  1. Dun dun dun... Here comes the miraculous Cards comeback in the 9th.
  2. Brad Lidge sits down, Dan Wheeler warms up in the pen. Wah?
  3. Hooray! Today has been a good day.
  4. Doesn't it make you long for the days when every Transactions thread turned into a thread about Carlos Beltran? :P
  5. Mr. Miles has often touted Atlanta bench coach Fredi Gonzalez as an excellent managerial candidate. Ned Yost has turned into a good manager in Milwaukee after spending time on Bobby Cox's staff; many analysts feel Terry Pendleton (Braves hitting instructor) has a rosy future as a manager, and he was going to be interviewed by the Dodgers until he pulled back yesterday for family reasons. I have no doubt Fredi could be a great one too - hanging out with Bobby Cox for several seasons must be an education and a half. If Baker and the Cubs don't agree to an extension during the Spring, I wouldn't be too surprised to see Gonzalez or Pendleton given an opportunity this time next year. I don't know enough about Terry as a coach, but Fredi would be awesome.
  6. Well, it was them last year, too. Although I guess they were never up 3-1, but they still came back to Busch up 3-2. Yeah, but they showed they had no chance of winning at Busch last year. It was inevitable that they were going to lose in 7 last year. Garner really screwed up having Clemens-Oswalt-Lidge available for Game 7 by having Clemens try to pitch through trouble in (I think) the 6th inning and failing.
  7. Knock off your ND griping. MSU could never, not with all the breaks in the book, play USC like ND did. MSU is below the Irish because their schedule has been a joke apart from ND and Ohio St. And yet MSU beat ND.
  8. Roy Oswalt (1-0, 1.29 ERA) vs. Mark Mulder (0-1, 1.29 ERA). Discuss.
  9. No, they should have Oswalt go today. He gives them their best chance to win, especially on regular rest. But I agree that if the Astros lose today, they're done.
  10. Third inning, Angel Guzman pitching: 1B Kendry Morales strikes out swinging. :) DH Travis Hanson flies out to CF on the first pitch. CF Charlton Jimerson reaches on an E-6*. LF Cody Haerther flies out to CF. Gooz: 3 IP, 2 ER, 2 H, 4 BB, 1 K, 69 pitches (39 strikes, 30 balls). * Gooz threw 8 of his 18 pitches in the 3rd inning after the error. Travis Foley relives Angel in the 4th, so that's his final line.
  11. On all but one of the walks, he had 2 strikes on the batter and couldn't finish any of them off.
  12. DH Matt Murton leads off the 2nd inning: Ball 1 outside. Foul ball, strike 1. Ground to second, 4-3.
  13. Second inning, Angel Guzman: CF Charlton Jimmerson bloop singles to LF. LF Cody Haerther walks on a full count. C Mat Tupman walks on a full count, bases loaded. SS Wade Robinson grounds out to first base, 3-unassisted. Jimmerson scores, 1 out. RF Michael Bourn reaches on a fielder's choice, 4-unassisted as Tupman is tagged out on his way to third base. Haerther holds at third. Two outs. 2B Howie Kendrick doubles, Haerther scores, Bourn to third. 2-0 Surprise. Coaching visit at the mound. 3B Corey Smith flies out softly to LF. Gooz: 2 IP, 2 ER, 2 H, 4 BB, 0 K, 51 pitches (28 strikes, 23 balls) :(
  14. First inning, Angel Guzman pitching: RF Michael Bourn walks (after falling behind 0-2). 2B Howie Kendrick grounds into a fielder's choice, 5-4. Kendrick safe at first. 3B Corey Smith batting. Kendrick steals second. Smith walks. Coaching visit to the mound. 1B Kendry Morales flies out to LF, 2 outs. DH Travis Hanson softly lined out to LF. Guzman: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 0 K, 18 pitches (9 balls, 9 strikes). Matt Murton is the only Cub in the starting lineup, he's batting 5th and DHing.
  15. TLR wins hands down.
  16. why is voluntarily leaving ones job spelled the same as signing a new contract to stay at ones job? It is so confusing. Voluntarily leaving is resigning. Signing a new contact is re-signing. My mom (journalist/editor) would be so proud of you.
  17. Last year was the near-record breaking one...I'm sure Lindgbergh was closer to 25" (EDIT: 22.49"). I live in Pasadena. LA Downtown got nearly 38" last year, UCLA was up near 50" and Pasadena was at 60". No rain in AZ today - Angel Guzman will pitch, but the game isn't on radio (3:05 CT). :(
  18. Yeah, it's pouring out there. Some of what we've been having the past few days. I thought it never rained in California and Arizona? It isn't real rain. It's more like a heavy mist. Being a born and bred midwesterner, I can tell people who are native Californians that they have never truly seen a "good" rain. I've lived in California for 10 years now, and I have seen lightning storms here 3 times. That's it. Well, we got 60" of rain last year...that's more than more than places like Seattle, Miami, Bangkok and Rio de Janiero got. And we've had 3 lightning storms in the past month. But yeah, California weather is pretty tame (but has been far more interesting the past few years).
  19. He won't sign with the Cubs for less than 4. Of course I'd prefer 3 to 4, but inking him is more important. As Tim has suggested, you could always trade him once you feel he's on the precipice of decline.
  20. I honestly see him as a Cardinal next year. I think Jocketty has accepted the benefits of statistical analysis in a way that we could only dream of as Cubs fans. Ugh.
  21. They should but I fear they won't even try. I think he ends up in Anaheim.
