How long of a contract did he get? If it's only one year, I'm surprised there's no rumor of him being on the hot seat. If I'm Jocketty, I didn't hire him and I don't want him around my kids. He'd be gone already. There would have been four managers canned last week. He may be under instructions to allow him to last the year since they don't have any expectations of competing this year anyways. The Reds have enough pieces in place to be scary in another year or two, so I'd like to see Dusty keep hanging around there in the mean time. dude thats uncalled for. lets keep this about baseball. I believe by "kids" he's referring to the Reds' young players like Bruce, Votto, Cueto, Volquez, and Bailey. What irony, you fell in the sarchasm.
IIRC, he's had 3 relief outings, 2 good, 1 awful. I'll dig up the log. Here we go. Looks like the bad one wasn't too awful after all. 1.2 IP, 1 K .2 IP, 4 H 1.2 IP, 2 K For a total of 4 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 3/0 K/BB
I doubt that's really the case. That's an overview from a source that's covering all 30 teams, so I don't think they're too in the know when it comes to the plans of the Organization for Cashner. He hasn't even signed yet, and even then there's talk of him becoming a starter again, so I doubt he sees Wrigley this season.
Derwood's talking about the structure of the game. In basketball some teams will have better winning percentages at home than others, or have a better crowd to contribute to that. In baseball, the home team always has the advantage of the last at bat, regardless of their quality.
I don't think CubbieBum is a Buckeye fan. Also, Illinois lost it's best player on both sides of the ball. Even with maturity from younger players, that's difficult to replace. Especially when Mendenhall helped take a lot of pressure off Williams and his arm. With a lesser back, Juice is going to have to make better throws, more often. If he can't, U of I isn't going to score much.
I don't think anyone who was upset with Rothschild was saying that the changes made were "maintaining the problem". The point was that when you have a guy like Hill, who in the past was the left handed Rick Vaughn, who needed to see a sports psychologist along with mechanical changes to be effective at the MLB level, you should probably not try to do more tinkering than necessary. Changing his mechanics so he's quicker to the plate after he was one of the best starters in the NL qualifies as excessive tinkering to me.
They're only 4.5 games out. I'm not sure why people think they want to trade their best pitcher. I'm also not sure why we'd be willing to give up much of anything for a guy who has averaged 15 starts per season over the last four years. Beane was burned on the Giambi deal, and he hasn't let another player walk via FA since. If he doesn't think he can afford to resign him in the offseason, he'll be dealt, unless they're looking like strong WS contenders, and not just a borderline playoff team. Beane knows as well as anyone can win the WS once they make the playoffs. If he thinks they can get in, he's not going to trade away Harden. He also has 5 starters with ERA's under 4, plus Blanton, and an offense that will keep them out of the playoffs if they don't add to it. We might not be able to give them what they need though.
Why would they trade Patterson? Don't they need a 2b for next year? He has shown alot of promise in the last couple of days. btw I know it is a small sample size, but he has still been impressive. DeRosa is under contract through 2009.
Vitters singled in his second AB. Jackson's final line: 3 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 6/1 K/BB Brett Lorin for Boise's opponent the SkySox: 5 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 12/1 K/BB
Another unnecessary CG attempt from Dempster? Cmon, we're going to need him come September/October. he's only at 96 pitches so it's not as bad as last time, but unnecessary still.
Flaherty starts at SS tonight and homers in his first at bat. Vitters is DHing and K'ed in his 1st PA, and Jay Jackson struck out the side in the first.
How does the first baseman have anything to do with a balk? You can't throw to an unoccupied base. I'm pretty sure that's what got that balk called on Lilly a while back. Lee was in for the bunt and didn't get to the base.
I can see the commercials you see, so I'd appreciate your review. Ellsbury K's, unbelievable You in Columbia this summer? Nope, but I'm just going to assume they're the same commercials in the St. Louis area, mainly because I want to hear you rant about local ads.
They were relatively even with contrasting styles. Spain is one of the favorites to win the tournament, and play an open, attacking style. Italy is a perennial power(2006 World Cup "winner"), and play very defensive soccer.
