  1. You bolded the wrong part.
  2. I like this for a number of reasons. Johnson can hit against LHP, and didn't have too much of a split aside from last year when he was hurt. He's RH and doesn't have the reputation that might allow him to get more AB's at Pie's expense(like DaVanon or maybe Byrd would), and he's got a strong arm(Wrigley's short alleys and our strong defensive corner OF's can help shield him in CF).
  3. Bruce is never going to see the light of day with Patterson, Hopper, and Freel around. I know it's a keeper, but I don't trust Dusty not to sabotage his career.
  4. Looks pretty good this spring... http://espn-i.starwave.com/media/apphoto/d9e93876-dd98-4268-991b-b4c872056576.jpg
  5. Someone tell me Lieber lost velocity or something, because otherwise this seems to be a rotation based on salary. Also, while I'd like to see Lieber in the rotation, if we remove Hill from it before, say, ever, I'm going to put my hand through a wall.
  6. I never understood why people trust projectons, I really don't. because they're better than what any random person will do off the top of his or her head. Unless it's a positive projection for a Cubs prospect, right?
  7. My favorite is how the Central gains like 20 wins as a whole.
  8. Law is hit or miss. He tries to be out on the edge with his opinions and often times he makes himself look dumb stretching things to be controversial. He's like the Jim Rome of SABR-friendly writers. As far as his scouting reports go, I'll take the word of all the other people who watched Vitters over Law's lone contrarian opinion, considering what I said above and the fact that Law doesn't really have an extensive scouting background.
  9. Exactly. Also, Theriot's "hack at every strike to get singles" approach is less likely to be affected by having an auto out behind him. And by auto-out I mean the .374 OPS, yes OPS, that Cub pitchers put up last year, not the replacement level production of a middle infielder.
  10. BBB already showed that Theriot is worse, but even if he weren't, Pie's particular weakness in approach has a larger chance of getting exploited by hitting 8th. With his ability/potential, it doesn't make sense to put him there. Pie's weakness will continue to be exploited until he figures out how to adjust. It really doesn't matter if Pie hits 1st, 2nd, 7th or 8th - pitchers are going to throw him sliders in and high fastballs and he'll continue to get himself out until he figures out how to lay off those pitches. The scouting report from the opposing pitcher doesn't change just because he's hitting 7th as compared to 8th. If/when he starts outhitting Theriot and he starts to suck, as many of you consider a foregone conclusion, then slot them accordingly. Until then, hit Pie in the 8 hole. The 8th spot is the one spot in the order where there can be a significant difference in how you're pitched, because there's an automatic out behind him(whereas there's varying degrees of danger in the other spots). I'm not saying Pie is going to OPS 900 in the 7 spot and 600 in the 8 spot, but when you have a chance to shield someone as talented as Pie because there is a hitter as bad as Theriot to hit 8th instead of Pie, it's a relative no brainer to do it.
  11. He stopped and then completely moved his pivot foot. Looked like a pretty clear traveling call to me. Agreed My question was whether he had to lift his pivot foot or not. His pivot foot never actually left the ground - the toe was still firmly planted the whole time. Now, if simply pivoting on the pivot foot is a travel, that's where the confusion lies for me. From my recollection, he caught the ball with his left foot down and his right foot still in the air, establishing his left as the pivot. Then his right came down and he pivoted on it, making it a walk.
  12. Poor CBS wants to show me Davidson/Georgetown but it goes to timeout every time they switch.
  13. Hopefully there's a bunch of timeouts in one of the Davidson/Georgetown or San Diego/WKU games, right now they're on pace to finish at just about the same time.
  14. Dempster. They could possibly be interested in Fuld too. What would we want in return though?
  15. San Diego needs to kick it into gear, it's an opportunity for me to gain a couple points since pretty much no one picked them to win(or WKU for that matter).
  16. Lopez would make a nice platoon partner for Theriot, they'd put up decent offensive production for a SS. In most situations Theriot would be available as a defensive replacement(Murton and maybe DeRosa would be in front of him on the PH list) at the end of games as well.
  17. UZR has Johnson as a pretty terrible defensive CF over the years.
  18. BBB already showed that Theriot is worse, but even if he weren't, Pie's particular weakness in approach has a larger chance of getting exploited by hitting 8th. With his ability/potential, it doesn't make sense to put him there.
  19. Those pictures tell a different story, but in real time and on the replay it was hard to tell if Shipp got any of Sloan's arm on the shot. I think it's hard to blame the officials on that one, especially since the aTm gameplan appeared to be "dribble at the basket and shoot without any sense of a plan".
  20. Both the seeming game-winners in Anaheim have been ridiculous shots, Brook Lopez and now Collison.
  21. Pitt is my 2nd Sweet 16 team and 1st Elite 8 to go. UCLA could make 2 Elite 8 teams eliminated in the span of 20 minutes.
  22. CBS takes me back to KU/UNLV so I can watch KU dribble out the clock, what?
  23. Pitt and UCLA could make me 7 of 8 today, with the 1 being the lone Sweet 16 team I lost in the first round(Zona).
  24. This is irritating, take me to Stanford/Marquette, it's a 3 point game with under 3 left, KU is up 10 with 13 minutes to play.
