  1. I like Cubbie blue over Navy. I wouldn't mind an update to the aways though. Would they go Navy on new aways, but keep the current blue on homes? That'd be weird. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Yeah, but he's a borderline player as it is. If you're Jake Long, it's just weed. If you're J'Marcus Webb, it's a potential career threatening offence. He's more established than JT Thomas who saw a career upgrade the offseason following a drug offense. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Isn't the time zone thing more about tv start times and thus ratings/revenue rather than player travel issues? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Someone like Welker is entirely a question of distributing assets. We'll get way more getting a WR to provide half the production at a fraction if the cost and putting that money elsewhere. Eddie Royal looked great with Marshall opposite and Cutler throwing the ball. With Alshon's potential added, we don't need to aim too high in WR to get a high marginal value. 5. Do they have a good RT? If not they could always draft Joekel and put one at RT. But them letting Albert go has always been a decent possibility. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. The Bears need at least two OL and it really doesn't matter where. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. DJ Fluker might actually be BPA when we pick so that'd be pretty ideal. And I think people need to stop trying to think of ways to get us extra picks. No players we can part with will get us significant picks and the likelyhood of the top players at 20 also filling a position of moderate need are pretty good where the idea of trading down in the name of depth will probably be silly. 8. Also Lane Johnson was just .01 behind him. I know it shouldn't matter for an OL prospect, but I wonder if it solidifies him as a top 15 pick. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Had to look him up. But screw OL. With that size and speed turn that man a 3-Tech DT. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I don't know. Last year was pretty exciting. Got a W and played a good game against a high profile team and #1seed in MSU. Sweet 16 this year would be... Sweet I guess. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Why are we using the hypothetical 210m as the buyout number? Isn't the value of the buyout for CSN the amount they can charge in additional ad revenue minus the 210? In the current landscape a Cubs game is worth 2M and they're currently paying about say 100k per game (or whatever the figures are) I think the buyout the network would want is closer to the 2m per game figure than the 100k. Maybe figure out what non-live sports programming is worth in ad revenue and factor that difference, but from the sounds of it, thats meaningless. What motivation do they have to give up the games at the old rate when they're set to make many times that in ad revenue by riding out the contract. That is of course assuming thebuyout isn't pre-negotiated in the deal. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. SLU is awesome you fools, jump on. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Me neither, but given the insane numbers we've seen tossed out for the Dodgers and Rangers part of me thinks that whatever it would be would be really, really worth it. But wouldn't CSN know that too, and therefore ask for the moon? I really have little understanding of how this all works. And since they own 25% of it, how does that work? Is this basically just Reinsdorf's call (since, I'm guessing, he owns 50% or so of it)? I thought each team has 20, so 40 for Reinsdorf (with Comcast having the final 20 although that article says they have about 30 so not sure.) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Do we know if the Trib was making or losing cash in the last few years? I could imagine they were okay taking cash losses in anticipation of selling the team for a huge amount in the short term. They're value was the net worth of the team, because they could count on realizing that increased value with a sale, and thus recouping that cash loss. But as new owners with a lot of debt, cash flow is a bigger concern, and an impediment to having a high payroll. Combine that with reallocating resouces, and possibly them holding back payroll for future periods, and the comments I think can all come together without thinking Ricketts is just taking it off the top for the ownership. 15. I've only sat in the 300 level once for the Hawks gane, but can't really imagine there being that many bad seats. I would just go with the obvious signs like closer to front and closer to center ice. Part of the thrill of the hawks is just the stadium atmosphere. Its hard to follow a puck from the 300 level. Just a casual hockey fan's one game opinion though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Better odds of making the playoffs than: Royals (12.1%) Padres (9.5%) Orioles (4.8%) Rockies (4.8%) Marlins (1.7%) Twins (1.5%) Astros (0.4%) Seems pretty fair. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I think his relative importance for these things comes down to who he replaces. In this instance you're essentially saying he replaces a Hairston-Schierholtz platoon, pushing DeJesus over to RF. so it is a pretty big defensive and base stealing upgrade. If for some reason we had Campana as our starting CF, the base stealing is less important, although the relative defensive and hitting upgrade obviously is more. So its kind if evaluating finite resources and a guys value in an area team wide is only as valuable as the alernate he is relacing. Base stealing, hitting, defense, whatever all have a set absolute value, but theres still 27 outs and 8 positions. That being said, thats also a short term view of things, when you sign a guy to 3+ years you can't really anticipate what the relative value of one his traits will be 3 years away, so the absolute is a bigger concern. 18. I don't recall seeing them closely at the press conference, but the older one looks way too much like Marc. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I think unless something in camp changes, you are correct with replacing the left side, moving Webb to RT and Carimi to RG. Even if Carimi was drafted high, he really hasn't shown much as a RT in two years in terms of pass protection. Maybe moving to RG will reduce the injury risk too. While I wouldn't plug a guy just due to draft position, I thought Carimi looked pretty good in his brief stint his rookie year. If theres a chance that last years struggles can be fixed with a full healthy offseason, I'd want to see how he looks as a tackle before writing him off as guard. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. The good news about upgrading LT is it can push Webb or Carimi (if he rebounds) to RT and RG, allowing the Bears to improve 3 positions in one move. And thats fine if a LT is sitting there and is the best OL but a stud LG could be just as helpful, although maybe that depends on the evaluation of Carimi. Hopefully he still has a future at RT and any guard move would be predicated on being pushed there by better players. If you're already set on making him guard, I guess tackle becomes a little more important. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Other than better facilities and coaching -> better recruiting -> chance to lose a game and still get to national championship. Maybe I'm completely off-base, but I have to think the facilities at a place like Michigan are pretty similar to any SEC school not named Alabama. Meyer can whine all he wants, but it's pretty simple. SEC schools are located where most of the top talent is, and most of the kids in that football-crazy region grow up thinking Florida/Alabama/Georgia/Auburn is the ultimate prize. The same way every kid in Ohio grows up idolizing OSU players (and continues to idolize them as adults). It's always going to be difficult to persuade kids to go somewhere else where there's no regional tie. It certainly seems like midwest isn't keeping their guys if thats the theory you want to go with though. Other than maybe Ohio State because Ohioans are obnoxious human beings. 22. The line functions primarily as a unit. While a true franchise LT can make a difference (Ogden, Pace) its still really important to be solid 1-5. When looking 1-5 our weakest points were LG, C, and RT. It also happens those spots are going to be a lot easier to fill than LT. And we have to also add RG to the list due to injury. Yea if the right LT is at 20 (or close and you trade up), or the FA$ add up, I'd love a LT, but if you do the other spots right you can live with an average left tackle. Jay isn't a statue who is particularly vulnerable to the blond side. I'm much more worried about fixing weak links, and sadly through a combination of performance and injury, Webb is #5 on that list. Whether through FA or draft, I want the best linemen, regardless of position. And I need 3-4, but will settle for 2-3 so efficiency is still a consideration, particularly when talking about FA money and what the designation of LT can do to one's price tag. 23. I'll be either concerned or pissed if Rose doesn't return this year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. I'm actually okay with Webb. I think our best chance at improving the OLine is going to be in the interior. If we shore up the inside we can live with Webb if his production stays average (and maybe he'll even improve). I think the biggest question is with Carimi. If you were to make a move to bring in a T, you are fastracking him to G or being cut. So you kind of have to make that call. Note sure there will be any first round tackles worthy of pick 20 though if there is it'd almost certainly be a RT and not LT. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. I don't think that is true at all. They aren't defending the bunts, they try and hit them into marked off areas. The annoying thing is reading guys like Sullivan whine about how few sac bunts the team had in the regular season. I looked and all i found was a reference by Wood about getting in work "covering first and things like that", so I think defense is a component. I guess Dale didn't outwardly say that, but we do know he emphasized defense in general, and combined that with his record of bunt usage, we can infer the purpose of the tourney is at least equally about defense, even if its partially mental reps.
