Yep. And in 2004, wild card was the only route, despite how insanely talented our team was. Cards were absurd that year.

I've never really been of the opinion that a team's record (or composition) should have anything to do with MVP voting. It's an individual award for a game that is very much an individual sport, particularly on offense. Prince Fielder would be just as good on the Cubs or Red Sox or any other team. It's not his fault if his team winds up (hypothetical, obviously) missing the playoffs, nor is it his fault that his lineup is a little more balanced. McGwire should've won it in 98, but I'm not complaining that Sammy took it.

This morning on ESPN 1000, Silvy said that Wood has lost something like 48 pounds??? I wonder if that could have anything to do with his heart condition and needing to carry less weight to make it easier on his body? That's just a complete guess though. One of the articles linked in this thread says hes lost 48 lbs. What heart condition are you talking about? He has that "hole in the heart" condition. It was diagnosed, I believe, around the time he tore is UCL and had Tommy John in 99.

You guys didn't realize he was pitching with a tear because he had opted to rehab and strengthen the surrounding muscles over having surgery to repair it? Seriously? This isn't news. It's basically exactly what we heard was happening last summer/fall. Now, the whole 'miracle' and 45 mph thing, that's a different story.
