  1. why would you trade veal for lifetime .248 hitter who hit .213 last year, dont we have Cedeno already? I understand why people think Greene is an upgrade over Theriot, i hate theriot and i still think he's better than Greene. If you are going to look for an upgrade over theriot, than think about Furcal, Renteria, Tejada, Philips, etc before thinking about Greene. Theriot is not better than Greene. There's no reason to think he's not at this point.
  2. PMR has Greene as the 5th worst defensive SS in the game last year, rating 94.64(100 is average). Theriot was 24th of the 39 at 100.17.
  3. Pointing out the ridiculous things an SEC homer says doesn't = inferiority complex.
  4. Veal 2008 v. RHP: 492 BF(119.1 IP), 6.94 K/9, 4.22 BB/9, 19 HR, .290 BAA, 41.9% GB% v. LHP: 142 BF(32.1 IP), 8.63 K/9, 6.96 BB/9, 0 HR, .221 BAA, 54.0% GB%
  5. Also, Gary Pinkel is about to get an extension. The thought of him going to Washington was more hope on Husky fans part than anything else, but this should put to bed any Pinkel to School X rumors. Link

  7. Any NCAA Football game. Me and a couple buddies used to make a bracket of all 116 or whatever many teams there were and play it out. I won it one year with Iowa running a hurry up option with Brad Banks.
  8. Read Soccer's last post. It's possible if two non-winners from the same conference are 1-2. Less than 1% chance of it happening in the Big 12 this year like I said before, but possible nonetheless.
  9. 15 of 31 from the line, brutal. I don't mind losing this game, but it hurts that our next two opponents are now going to be Fairfield and Seton Hall instead of Virginia Tech and Memphis/USC.
  10. Kind of disagree with this simply because of how much the North sucks. It won't happen anyways unless Texas Tech runs the table then loses the Big XII Title. Plus Florida would need to lose again, then beat Alabama in the SEC Champ Game. Even if that happened, you'd have 3 1-loss teams without a conference title(Bama, TT, Texas), a conference champ with 2 losses(Florida), and a couple conference champs with 1 loss(Penn State, USC). The odds of the two Big 12 teams out of those 7 being 1-2(especially with Tech losing their most recent game) is essentially zero. You'd need an absolute mayhem situation, with USC, Penn State, Bama, and Florida all losing before the SEC title game, then Florida winning the SEC title along with Tech getting their first loss in the B12 title game. Then Tech and Texas are the only power conference schools with only 1 loss, and even then I wonder if the polls would have Mizzou in front of Tech by that point given the madness that would allow Mizzou to move up in the preceding 2 weeks.
  11. I don't think there's a difference between DeJesus and Kosuke, and I don't really want two of them in the OF, even if one platoons with Johnson.
  12. I'd be very interested in Crazy Eyes at the right price.
  13. I think OU is going to win relatively easily, but I really hope they don't.
  14. I'm really confused that people are upset about the option since it's been reported as a 4 year deal the whole time.
  15. Pick 2: Addai, Grant, Slaton
  16. Mizzou will go as far as their newcomers will take them. If 2 of their guards are having a strong shooting/offensive day, they can beat Illinois. That game will be the first hostile-type environment for all the freshmen, so they could also make a bunch of dumb mistakes and push a winnable game out of reach.
  17. Mizzou used a big second half to throttle Chattanooga 103-75(to compare, Tennessee beat Chattanooga 114-75). First big test of the year coming up with a trip to Puerto Rico. They'll play Xavier, and potentially Virginia Tech, Seton Hall, Memphis, or USC.
  18. So Hendry's incompetence includes his inability to flood the free agent pool with quality players? I assume he means in terms of positions already being filled. Which doesn't really make a lot of sense either since with very few exceptions those positions are filled with good players who just helped them win nearly 100 games.

  20. That's the premium you're going to have to pay. Given Affeldt's situation, it's not a terrible gamble. If you want a proven reliever, then you're going to be paying upwards of 8 figures over 3-4 years for someone like Fuentes, and a contract like that to a reliever might make you bleed out your ears given your posts in this thread.
  21. No, I read it and I understand. Mostly I just don't like giving out multi-year contracts to relievers, especially unproven ones. It rarely works out. Affeldt signed for 2 years, if you're terrified of anything more than a 1 year deal to any reliever, then you're going to end up with a poor bullpen, especially with what the Cubs currently have to work with. Not terrified, I just think it's dumb. Once Affeldt starts showing better results we'll talk. I think you're going to be awfully disappointed with the ability of relievers that will sign a one year deal. Again, given the Cubs' position they need to add a bullpen arm, and considering how happy you were with the Gregg trade, I'm guessing you're even less of a fan of trading any useful assets for one. Hoping for the best out of Gaudin/Wuertz/Samardzija/etc isn't a very good way to go about it. Signing someone with Affeldt's peripherals with no loss other than 4 million and a guaranteed spot in 2010 is about as small a price as you can ask for.

  23. Read the article and you might understand why his results from years past aren't as relevant.
  24. lol What's funny about that? Affeldt is a good RP. I would have liked him here. He's not really good at all. Last season was the only one you could count as "good" in his last 5, and even then he had a 1.31 WHIP. No thanks. He was mediocre in 2007 and awful the previous 3 years. And for 8 million? We have better options that are much cheaper. Have we not learned that it's dumb to give out big contracts to relievers? http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/free-agent-bargain-jeremy-affeldt
  25. Well that sucks, Affeldt at 2/8 without having to give picks would've been a good move for us.
