  1. Sorry, no such luck. The Astros have one more starter that has shown he is capable of being decent, Backe. If Pettite keeps pitching like this and Oswalt and Backe have to carry the load, and if they continue to average 1/2 a run a game, the Astros are in biiiiiig trouble. :D What's their rotation look like? Oswalt Pettitte Backe Magic Wandy Buchholz? Nieve? Buchholz is their #5 starter. Backe is hurt and has been pushed back (Wandy goes tomorrow for the Astros instead).
  2. Mitre's going to have a good season, imo. At the very least, there should be a rain delay down there. There'll might be one late in the Braves-Dodgers game too. http://image.weather.com/web/radar/us_lax_closeradar_medium_usen.jpg
  3. Iowa Hawkeyes @ Iowa Cubs - 7:05 pm CT Bradley Braves (of Sweet 16 fame!) @ Peoria Chiefs - 6:05 pm CT Iowa Cubs: RHP Angel Guzman (2005: 0-1, 2.45 ERA, 18.1 IP) Peoria: LHP Jesus Yepez (2005: 4-2, 3.92 ERA, 62 IP) with RHP Mitch Atkins (3-6, 5.03 ERA, 73.1 IP) piggybacking. West Tenn and Daytona play their exhibition games tomorrow. Sorry, Outshined.
  4. That certainly was quick. I figured they'd keep him at SS, move Stephen Drew to 2B and keep Chris Young at CF.
  5. Unlike others who have indicated they aren't turning pro, I actually believed Joakim Noah when he said it.
  6. Sounds like Raul Valdes and Les Walrond are in the rotation and Bobby Brownlie is in the pen. It also sounds like Rich Hill will be starting on Thursday.
  7. I have work all day and will miss the game (first opener I will miss since college days). But I'm gonna be busting tail during the day to see if I can get off a few hours early for the UCLA game.
  8. After what he did last year, I have to agree - no credibility.
  9. I'm rather impressed if Aardsma is back in the mid 90s this season. He did fall apart late last season, I have no problem with him returning to the minors.
  10. I would think one of the IFs or Howry would have seen it - the fans around home plate apparently did.
  11. Howry has to help on that play - at least yell where the ball is.
  12. Brandon McCarthy is pretty much the extent of it at the moment. They have guys with potential down in the system, but no one who can immediately step in and help in the rotation. Though before the deal is up, many of their arms should be ready.
  13. ERA is actually up to 3.68... For the Spring Season he closes out at 14.2 IP (not 15 as the mlb.com and WGN stats suggest), 10 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 8 BB, 11K, 3HR Allowed, 1.23 WHIP, 3.68 ERA. Not bad for a guy with very limited experience. MLB.com and WGN stats based that off Marshall having 10.1 IP going into this start - why the discrepancy with your stats over the .1 IP? I am not sure where they got that extra .1 IP, they were off on a lot of the hitters throughout the spring season as well but have caught up lately. Ok, just wondering. Thanks.

  15. I think I deserve an assist for that one, Len! 8)
  16. Boo! http://mlb.mlb.com/images/2005/10/12/u3Myyqfy.jpg
  17. Crap. After you went 0 for 4 in the Elite 8, I don't want you on our bandwagon.
  18. Wow, great to hear Cherry is back healthy from TJS. I guess that means Piggy will be a starter.
  19. Pierre looks like a midget when he's on 2B with Young in the background on the mound.
  20. Heh, what did you expect? Dude's like 34' tall.
  21. marshall's control hasn't been that much better than hill's this spring. though he certainly has a history of better control. you're right though, if i had to pick a guy to jump all the way up, it would be him. good inning right there. Yeah, it hasn't been that much better and that is to be expected when he is skipping a level to the big leagues (it would be expected from a pitcher going from AAA to the big leagues). As you said, he has the history of better control + his limiting HRs will be keys to early big league success.
