  1. yeah, they were saying that if the cubs were honest they probably would say they wouldn't want to play the cards. i'd be happy to play them. their rotation isn't very strong and their defense is abysmal. I want to face them so bad. If we lose, I don't give a damn who it is to, its gonna suck really bad either way. The Cards are clearly the worst team of the 3 possibilities and they are far worse than us. The only pitcher they have that scares me is a mental midget that they'll have to burn in the WC game. Its as close to a bye week as you can get in the MLB playoffs. Cards, Mets, Giants would be my order of preference. Giants are the only team that would scare me.
  2. Pretty dickishly worded regardless of if you saw this thread or not imo
  3. If the Pirates win their next two, our record against teams above .500 will go way up, and that will help us in the playoffs. Go Pirates!
  4. If the choices are Giants, Cards, Dodgers or Mets...my choice would be the Cards because they're the worst team on that list by a pretty comfortable margin. It'll be fun to watch them kick the ball all over the field in a playoff game.
  5. Maybe everybody thinks we don't want to see the Cards in the playoffs because they assume we would prefer a challenge.
  6. CB Bucknor. I get irrationally pissed just seeing him.
  7. This is the one starter we'd want at the plate if we wanted him to make an out quickly. I bet he gets a hit because baseball. edit: Or draws a walk after a long at bat
  8. lol Gyorko just got owned by hustle. Javy is so awesome.
  9. This is awful. I didn't post much for the first 10 years or so that I frequented this site, but I read every day and Fred with his random stats was a big reason why. Condolences to the family :[
  10. Apparently Soler can run. I mean, pretty slowly and not without pulling something. But, yeah...he can run.
  11. still the right call we'll never know, but so far, that move has netted them zero playoff series wins I thought it was dumb to shut him down completely like they did, as opposed to moving him to the bullpen a month before the shutdown to limit his innings (and then having him in the bullpen for the playoffs) or limiting his innings earlier in the season so that he would be available in October. Or simply skipping some starts in June/July/August. Limiting his workload was the right call, just seems they could have planned it better. Completely shutting down your best pitcher going into the playoffs in hopes that he might be available if you happen to make the playoffs again in the future seems like a move that's very rarely ever going to pan out in your favor.
  12. I really wish I could hear the full explanation of what in the heck is going on in Tommy's mind. Kinda sounds like he doesn't really want to play baseball anymore, which is....very weird. He's really is a good hitter. He'd be a starter on a lot of teams. he stands to make millions, and he hasn't really made enough money to be set for life yet. Very weird situation. I can't help but laugh at the thought of Tommy reading this thread, or really any thread in which his name pops up, and seeing all of the seal jokes. Also, contrary to what the other dude said, the seal joke has not lost any of its funniness at all.
  13. I always worry about that when a pitcher gets to 36+ pitches in an inning. I worry about Hammel after his disaster inning yesterday. Wish we had a team policy that youre done after 35 in one inning. Who was it that we made throw 40 in one inning the other day? Itll be interesting to see if he starts to have arm problems.
  14. I have a weird combination of emotions that include being sad for Stanton, disappointment that i dont get to see him hit any more moon shots this year, and also really happy to see bad things happen to that organization.
  15. Soler/Happ/Montgomery/Montero+Cash for Lucroy and Will Smith.
  16. Lack of an extension really killed my excitement for this deal. Can't believe that two months of Chapman costs Torres, McKinney, Warren, and some dude I've never heard of. There's some extra value in that making this deal prevents the Cards, Nats, Giants, Dodgers, etc. from getting him. And I'm really going to enjoy having him in the playoffs. This is a big overpay, though, and I can't imagine that any other team was offering anything close to this. I guess if you're going to overpay, its best to overpay for an elite performer at a position of need, so at least there's that. I hope this douche doesn't beat any women while he's here.
  17. OK now If its Torres + Soler I want Chapman+ extension, Miller and Betances and we'll just have the best bullpen ever.
  18. I don't like "multiple" Me either. When I heard Torres+ I was thinking maybe they'd take Clayton Richard off our roster for us, or one A-ball guy nowhere near our top 30. Multiple is sounding scary. We are getting an elite reliever for 4 years on a reasonable contract, though. And somebody who I would feel comfortable giving the ball to against any batter with the World Series on the line. Still though, if the + is multiple significant prospects, I would hope that we are also getting another of their relievers.

  20. Don't care about his past, don't know the full story of what happened, don't care. Starlin was an accused rapist, and Lackey is Lackey. 4 years of Chapman and Torres is the headliner? Please get it done. I will occasionally complain about how much of a dbag he is, but that'll just be to pass the time until the playoffs. PS Theo/Hoyer are the bestest
  21. I don't think that is fact. "The cool thing about facts is that they remain true regardless of if you believe them" - Some guy, I dunno
  22. Only example i can remember of this is Moises Alou hitting a line drive off the middle of the left field wall at MMP when he was with the Astros. Ball bounced straight up and over the wall for a home run. Didnt hit a fielder, but since we know that if a ball hits a fielder and bounces over that its a home run, id say that the ump got it right.
  23. I really hate crap like that. This ASG = Home Field Advantage [expletive] has to end. At least the Cubs are good enough now for me to get pissed off over it, so that's a good thing.
