  1. I'm gonna go ahead and say that .2 seconds is probably within the margin of error for a 10 guys doing 5 trials for each of the 3 finishes.
  2. I'm pretty sure there have been studies larger than 10 random people that have shown sliding into first base slows you down. Also, the potential for injury sliding feet first where the first baseman is holding the bag makes it much more dangerous than sliding into any other bag.
  3. his babip in his last two minor league seasons was .359 and .375. maybe it's that he's been ridiculously lucky for 3 straight years now, but it's more likely that he's like an ichiro and can put up a consistently high babip due to his speed and hitting lefthanded. He's got less than a full season's worth of playing time in his MLB career, spreading it out over September 2006 and in most of last season doesn't prove to me that he's got the rare ability to sustain an insanely high BABIP. so you are ignoring the fact that his babip in the minors was just as good as it has been in the majors? Yes, because he was 2+ years old for just about every level of his minor league career.

  5. Ryan Perrilloux may be the reason Chase Daniel is at Mizzou, so I will love him no matter how many shenanigans he gets himself into.
  6. What does that accomplish? Theriot's bat looks even worse at 2B.
  7. I'm not a very big fan of Willits. His age in his minor league time plus his BABIP in the major leagues don't fill me with optimism. Marquis is worth more than a buy high on a slap hitter like Willits.
  8. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm off base. Ronaldo in his prime was an amazing goal scorer. Ronaldinho in his prime is/was the best player in the world, capable of scoring as well as controlling the game as a center midfielder. To use a basketball analogy, imagine Ronaldo as one of the best scorers in history, although he wasn't exceptional in any other aspect(passing, rebounding, defense). Ronaldinho is the complete package, excelling in all areas(although scoring less often than Ronaldo) although the analogy breaks down because the volume of scoring is so different in the sports.
  9. Huh? Soriano would have no protection batting 6th. Pitcher's won't even try to get him out, they'll just throw garbage pitches up there in hopes that he chases, while not actually worrying about walking him because of the weakness that follows him. You have to pitch to a guy that is up before the 2-3-4 spots. Pretty basic stuff. FWIW, I meant to say 5th originally, because that's what you were talking about, but I don't think it really makes a difference to your point. That said, Soriano doesn't become a significantly less patient hitter when you move him down the order, and that's why the "changing level of fear" pitchers have of walking him is a fallacy. Lineup protection is largely irrelevant.
  10. Why does that sequence of pitches dominate Soriano when hitting 6th, but not 1st?
  11. That is outstanding.
  12. Yesterday was the first time I've seen Harden play, and he looked like an overzealous guy in a pickup game. Everytime he did something it seemed like it was out of sync with the offense, whether it was penetrating to the foul line before losing the ball or passing, or chucking threes from a standstill.
  13. This isn't perfect because anytime someone steals 3rd it doesn't apply, but still: Soriano put himself in scoring position by himself 99 times last year, 33 of them being HR that scored him without any help(ideal). He did this in 617 PA's, for a rate of .160 Roberts put himself in scoring position by himself 109 times last year, 12 of them being HR that scored him without any help. He did this in 716 PA's, for a rate of .152
  14. That was a fun read, thanks.
  15. Western Conference Team GB 1. * New Orleans -- 2. * Phoenix -- 3. LA Lakers 1.5 4. * Utah 3.0
  16. Not a single post about Godbold hitting a thirty footer with a hand in his face to win the OU game? I know it was a middle of the road B12 matchup, but that was about as insane a finish as you can get.
  17. I think we've covered the pros and cons pretty well in the 200+ pages of this thread. Is it necessary to rehash the same thing every couple pages?
  18. There's a joke about Ryan Braun's defense somewhere in here. And yes, this. I was pretty stoked when it initally sounded like we were going to KC this year. Kauffman is a real nice place to watch a game, and I think they still have the cheapest ticket prices in MLB.
  19. The phrase "false hustle" is awesome.
  20. I see what you did there.
  21. Who are the 4 starters in Tennessee pushing Atkins that far down? In Iowa you have Hart, Samardzija, Gallagher, Holliman/castoff, and I guess another castoff(Walrond/O'Malley/Mathes/Schappert/etc, or maybe Marmol if they want to stretch him out). That leaves in Tennessee: Veal(who could be moved to the pen), and a bunch of people who have no business forcing someone as successful as Atkins to the pen. In no particular order, Berg, Santo, Estrada, Reinhard, Taylor, and maybe someone who'd skip Daytona like Hernandez or Pina. I just don't see how there's that many arms more valuable than Atkins to put him in that type of jeopardy of losing a rotation spot.
  22. Gallagher, Murton, Cedeno, and Colvin for Roberts and Payton? I'd do Marshall, Murton, Veal for those two.
