  1. Carlton had some good seasons with losing records but not Cy Young. DeGrom and Felix are the closest examples of starters that I can find but they were each a game over .500.
  2. Tauchman has never played 1B in the majors. Maybe he could, but fair that Peanut didn’t pick up what you were putting down.
  3. We shouldn’t talk about baseball announcers on a baseball site?
  4. Easy. Mike Trout, Tim Salmon, Gary Matthews Jr., Kole Calhoun, Dallas McPherson.
  5. It wasn’t too long ago that the offense was picking up the slack for the bullpen. This is how things tend to work over the course of the season. For some stretches the offense picks up the slack for the pitching and sometimes it’s the other way around. At the end of the season, if they’re 3rd in offensive fWar, 11th in bullpen fWar, 10th in fielding fWar, and are able to improve upon their current position of 18th in SP fWar by virtue of Shota returning and/or a trade or two, they’ll be just fine.
  6. Every year this team hits a rough patch for the first time and half this board acts like they’ve never experienced the ebbs and flows of a 162-game season before. Anyway, over their last one games, Kyle Tucker and Ian Happ are each on pace for 162 RBIs.
  7. So the insinuation by both you and GH8888 that this team hasn’t been the same since Carson Kelly cooled down was meant to make what point?
  8. What’s with the idea that the Cubs haven’t been scoring since late April? Since April 23 seems to be the arbitrary endpoint of choice: from 4/25 through the end of the Washington series l, they averaged 5.4 runs per game (an 867 run full season pace). They’ve been cold for 4 games, which is frustrating, yes. But take a deep breath, folks. Also lol at the guy melting down about not having a closer after the bullpen is less than perfect for the first time in nearly a month.
  9. He’s had back to back 0-fers. The prior 8 games of that 10 game span Derwood looked at his slash was .348/.516/.478 with 1 strikeout and 6 walks. We’re talking about a two game “slump.”
  10. Meh. Just because it’s kinda fun that Seiya and PCA are jockeying for position in the RBI lead doesn’t mean we have to suddenly ascribe importance to RBIs as a stat.
  11. Not arguing the spirit of this post. He’s in a bit of a power drought. But I love that his “slumps” still have him slashing .267/.436/.367 with a 10% K rate.
  12. I just saw the replay on BN. Yeah, very unfair to call that a base running gaffe by PCA.
  13. I wasn’t watching at the time and haven’t seen a repla, but Coomer fully pinned it on Barry. Said he was sending PCA and then changed his mind, leaving Pete in no man’s land. Accurate?
  14. Silo and Severance are great. Would also add Slow Horses and Shrinking to these recs.
  15. During the postgame last night they said he is starting.
  16. Well, you got me there. Perhaps part of the equation is hitting as many fan bases each month to increase subscription volume. I think when I looked earlier this year it seemed like the cubs had a game each month on Apple, potentially increasing month over month retention.
  17. Both teams were expected to be playoff contenders and were favorites in their divisions before the season. This matchup was selected for the Apple TV broadcast because of that, not in spite of it.
  18. To each their own of course, but I find Apple infinitely more useful (and cheaper) than ESPN. As someone who really only cares about the Cubs, Bears, and Illini these days, I can probably count on two hands the number of times I turn on ESPN in a given year.
  19. I’m mindful of overextending the bullpen as the season wears on but the two opener games so far haven’t done that. 6 IP for Brown and 5.1 for Rea in those games.
  20. Rassmussen Is interesting, but wouldn’t he come with similar innings management considerations as Brown, Horton, and Boyd?
  21. I’m not going to tell anyone how to spend their money or what streamers to subscribe to. Managing all the different services is a pain in the ass. But…why shouldn’t they make a matchup between the two best teams in baseball available nationally? Plus the Apple picture quality for their telecasts is gorgeous. I’m excited.
  22. Anyone have restaurant recommendations in Detroit? My wife and I are heading up for the game on Sunday. We figure we’ll grab an early dinner somewhere before we head back home. Never spent any time there, so going in blind.
