  1. I'm not sure of this, but I think Spilborghs is about on par with Murton as a defensive CF.
  2. hahahaha, Guatemala didn't need anything in their last game against Canada, so they lost 5-0 to make it nearly impossible for Mexico to advance. Mexico almost did it(SBI has a running commentary, it was apparently insane), but they aren't going to advance after a 5-1 win.
  3. My first pass through the bracket revealed that I am a pansy. Only one non-chalk pick in the Sweet 16 . Last year's tournament is scaring me away from upsets.
  4. Butler played two, two teams in the RPI Top 50. They beat Ohio State(who was barely in the Top 50 at 49), and lost on their home court to Drake. Drake was the only team in the tournament that they played. It's hard to make an argument for them being higher than anyone.
  5. Tennessee was 16-4 v. the RPI top 100, Kansas was 15-3. Maybe Tennessee should've beaten a team that was a double digit seed(before that win bumped them up to their current 9 seed) on a neutral court.
  6. hahaha "Illinois-Minnesota, who you got Bob?" "I don't care"
  7. I dunno, it's hard for me to push ISU past those guys when their best wins are Creighton, SIU, and Wright State, and they have just as many bad losses(RPI>100) as those 3. Maryland beat UNC, Oregon beat 'Zona twice(and have only 2 bad losses to 4 for the rest of this quartet), and Virginia Tech, well they beat Florida State I guess, and they have a shot at UNC today.
  8. So much for Tulsa giving me something to pay attention to during my last hour of work. They're already down 20 to Memphis.
  9. Check Rivalries for discussion on Matsui's injury.
  10. Aaron Crow is good. Very good. Granted it was only Toledo, but I don't think an outfielder was even used after the 4th inning or so. Complete game shutout, and from our count he had around 10 K's, no walks. EDIT: Here's the final line. 9 IP, 0 R, 7 H(2 bunt singles), 15/0 K/BB, 9/0 GB/FB, 107 pitches(87 strikes) And he picked a guy off first.
  11. That starting pitching doesn't look all that great for a 10 team league. I know there's the extra holds category, but still.
  12. Could you get less guys on base for the 3-4-5 then that lineup? The only way it could be worse if it was Theriot/Pie 1-2. If Pie hits well, then he's going to be a better option to get more at bats than DeRosa or Theriot/Cedeno.
  13. Braun is definitely regressing this year. There's simply no way in the world he's hitting .450/.516/.964/1.480 against LHP again, and he was a kinda mediocre .282/.319/.526/.845 against RHP.
  14. News like this makes me want to hurt small animals, or something equally demented like paying more attention to the Roberts thread.
  15. You take it back, you take it back right now.
  16. 12 teams, H2H, 5x5 scoring C - Victor Martinez 1B - Nick Swisher 2B - Ian Kinsler SS - Hanley Ramirez 3B - Chipper Jones OF - Nick Markakis OF - Shane Victorino OF - Jeremy Hermida UTIL - Rocco Baldelli BN - Justin Upton, Evan Longoria SP - Josh Beckett SP - Francisco Liriano P - Matt Cain P - Adam Wainwright P - George Sherrill RP - Mariano Rivera RP - Eric Gagne BN - Clay Buchholz, Andrew Miller, Kevin Slowey EDIT: Added Sherrill
  17. And what have those three done since the trade though? Pinto has been somewhat decent, the other two, not so much. Their performance since then is mostly irrelevant. At the time, they had more value in trade than Pierre.
  18. In '06 Lee had a .690 Spring OPS. He then had a 1.062 OPS to start the year before his injury.
  19. Range Factor is an awful defensive metric. Roberts isn't super defensively, but he's better than DeRosa.
  20. The thing I can't believe is that they gave UCLA the ball after they hacked Anderson in the corner. I mean, you might be able to think that he wasn't fouled, but there's simply no way in the world he touched the ball last. Amazing shot by Shipp though.
  21. The part about the author at the end(and the fact that he's a "guest columnist") makes me pretty sure it's satire. Art Garfamudis is a writer and secretary-treasurer of the baseball chapter of the SLWEA -- the Society for Leaving Well Enough Alone.
  22. Bummer for Petrick. Maybe that means they like what they see out of Ascanio. Speaking of which, who knows where Ascanio stands with options?
  23. Young is also not a shortstop, we'd be better off just playing DeRosa there.
  24. It bears repeating, Marmol is only a reliever if you use him as one.
