    yes, that's about 100 per year, which isn't a small amount. How many LHP do you think there are in every rotation, three or four? Your argument that Jones could learn how to hit lefties is idiotic. He pretty much acknowledged that there's probably something to the argument that Jones just can't hit lefties in his post. He makes a very good point with regard to Pie.

    not with this offense and bullpen, we shouldn't. The Cubs really aren't as good on paper as you think they are. 35-29 Pythag W-L Maybe they shouldn't be quite that good. And they definitely shouldn't be 10-15 games over, but they've really had a lot of bad luck (or sucky relief pitching, however you want to look at it) in close games. I know I'm just repeating what's been said many times over on here, but, while they've played nothing like world beaters, they've definitely played significantly better than their record would indicate.

    Anyone remember when Frank Castillo blew one in the 9th (possibly with 2 outs) at Wrigley against the Cards? 1995, IIRC. It was either Bernard Gilkey or Ray Lankford that broke it up with a triple. Think it was Gilkey, but I was 12 so who knows?

    Izturis sucks because he sucks. Not because of what he's done this year (which has turned out pretty well). We have a whole career's worth of PA's to tell us that he sucks. Still, the real reason we suck has little to do with him and a lot to do with some of the other problems that have already been mentioned here.

    Bulls were mentioned on ESPN as a likely destination for Kobe if he is moved now that he has semi-demanded a trade. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2884339 If we could somehow do it without giving up Deng (and, I guess, Hinrich) I'd be all for it. I know lots of people dislike Kobe, but Kobe >>>>> BG. It's pretty much that simple. If we had to give up too much of the core, though, we'd just be an Eastern Conference version on the Lakers.

    Did Z actually look good today and miss some bats, or was he just getting lucky?

    Although the outcome sucked, the idea wasn't bad. Making the 2nd out at 3rd base is acceptable. There is a BIG difference in having a runner on 3rd with 1 out and having a runner on 2nd with 1 out. Lee was just trying to push another run across. The bullpen sucks. The idea is always bad. Players should almost never try to steal 3rd, period. Hell, I'd rarely have players try to steal at all, but that's a can of worms that can wait till the offseason to be opened.

    People usually have to think a player is somewhere in the realm of 'good' in order for that player to be considered overrated.
