  1. If Cedeno doesn't start getting starts now, what exactly is necessary for him to ever start? The arguments before were: - Theriot is more of a sure thing, we can't afford 2006 Cedeno in the lineup again - He was awful when he made the Major Leagues at age 7, he may be a AAAA guy So now we have Cedeno getting some playing time and making the absolute most of it. He is raking, hitting for a high average, extra base hits, as well as having some outstanding at bats showing selectivity and taking some walks. He's made some stellar defensive plays that Theriot can only make in Second Life(if his character can fly), while limiting any snafus to the point where they are no more prevalent than Theriot being unable to make a play because of his physical limitations. If you don't start him now, then when? The whole "waiting for Theriot to cool down" is a cop out. The argument was never dependent on Theriot's performance before, and making it so now is disingenuous.
  2. 5x5 non-keeper
  3. He's got a ways to catch Cedeno's .957.
  4. Pick a side. Fukudome/Matsuzaka or J Upton/Volquez
  5. It has been since, well, ever.
  6. Donaldson with another 0-fer, he's OPSing about .475 now. Atkins not doing much for Tennessee: 3 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 H, 3/1 K/BB, 1 HR At least Thomas went 2 for 4 with a double. And a fielding error.
  7. LeBron had 58 more assists, 28 more rebounds, and 14 more blocks than any season Kobe has ever had.
  8. Look at Pie's splits from 2006, by the end of the year he was torching Iowa, and it continued into 2007.
  9. I don't really like the Peavy/Santana comparison, but Marmol has shown he can be a starter, quite a good one too. At AA he put up a 1.16 WHIP, 10.39 K/9, and 2.68 K/BB. He followed that up with 7 starts in AAA before going to the Chicago pen: 1.02 WHIP, 10.53 K/9, and 4.00 K/BB. Those are outstanding numbers, and considering his stuff and the fact that he wasn't too old for those levels, they could project him as a very good starter, certainly better than middle of the rotation. Personally, I don't mind Marmol's usage thus far. It's a little more than I'd like at this point pitch count wise, but he's been rested appropriately, and I have confidence that as Howry and Wuertz round into form that he'll be used better.
  10. Speaking of things that don't walk, Colvin's having a good run lately. Last 10 games he's .333/.333/.690 (42 AB/PAs) with 8/0 K/BB
  11. RedFlash is a Bama fan.
  12. No it appears the only place that has the wrong date is the media guide. How do you not notice that his year of birth is 2 years different on all the official documents? Granted it's not like Billy Beane and whoever's running Houston into the ground are personally checking the documents on every international they sign, but somebody, especially with that being a past issue, should have noticed it.
  13. Fantastic. Peoria went from being last year's least interesting affiliate to hands down the most interesting this year.
  14. Of course he did, Votto's off to a 13 for 37 start and Hatteberg is 4 for 23. The problem is that Dusty will look to change things up the first time Votto goes through a 1 for 15 spell, especially if Hatteberg has a couple strong outings.
  15. That's a good outing from Gallagher. WHIP around 1, no walks, 5 K's, no HR, plus he gave up everything in his last inning of work(prior to that he was 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 5/0 K/BB)
  16. The problem comes when you swing at Ball 4 and the runner is thrown out at 2B. Or you ground into a double play. Or hit the ball in the air and get the runner doubled off 1st. There's way, way, way too much risk involved in the hit & run for justifying its use on anything remotely resembling a regular basis. Well first you have to trust your hitters not to be swinging at ball 4. Next you have to trust your baserunners to have enough awareness to see the ball hit in the air and return to his base. And finally, the hit and run is to stay out of the groundball DP. Hit-and-runs backfire because the pitch is swung on and missed, or because the ball is hit on a line to an infielder. Hit-and-runs are advantageous on a groundball, or any kind of hit to the OF. If the odds for the latter are better than the odds of the former, then you've got a positive EV. An extra base is not as much a positive as losing a baserunner is a negative.
  17. Lee has like 8 hits in his last 6 at bats with 9 of them being for extra bases, stop trying to stay out of the double play
  18. Crimeny Fontenot, that was a fastball down the middle of the plate.
  19. It bothers me quite a bit that there's a sign for "try to hit the ball hard in the gap somewhere".
  20. Michael Wuertz never showed up on a list of Cubs top prospects, and he still has one of the filthiest sliders in the game, or at least one that is whiffed on the most.
  21. I find it hilariously appropriate that Gundy's letter is in all caps. And how has LSU not updated their letterhead to include their new championship?
