  2. I'm with you, except with the roles reversed. I'd like to see Ascanio put together a good spring and get the last bullpen slot.

  5. Prince needs a refresher course as to how this works. You get to be an indentured servant, then you make a little more, and then you can command more than your weight(that's right, a fat joke) in free agency. Shut up Prince, you're probably just irritable from meat withdrawal(two fat jokes in one post, ahaha).
  6. The original chit chat thread was well over 1000 pages, it's a record that will never be broken most likely.
  7. haha Mizzou, way to get outscored by about 50 points in the last 12 minutes you idiots
  8. It's possible to still get value out of his career. The key is to keep him around for his peak years, limit the financial commitment, and be prepared to cut ties when he becomes expensive. Jacque Jones level production, at minimum wage, and as the 5th or 6th best bat on the team, isn't bad. That's especially true if he's a CF. You'd then have to commit financially to having greater production elsewhere. Ideally you'd trade him as he approaches 30 and before he hits his last year of arbitration. Maybe you can sucker some team into getting quality. But even if you just let him walk, by and large that would have to be considered a successful investment. the problem is, what if felix pie turns out to be a good everyday player. i mean, i guess that's not a problem, but colvin will in no way be good enough to man one of the corner spots. i suppose he could be a 4th outfielder, but I'd just rather trade him now before everyone realizes that he isn't that good. Fukudome and Soriano aren't going to allow him to play a role in the corner. If Felix turns out to be good, you trade Colvin. But that is a long way away, and by no means anything close to a certainty. As you pointed it, it's not really a problem. I look at it this way. I think Colvin is a low risk low reward guy right now. I think he's a safe bet to do something at the major league level. So, you try and strike gold with Pie for now, and keep letting Colvin develop - this also allows you to delay his arbitration clock, and makes it easier to keep him during what should be his peak years. Well considering we took him with our only pick out of the first 148 in the draft, I wouldn't exactly call it a low risk move. That's a bit of a different point, I mean we didn't have Soriano or Kosuke when we drafted Colvin.

  11. Thanks a bunch for doing that, it's great to hear the highlights for those who couldn't listen.
  12. Even without Gallagher, the team has Zambrano, Lilly, Hill, Marquis, Dempster, Marshall, Hart, possibly Marmol, and anyone who might break out this year(Samardzija, Veal, Atkins, Holliman) as available starters. I agree with opposing this deal, but the one thing we certainly have is starting pitching depth(even if Gallagher is dealt) to make sure Les Walrond doesn't see Wrigley Field again without a ticket.
  13. Anyone know how Ross is defensively in CF? This would be a great idea in many ways.
  14. Kendall's a guy who's said in the past he intentionally doesn't try to hit for power, so I doubt it helps him in that area much. For getting on base, I think his declining bat speed has more to do with his suckitude than pitch recognition.
  15. Hahaha. I'm glad that I wasn't logged in so I was able to see this gem. I don't see what's so crazy about that. His OBP was .377 last year. He's stating with certainty that Roberts will reach an OBP that he has only reached once. That's about 35 points above his career average, and Roberts has been over .350 only twice in his career. It's similar to saying Soriano is a shoo-in for a .360 OBP.
  16. It's not that he's biased for a particular team, but he picks "something to watch for", and he OBSESSES over it the entire game, to the detriment of the broadcast. When Gamble was at OSU he did everything but update the viewer to what flavor Gatorade Gamble was drinking. Another example was his bizarre infatuation with Steve Breaston.
  17. Musberger doesn't take sides? I'm pretty sure he's still trying to get the latest scoop on where Chris Gamble will be lining up every time he does an OSU game. He's awful.
  18. Anything that can ensure that I can take my yet-unborn children to their first Cubs game at Wrigley Field like my dad did for me I'm in favor of. So, he took your mom to the game? I'm confused?!?! No, his dad took him to a game when he was a kid, and he hopes he can do the same to his kids(which he doesn't have yet) someday.
  19. I don't really have a legitimate reason for it, but I'm skeptical of Hudson's offense, even though he's done it two years now and broke out during his prime years. If he continues to put up even a .350/.425 line he's much better than Roberts because of the defensive advantage.
  20. Well, definitely use a 1B for a UTIL spot if you have one.
  21. +1million Anonymity goes a long way to making someone a jerk jamie, your name isn't on that post, you must have forgotten to sign it The fact that you are readily able to know my name goes to prove that I am in fact not anonymous nor am I attempting to hide my name. If the contrary were true, i could very easily have never given my name on this website So, it's okay for you to use a screen name for internet ramblings that hundreds of people read because your name is easily out there, but it's not okay for Michael Schur to use a screen name for internet ramblings that hundreds of people read, even though his name is easily out there?
  22. Great first game for the Cavs with their newcomers. Sure it was only a home game against Memphis, but Wallace got 12 and 10 on 5 of 6 shooting, Smith had 14 and 6 on 6 of 8 shooting, Wally hit a couple treys for 10 points, and West had 6 assists and 3 steals.
  23. Arsenal's Eduardo gets his leg broken at the ankle by a tackle
  24. Refreshing to read about Kosuke's selectivity at the plate.
