  1. Especially after this That game was the reason WHY they did it. I couldn't care less about this because the alternating years method that they employed before this was just about as dumb. How would you decide home field? I personally don't have a problem with the alternating years method. The way it's done now with the ASG is flat out dumb. I don't think it's fair to allow the team with the better record to do it because the two WS teams played only a couple of the same opponents during the year. At least with home-field within the NL, the two teams still played a majority of games against the same teams. And if you use interleague record, I don't think that's fair either because you're allowing teams who don't even make the playoffs to help decide which league gets home field. name me a professional sport where every team plays the exact same schedule haha, pretty much every professional soccer league in Europe. They might play extra games that don't count towards the league championship, but everyone plays the exact same schedule for the league. Fairly significant difference. All those leagues constitute the sport when combined. They end up playing each other in a champions league, right? Well, not every league is in the Champions league, and there's other championship tournaments that are played for besides the Champions League.
  2. Incidentally, has anybody done anything less to become famous? Arnold Palmer is a golfer.
  3. Mayo's a better shooter than I thought, look at his percentages.
  4. oh that's just top notch, kudos
  5. Here's an amusing excerpt from Goat Riders, who had one of their writers sit by the bullpen last night.
  6. I really enjoy it when our international signee catchers who are known mainly for their defense start hitting the crap out of the ball out of nowhere. .340/.397/.585/.982 in 58 PA's at AA.
  7. 0 for 2 with 2 K's for Mike, 1/2 in SB attempts Vitters is 2 for 3 with a double. If he keeps this up, he's going to be in Peoria very soon. He's at .361/.395/.555/.950 in 38 PA's. Rebel Ridling is staying hot by going 2 for 3 with a double as well. .407/.467/.667/1.134 in 30 PA's for Rebel.
  8. youre kidding right? thats like saying hitler was a better person than mother theresa No. Fontenot is better. You may be alone on this one, TT See for yourself. http://minors.baseball-reference.com/players.cgi?pid=6712 http://minors.baseball-reference.com/players.cgi?pid=4882

  10. well, he's over 1.000 ops .304/.387/.622/1.009 Did you add in his sac fly? Your OBP total looks a little high, at least from what I calculated. BR has plate appearances as a column, but for some reason now that I think of it I added 4 to it instead of 5. I'm not smart.
  11. Vitters singles in his first at bat. No Flaherty in the lineup tonight.
  12. I imagine Korver's height(he's what, 5 inches taller than Redick?) adds to his margin for error when it comes to getting shots up quickly, or creating space for yourself to get off his shot.
  13. Bad thing about Donaldson's BABIP is that it's not out of line with his LD%. 13% and .244
  14. Thames got rung up on a pitch about a foot outside. He snapped and got tossed. Meh, it was borderline. But he really flipped out. It wasn't the worst call in history, and Thames lost his mind and stomped back to yell at the ump behind the plate, but that wasn't close. He had a right to be mad(but not insane).
  15. Thames got rung up on a pitch about a foot outside. He snapped and got tossed.
  16. Fontenot can play 3B too, they just choose to move DeRosa there and keep Fontenot at 2B for the same effect.
  17. That's a pretty steep price for O'Neal. I know the Cavs were linked to him, I'm glad not at that price.
  18. Schumaker and Ankiel both HR in the first 3 hitters of the game. 2-0 Cards
  19. He made the putback game winner against Mizzou last year after a bogus traveling call[/still bitter] From what I can remember, Johnson is a good player, who can shoot inside the line.
  20. I agree about Tech. They're going to be good enough to beat anyone on any day, but I haven't seen anything from them that would lead me to believe they can play defense consistently enough to challenge for the Conference title(of course, you could've said the same thing about Mizzou before last season). As far as Mizzou goes, they don't draw the toughest part of the south(Texas, Baylor, OSU), but they still have 3 non-home games against ranked teams(@Texas, Kansas and Illinois at neutral sites), plus they haven't won in Lincoln since we landed on the moon or something. They've still got to be favorites for the North though, as they didn't lose much from the best team last year, and their best competition both have rough schedules(KU plays Texas, OU, and Texas Tech; Colorado has a brutal non-con, and has to travel to KU and Mizzou).
  21. If they'd send him to Iowa (if they can) to stretch him out, I wouldn't at all mind seeing him as the long man out of the pen, provided the keep him as the long man this time and not as a LOOGY. He's talking about Lieber, not Marshall.
  22. The Cardinals have a shot at the wild card, especially being in the lead currently. However, when you look down the roster, they don't compare to their competitors. Carpenter and Wainwright are both currently injured, Carpenter is questionable to even pitch in 2008, and if he does there's a strong likelihood he won't be at his best. Latest news is that Wainwright will be out until August. The Dodgers(Billingsley, Kuroda, Lowe, Kershaw) and Braves(Hudson, Jurrjens, Campillo, Reyes/Glavine) have a better rotation, and the Mets(Santana, Maine) and Brewers(Sheets, Suppan) are better at the top of the rotation. Pujols is the best player in the game, but Ludwick and Ankiel are not much after him. Ankiel has a flawed approach and has about a .740 OPS since April. Ludwick outhit anything he's ever done, and has fallen off to a .737 OPS in June. Glaus is a quality player, but not spectacular. The Brewers with Fielder, Braun, Hart, and Cameron are more formidable, as are the Braves(Jones, Teixeira, McCann, Johnson), and the Mets(Wright, Beltran, Reyes, Church) and Marlins(Ramirez, Uggla, Cantu, Hermida) are similar. The Cards could still make the playoffs, but it won't be because their talent is the class of the wild card contenders.
  23. Makes the most sense - Hoff and Ward are pretty redundant. Yeah, who needs a pair of lefty power bats when you can have Ronny Cedeno. Didn't we just come to the conclusion that Cedeno was out of options, or did someone take that part of the thread off? Yes, he's out of options. Also, we'd have 2 guys with no defensive position on the team, no backup SS, and only Johnson/Murton and Blanco from the right side on the bench. There's no need for Hoffpauir with Ward on the team, especially since Fontenot is a capable second LH pinch hitter
