  1. or could be kicked off the team. And I was so nice to you about the Twins. Lyons is the only member of the Athena 5 left, and he's more likely to pull a Joaquin Phoenix and start his rap career in earnest. Plus Miguel Paul is Chris Paul's cousin, which means his nickname is MP3, which is somehow multiple kinds of terrible and awesome at the same time.
  2. With 6 newcomers it's really hard for me to guess Mizzou's starting 5. They'll probably open the season with F Leo Lyons 6-9 Senior F Demarre Carroll 6-8 Senior G Matt Lawrence 6-7 Senior G J.T. Tiller 6-4 Junior G Zaire Taylor 6-4 Junior (Transfer from Delaware) By the end of the season, any or all of the 3 freshmen guards (Marcus Denmon 6-3, Miguel Paul 6-1, Kim English 6-6) could be in the starting lineup.
  3. Nebraska has crummy facilities in a recruiting wasteland and hasn't been nationally relevant in several years.
  4. You got me, frugality is the other main F of the Twins paradigm (the others being Fielding and Francisco).
  5. Vitters wasn't good enough for that job I suppose. BTW, that's still alive and I'm aiming to get it rolled out over Thanksgiving.
  6. His numbers seem to indicate power stuff with big control problems. Not a bad exchange for a non-prospect like Avery.
  7. Because it's the Twins, they love defense. Then wouldn't it make more sense to leave young in the OF and DH Cuddyer? So they can add a defensive wonderboy in Greene. They still have Kubel to get ABs for too.
  8. Because it's the Twins, they love defense.
  9. Hoping for information and opinions? Does the following sound like a plea for debate?
  10. Sarcasm and elitism aside, I already made mention that the only reason I have personally to believe in Rich is the one season. That was kind of my point. Was that one season enough to convince people he can come back at equal or better value, or is he done? It was a simple question, and honestly your response pisses me off. Just really no need for the sarcastic attitude. It doesn't make you look good. If you're saying "was that one season enough to convince you", then I don't think you understand what I'm saying. Hill was Rick Vaughn until he somehow flipped the switch mechanically/mentally before 2005. Then he reeled off 525 innings of outstanding pitching over 3 years, including a full season in the major leagues. Now it's obvious that the mechanical/mental block is back. To say his struggles are somehow an indication that he'll never be back is ridiculous when you have Hill's history of simply going from awful to awesome and back again.
  11. Tech wins the South if the oklahoma team they beat wins the OU/OSU game. Here's a real death scenario: - Bama loses the SEC Title game to Florida - Penn State loses to Michigan State - Tech loses to an Oklahoma school but wins the south, then loses to Mizzou in the B12 Title game - Texas wins out - Oregon State wins out Who do you send to the title game? Florida goes with one loss and the SEC title, but you have 1 loss Penn State, USC, Texas, and Bama who didn't win their conference, plus a mess of B12 schools who each beat each other to have 2 losses(OU, TT, OSU, Mizzou). Michigan State would be a 2 loss conference winner as well. The only thing really unlikely about this(aside from it all happening at once) is Oregon State winning out. Removing that condition, do you put USC in the title game over 3-5 more deserving schools because they won their weak conference? EDIT: For some reason I didn't notice Ohio State had 1 conference loss as well. How does that tiebreaker play out if PSU beats OSU who beat MSU who beat PSU? EDIT2: Wow, if I'm reading that right, it looks like Michigan State wins that tiebreaker, because they did not play a FCS school while Penn State(Coastal Carolina) and Ohio State(Youngstown State) did.
  12. If only there was something in Rich Hill's past that showed he would be capable of coming back and being productive at the major league level after being an old for his league basket case who couldn't throw the ball into the ocean. If only.
  13. KU isn't getting a huge influx of talent by any means, so it's probably more of the former. KU loses 3 Offensive Linemen, but returns the rest of their offense. They do lose 5 defensive starters including all 3 linebackers(the current strength of their defense), but that's nothing compared to Mizzou losing 7 defensive starters, 8 if Weatherspoon leaves early. The difference comes down to the most important position on the field. If Gabbert(or Dalton or Glaser) can impress as a freshman, then by the two teams are in pretty similar situations(with Mizzou probably having more talent around the field). However, having a 3rd year starter at the most crucial position is a decided advantage.
  14. Nebraska loses their starting QB, RB, FB, both starting WR, and 2 offensive linemen, plus 2 starters at each level of their defense (6 total leaving). They aren't close enough to the top teams in the North to lose that much and move up the ranks. Furthermore, Pelini hasn't been a big recruiter and he doesn't have a great class coming in, or anything close to it.
  15. Meh. The game is already guaranteed to be an early game on FSN, and while the prospect of a North Championship game is neat, it's not enough for me to root against peace of mind going into Arrowhead, plus the schadenfreude of KU going .500. You're right about next year though, KU will be the favorite for the North. Unless Mizzou can have a smooth transition at QB there's no reason they wouldn't win it either.
  16. Final home game for Daniel, Coffman, and the rest of the seniors. Should be a lot of fun, considering that K-State may be the worst team in the North. I'm also rooting hard for Nebraska against Kansas this Saturday. A Husker win, and a Texas win over KU next weekend gives Mizzou the chance to wrap up the North before they even go to Arrowhead.
  17. lol I think it's even better that Florida is above Texas. Going by that poll, Texas beat number 6 (neutral field) and 8 (home) while losing on the road to the number 4 team, while Florida has beaten number 11 (neutral) and 15 (home) and losing at home to an unranked team with 4 losses. Clearly Florida should be ranked in front of them.
  18. I was really hoping they'd storm the field again after the PAT. Why did they kick the PAT?
  19. Boy that's a terrible offensive pass interference call.
  20. But what happened wasn't illegal contact.
  21. Go Tech go, I'm a big proponent of Tech winning the South.
  22. If a 3 point loss were really the same as a 3 point win, then teams would go for a touchdown down 3 at the end of the game instead of a field goal. Scoring is different in football, and as such it impacts team behavior, since they are trying to win the game instead of maximizing the score. That's not done in baseball, or at least on nearly the same scale.
  23. Mizzou hangs on against Baylor, sheesh.
  24. Mizzou needs to stop messing around and score some points.
  25. you can watch it on espn.com How's that? Click the "Watch Live" link on the scoreboard page, you can watch it on ESPN360 if your ISP has it.
