  2. Crap. After you went 0 for 4 in the Elite 8, I don't want you on our bandwagon.
  3. Wow, great to hear Cherry is back healthy from TJS. I guess that means Piggy will be a starter.
  4. Pierre looks like a midget when he's on 2B with Young in the background on the mound.
  5. Heh, what did you expect? Dude's like 34' tall.
  6. marshall's control hasn't been that much better than hill's this spring. though he certainly has a history of better control. you're right though, if i had to pick a guy to jump all the way up, it would be him. good inning right there. Yeah, it hasn't been that much better and that is to be expected when he is skipping a level to the big leagues (it would be expected from a pitcher going from AAA to the big leagues). As you said, he has the history of better control + his limiting HRs will be keys to early big league success.
  7. Prior won it in 2004. Nice recovery inning by Sean.
  8. Something tells me the Cubs' scouting reports are written in crayon, based on the way Dusty approaches opposing hitters and pitchers... I'd be impressed if anyone besides Maddux (and maybe Prior) on this team put a lot of emphasis in scouting reports.
  9. Can you guys take a step back and calm down? EDIT: What Jon said.
  10. His spring #s still look better than Guzman, Hill or Ryu's. his AAA #'s don't. It's a definite gamble, but the Cubs really have no one else (besides Jerome, who should be the 4th starter - but I'd rather have Marshall get consistant outings as the 4 starter). my preferred course of action would be to leave williams as the #4, and send guzman, hill, and marshall to west tenn or dm and see who's pitching the best when the 15th rolls around. if a decision had to be made right now on the fifth starter, i would have went w/ hill, just b/c of the success he had last year compared to the lack of innings thrown by gooz and marshall. Don't have a problem with that, but Hill's control definitely needs to improve back to his 2005 minor league numbers. I would have preferred Marshall starting the season at AA, but of all the pitchers who could make the jump in the system with so few IP, I think Sean would be one of the best suited.

It's a definite gamble, but the Cubs really have no one else (besides Jerome, who should be the 4th starter - but I'd rather have Marshall get consistant outings as the 4 starter). Other pitchers with the stuff of Marshall have succeeded in skipping AAA with limited number of IP above the AA level.

  13. I read that too...GREAT... hey, how fast is Marshalls fastball? what are his pitches? I hoenstly know little about the kid Mostly throws a fastball 88-89, but can hit 92-93 if he needs to. Excellent curve. Throws a sweeper and a slow breaking curve. Change-up is a work in progress. From what I heard last season, the changeup is more than a work in progress.
  14. Not sure about these random qualifications, but Marshall went to college (unlike Willis). He has plus control, which is one of the reasons he'll be better suited for a quicker ascent to the big leagues than, say, a Rich Hill.
  15. yeah remember the last CF that was a "5 tool player" and that was "special?" Yeah I figued someone was going to say it in this thread, so it might have well been me  I'd do this trade right away especially if we can lock up Pierre long term. I don't see the point of using previous failures as a reason to say a current prospect will not succeed. i think there's plenty of reason to use previous failure. the cubs show little aptitude in developing position players to play in the major leagues. While that is true, each player is still different from the previous and might have a better ability to make up for deficiencies that other players could not.
  16. I'm a Cubs fan. I'll bring up that trade whenever I please. At least give me that.
  17. I didn't know that he was going back to West Tenn, but I did hear from Ron that Dopirak would be the everyday first baseman. And Sing should be the everyday first baseman in Iowa. I hope he isn't the everyday 1b. I know his defence would be rather weak, but his bat might carry him to the big leagues as a RF and he could work on his defence as he progresses there. At only 25 he's still got plenty of time to develop. Ooof, good point. He'll probably play his share of RF too.
