  1. Well, he did go 2-3 with a homer yesterday. In other words, it already struck. And you know what they say about lightning.
  2. I'm gonna look like an idiot for asking but... ...makeup game with Houston? EDIT - Nevermind. Totally forgot about that first series and the snow.
  3. Being a Machine Operator for 30k a year is a job. Being a professsional baseball player....and being paid millions of dollars to do so....is a GIFT! Don't delude yourself. If he "only" makes 5 million.....its enough to last a lifetime....and its not something to "worry" about. He's going to make a whole lot more than that....regardless of his performance. I dont begrudge his ability to do so...more power to him.....but to try to insinuate that he's not performing well because of the stress of not knowing how big his pile of money will be is ridiculous. This is frequently brought up by fans....and it's always ridiculous. No, your ability to put things in other perspectives is what's ridiculous.
  4. Being a Machine Operator for 30k a year is a job. Being a professsional baseball player....and being paid millions of dollars to do so....is a GIFT! Don't delude yourself. It's all relative. To a large percentage of the world's population, making 30k US is an outrageously luxurious salary. Try going to India or China some time and complaining that you're trying to make ends meet at $30k US a year. You know, there was time not so long ago when even upper middle class American families only owned ONE television set, ONE family car and siblings actually had to share bedrooms? Before things were massed produced and made cheap , worrying about putting "food on the table" wasn't just a figure of speech. People actually worried about putting food on the table. They couldn't just drive up to the McDonald's Value Menu and order 4,000 calories with the change they find between their seat cushions. So given how good the average American family has it to the rest of the world, and even previous generations of Americans, I guess they can no longer stress or worry about money? If you don't think money isn't a major influence on almost everyone's lives, you have an amazing lack of knowledge about the human condition. Great post.
  5. Why would goony get banned, anyway?
  6. That line graph had to jump up a little bit.
  7. Izturis, how sad is it that the at bat vs Farnsworth (03, I think) is probably the offensive highlight of his career? I could be wrong, but I think you're thinking of Alex Cora. And I think it was against Clement in 04. But again, I could be completely wrong. My memory on that one is foggy. What keeps coming to mind with Farnsworth was the low and away slider (3-2?) that Julio Franco crushed to right center after a bunch of fouls.
  8. http://retrosheet.org/boxesetc/1994/B05220CHN1994.htm My first Cubs game. All I remembered was that they announced that the Bulls had lost Game 7 to the Knicks, and that Derrick May hit a HR to win it in extras. I had no idea what was going on. I didn't care much about sports until I was 12 or 13.
  9. huh? That comes from some asinine quote by Paul Sullivan: Sullivan pointlessly threw in Pie's numbers with 2 strikes as a reason why he shouldn't be playing. Wow. WTH? That's about the dumbest use of statistics I've ever seen. I can't believe even he would do that. Again, WTH? I'm at a loss for words.
  10. agreed on the offense. Derrek Lee leads the NL in average but is tied for 10th in RBI. That's the season in a nutshell That's as much a problem with Lee's SLG than anything else. He ranks 11th in SLG, and that's completely propper up by an unsustainable AVG. He went 20 games without a HR, and has only 1 more in the 10 games since. Lots and lots of doubles, though.
  11. I was at that one.
  12. You can't be serious...
  13. LMAO at the last 3 or 4 posts.

    aaa iowa

i dont know. maybe because the cubs only have 1 left handed starter in jones or pie when murton plays (which he should be doing every day imo). So? They need more hitters, not necessarily LH. There is no great need for LH hitters. If anything they need a RH bat that can platoon with Jones. This
  15. I can vouch. Did you grab him by the tie? If I was there, I would've. That's how money that look is.
  16. A- Corey isnt worth that much. His lifetime OBP is lower than Neifi Perez's now. The guy is just a bum. B- We thankfully dont need more OFs. C- I would become a Cardinal fan. (ok, i wouldnt...but i would be very very angry.) On a happy note, Jon Leicester was one of the guys brought up to replace some of the Orioles DL cats. Nice to see him reappear after some serious type surgery. Hopefully he will do well. Corey is no Alex Sanchez, after all. Don't forget that the bum doesn't care!
  17. Wouldn't be surprised? That's the lineup I'm expecting. At least the crap is usually reserved for the bottom spots now instead of the top two.

    aaa iowa

Why, exactly, are we in such dire need of left handed bats in the lineup?
  19. Considering it was probably one of the best ever (especially his second half), I wasn't remotely surprised.
