    Sickels' post-Garza trade 2011 Cubs prospect list included Trey McNutt, Chris Carpenter, and Jaye Chapman in the top 5. wtf i don't even remember this guy i think he's got the wrong guy. chapman came in the maholm trade that brought us vizcaino ah, Jay Jackson I'm guessing?

    Well for one thing, having a gaudy list of hitting prospects is great, but not all of them are going to turn into good major league players. And among the ones that do, most aren't going to be real plus players for at least a year or two, maybe more. I don't think it's a good idea to pin all your hopes on these guys panning out, not to mention giving them no veteran protection. Stockpiling is smart - it gives you options when the can't-miss prospects miss. But some of them will miss. This. I kind of want to make sure we hit on enough prospects out of the Bryant-Russell-Baez-Shwarber-Alcantara-Soler-McKinney-Almora group before we start shipping any of them or Castro out. I don't know, maybe that's a tad conservative, but I'd hate to stockpile all this talent just to guess wrong on which of them are actually going to pan out. I'd like to let these guys develop for at least another year (i.e. next trade deadline) before we start spinning them off.

    In his analysis, Law said that McKinney is a "pure left fielder," but he has played 105 games in CF, 7 in RF, and 1 in LF.

    He turned down a 5-year $44mm offer from the Pacers. I don't think I would want the Bulls to beat that. Although I'm sure some other team will.

    Is there media at these things? Cause otherwise, "Bulls FO member thinks their pitch went really well" doesn't really mean much. Oh, of course it's completely meaningless. I'm not sure any of the players or front office personnel that were reportedly at the dinner would have been texting Alex Kennedy status updates between courses or whatever. I just get a kick out of all this stuff. At any rate, KC Johnson has contradicted this Kennedy dude multiple times today, so all this stuff is basically worthless. Kennedy tweeted that Rose went through a full workout in front of Melo to convince him that he was healthy. Johnson said that it was a scheduled rehab session well before Carmelo arrived. Kennedy also said that Rose was in attendance for the dinner, while Johnson said that he only joined the United Center portion of the meeting. Free agency is fun.

    LeBron has acted like an idiot in the past, but I've rooted for far bigger idiots with far less talent. If the Bulls had an opportunity to sign him, I wouldn't even think twice about it.

    Oh man. I'm going to try my best to take all of the rumors with a grain of salt until the dust settles, but damn it, those few days in 2010 where we thought we had a chance of landing both James and Wade were fun as hell.

    When he hits the ball, he tends to hit it really hard. Contact is the problem. Combination of being too passive early in the count and too aggressive deep in the count, and bad pitch recognition (IMO). It doesn't look promising. That's not even true. He has an anemic LD%. If you got bonus points for far HRs he might have value as a 25th guy Wow. Wasn't he the prize in the Garza trade ? Nah, CJ Edwards was. Olt was pretty much a throw in.

    It's encouraging that the consensus here still pretty much ranks Javy as the #2 prospect. Honest question, though: is there something about his development path that makes his 26% career K rate less concerning than Olt's 26% minor league K rate or Jackson's 28% minor league K rate? Is it just because he's younger than those two were when they reached AAA that we shouldn't be as alarmed about his strikeout levels? I'm not writing Baez off by any means, but it feels like in past years, people have essentially given up on prospects because of K rates in a similar range as his.

    I don't know. Javy's K is just such a constant concern that I'm terrified he's going to flame out. I'm almost definitely overreacting, but I'm ready for one of his trademark extended stretches of dominance. I know he went on a tear toward the end of May, but he's hitting .208 with 19 Ks in 59 PAs in June. I know he's really young for AAA and he's historically a slow starter when he is promoted a level, but I can't help but have Mike Olt/Brett Jackson PTSD. I'm more than willing to be talked off the ledge on him. Someone convince me that he's going to be Mike Stanton at SS, because that's so much more fun. Alcantara and Schwarber are only that high for me due to my Javy fears and Soler's inability to stay on the field.

    It hurts to drop Javy that far, but I pretty much agree with this. I actually might put Almora a few slots lower than that, though.

    Makes sense. Basically, assuming they can sign all 7 of those picks, they did a good job piling up talent without having to punt any picks in the top 7 rounds.
