  1. Not a huge fan of that idea, but if you did do it the return for Marshall needs to be a more long-term piece than Griffey.
  2. Why Pagan? I really think he has proven himself as a valuable part-time / spot-start player. I hate to say it, as a big fan of Murton's, but he has contributed more than Matt has... Over the last month Pagan is 13/54, .241/.268/.389/.657. He's not very valuable.
  3. There would be more scrutiny in this case, but couldn't the phantom injury come before the playoff rosters were set so they could get on?
  4. I think the Cubs could use a long man in that pen. Someone like Zach Grienke would fit that role. They're already stunting Gallagher's development to do that. Having a guy to bridge the gap to the back end of the pen when starter's get rocked isn't all that high on the priority queue anyway. With Dempster, Howry, Marmol, Wuertz, and maybe Wood later in the back end of the pen, it's a good job for Petrick.
  5. His LD% has dropped off a bit, but he's not hitting any more infield pop-ups than before, and his BABIP is really unlucky even with the lower LD%.
  6. Not yet, though we don't know for sure. It's looking like he will be. How 'bout the 40-man situation, that needs to be changed too. Not really. Bowen's spot goes to Kendall, Soto has options so he'll just get demoted to Iowa.
  7. Any possibility that Wood could become a starter again this season or are they just trying to get him by with 1 inning every other day? No. They signed him as a reliever, and he's rehabbing as a reliever.
  8. I don't think I've ever seen Pedro Gomez doing anything else except reporting on Barry Bonds.
  9. Mitre is 26, it's not a surprise for him to be outperforming his previous MLB performance/peripherals, especially since he's getting an extended stay in a rotation for the first time ever. Mitre was a low BB guy and a very low HR guy in his minor league career, these peripherals aren't completely out of left field. Even with some regression he's a serviceable starter under team control for cheap. That's why it still makes the Pierre trade look awful.
  10. I don't understand the Pierre/Mitre VORPs. If you look at what 2007 Mitre has done relative to 2006 Pierre then it shouldn't even be close VORP is a counting stat, and the 2007 season is barely half over.
  11. No manager is perfect. Lou has made some good moves lately, but he still has his faults. Bunting with DeRo last night, to get to a guy hitting .220? Stupid I agree. However, people ignore the good moves he makes, and then just focus on one or two bad ones and then decide he sucks. I see this happening literally all the time, with every manager. It's overkill, and ridiculous. Being a manager isn't really a skilled position, it's mostly making decisions. Aside from those that are truly out of the ordinary(like the pitchout last night that has received plenty of praise), managers don't get credit for "good moves" because that's what's supposed to happen. Lou doesn't get kudos for not moving Zambrano to the bullpen, and in the same way he doesn't get kudos for actually bringing in a reliever in at the correct time.
  12. What does everyone think the Robinson promotion implies about the MLB catching situation? Is Soto staying with the big club?
  13. I bet he doesn't congratulate his non-Aryan teammates, what a tool.
  14. I made the cut! But seriously, someone tell Braun he shouldn't be leading MLB in OPS.
  15. I may be the only person in the world who can't stand Vin Scully.
  16. This is the difference/problem. I can't think of any other park that has a portion of seating that attracts/caters to that type of fan. I like the proposed idea for fining people heavily who are caught throwing stuff. It really needs to stop, especially since it only takes one or a couple people for it to snowball out there.
  17. I don't know, but I'm angry enough at him overperforming that I'm going to believe it whether it's true or not.
  18. I feel bad that nobody knows cheapseats well enough to know whether he's kidding or not, he's a good enough poster that people should realize he's gone all opposite day in this thread.
  19. Yeah, because trading a crappy catcher and a minor league relief pitcher for a guy who has been solid in 11 out of his 12 MLB years is always a bad idea. what is your definition of "solid"? He's been a below average hitter in 5 of his last 7 seasons, including an awful year this year. By all accounts he's not very good defensively. Based on what, the almighty OPS+? If you look at his average and his OBP, he hasn't been anywhere near below average. He's not a power hitter... most baseball players aren't. yeah, OPS+ sucks...batting average is clearly where it's at. If you want to look at one stat to determine how good a player is, go for it. OPS+ says that Jason Kendall has been barely, just barely, above average during his career. If you really believe that... well, I don't know what to tell you. Thing is, you have to consider the fact that kendall is at a position chock full of guys way below league average. That is not factored into OPS+. No dude, OPS+ is all that matters. Nothing else is important. NOTHING. Kendall was 2nd to last among qualified catchers in OPS last year, and was last in 2005.
  20. Has it been 10 days yet? It's time for Pie to come back.
  21. Bowen. One of Soto or Hill will probably get demoted/DFA'ed for Kendall.
