  1. Because he stinks Oh, okay. Is a 1.09 FIP bad now? I’m also confused by this. 12 Ks / 0 BBs/ 0 HR, 58% GB rate. His past body of work indicates he is not this good, but he’s been just fine for the Cubs so far.
  2. I mean yeah he needs to be better and he certainly was a horsefeathering idiot at times to put himself in bad spots but I saw some encouraging things and he seemed to be better with not being ridiculously wild. The 3 run inning was a lot of stupid horsefeathers and sequencing that easily could’ve been 0 runs. But yeah he needs to be better no doubt but there were some positive things to take away You keep saying this about the 2nd, but there was just the one pop up where three guys played it tentative to not collide with each other. Unfortunate, but that horsefeathers happens. Everything else was line drives, a BB, and a double that was smoked. He also struck out the pitcher, who he usually walks, so good job there I guess? By the way, I do agree he looked better today and had that nice little string where he looked really sharp. I’m just not excusing him for that 2nd inning.
  3. I don’t know. Sure he looked fine in the middle innings and was more aggressive but you can’t ignore the horsefeathers things he did to allow 7 runs to score. Plenty of horsefeathers pitchers can look good for a couple of innings in a start I mean yeah he needs to be better and he certainly was a horsefeathering idiot at times to put himself in bad spots but I saw some encouraging things and he seemed to be better with not being ridiculously wild. 4. maybe it's my imagination, but i feel like this happens whenever he gets a chance in the rotation. he starts off with a few strong outings and then after a few starts he falls apart a bit.
  5. i mean, Maddux gave up 35 hrs that one year when he was like 40
  6. Haha yeah once we start playing shitty teams we’ll most definitely right the ship and set sail for 100 wins.
  7. Montgomery could easily start Sunday if necessary, though that’d create an issue for Monday if Chatwood is out. wouldn't Lester be on regular rest on Monday?
  8. the ron coomer funkaway commercial is basically the charlie day kitten mittens commercial
  9. He’s gone 5.1 or less all but 3 of his 13 starts. He fucks the bullpen ever time he pitches. Monty is pitching really well and the other pen lefties are doing well enough that you don’t need him there (sup Randy). Make up a career ending injury for Chatwood like they apparently did for Butler and let’s never speak of him again.
  10. couple favorites from last night's game thread over on the brewers board:
  11. That’s what I was thinking too. yeah, not really a criticism. i don't expect a casual fan to have heard of it. but for a writer at a site that obsessively parses everything even tangentially related to Theo Epstein, it's pretty surprising.
  12. i know there's still a likely lengthy minor league rehab stint to come, but i thought smyly's target return date was late august. if he's already throwing bp, can we expect him earlier than that? it'd be nice to add him to the list of potential chatwood replacements sometime soon.
  13. ooooh so glad i am going to a family party tonight so i get to listen to my uncles complain about "maddon the genius's" horrible lineups.
