  1. Really? It's better than the alternative of letting him walk. It might not beat out other offers, but it's hardly a ridiculous offer.
  2. From a recent Hal McCoy column:
  3. Attention Jerry Manuel: When you are tied in the bottom half of the 9th inning and beyond, you should use your best relievers, not your worst. Every half inning in that situation is a save situation.
  4. Yes, he's at 3B and singled in his first at bat.
  5. Gallagher, Cedeno, and 2 of Veal, Ceda, Colvin, Samardzija, Hill, Marshall. Alternatively, Gallagher, Cedeno, and Pie.
  6. e-mailing to FJM immediately... You made the cut, wtg
  7. My bad, I didn't realize there was an off day on Monday.
  8. Given the quotes on what's happening to Marshall, it would appear to be Dempster on Tuesday and Z on Wednesday.
  9. With 13 pitchers you only have 4 guys to pinch hit, and one of them is the catcher. He probably didn't want to burn any more pinch hitters than absolutely necessary.
  10. Lots more details in the International Free Agent Market thread. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=46650
  11. Nope. 2007 Theriot 1st: .300/.342/.420/.762, 161 PA's 2nd: .253/.324/.310/.634, 312 PA's 7th: .257/.350/.343/.693, 41 PA's 8th: .280/.321/.320/.641, 56 PA's
  12. It looks like Marquis will be matched up against Daryl Thompson, who's making his 3rd start today, and hasn't been very good(6 BB to 4 K, 1.80 WHIP). On the other hand, Sunday's matchup is against Wellemeyer, who's been injured and knocked around recently. Is Sunday's game the Sunday Night game? Maybe Lou thinks it's funny to have the same guy pitch in that game two weeks in a row.
  13. Yeah, it sounds like Ascanio to Iowa when Z comes up, then Marshall(with a small chance of it being Gallagher) going to the pen after the weekend.
  14. When Johnson comes back, it'll be Murton or Patterson. My guess is Murton, since Johnson makes Murton more redundant, and Patterson was called up in front of him. EPatt's LF snafus may change that though. When Z comes back, it gets trickier. They were talking on the radio Sunday about how either Marshall or Gallagher could keep the 5th rotation spot when Z returns, and the other may be headed to the bullpen. Marshall went on to have a pretty solid start, and Gallagher pitches again on Thursday. With Lou's comments on Gallagher, and the odds of him pitching well in AT&T against the Giants offense, I'm guessing he stays in the rotation. Then the question becomes, do you send down Marshall, Ascanio, or Cotts. There's good reasons to choose all 3 of them, so I have no idea which one it'd be. If Marshall keeps the rotation gig, then the choice becomes Gallagher v. Ascanio, and I'd think Ascanio goes to Iowa in that case.
  15. two of those strikes were a foot outside, that's terrible
  16. MiLB.com says that Pina just threw a third of an inning in the Boise game, did he not get promoted to Peoria after all? Coleman followed him by striking out the side with a hit scattered amongst the K's.
  17. With the camera angle it looks like Ward's leading off halfway to 3rd base.
  18. Could Rowand have made that look any harder?
  19. That's a heck of a stop by Soto on ball 4. Marquis spiked that in front of the plate in the other batter's box.
