  2. except he's eclipsed those numbers 2 of the past 6 years, which means it's hardly a lock. he adds probably 15 runs a year with his glove and plays a position where even average offensive players (o. cabrera) get paid $10M. paying jack wilson an average of $7M per year has very, very little to do with why the pirates have been so bad. I'm extremely skeptical Wilson adds 15 runs a year defensively, is there evidence that he's that elite with the glove? PMR says he's about half that, and Win Shares and RZR put him in the middle of the pack defensively among shortstops. Yes, Wilson has been average offensively in the past. He's a 31 year old who's a career sub-.700 OPS and sub-.320 OBP, are teams supposed to gamble on that happening for the second time in 5 years with a Wilson who's leaving his prime and missed half a season last year due to injury? And again, any team trading for him has him for only one year unless they want to pay him 8+ million in 2010. People talk badly about Jack Wilson because he's not good at all, and he's very expensive for his production.
  3. Safety first, Sam, sit this one out.
  4. It's far from scientific when it comes to international prospects. Here's an article posted February 12 talking about the signing. http://74.125.113.132/search?q=cache:9fxMbP6-rL8J:tigers.scout.com/2/728631.html+tigers+sign+guichardo&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us
  5. You sell out for pressure and it takes too long to get around the enormous O-Line and Bradford checks down. You play coverage and DeMarco Murray is grabbing cornerbacks by the throat and sacrificing them to the football gods 15 yards downfield. Ok, I guess it was wrong of me to suggest that opposing defenses were doing anything less than their very best work at scheming against Oklahoma. They should continue to resign themselves to Bradford completing 70% of his throws at 10.5 YPA for a 7/1 touchdown to interception ratio. You're right, defensive coordinators couldn't be doing any better a job at game planning against OU. I hear in preparations they just go help the offense cause they're gonna need it to score 70 to keep pace with OU. Seriously, do you really think OU is that simple to stop? They light up everyone, and they played one of the best defenses from two other conferences, so it's not like this exclusively a Big 12 mystery.

  7. and put him in the major league bullpen? He's got to make the MLB roster or be waived.
  8. Wilson is no Adam Everett defensively. And he's pretty much a lock for a sub-.700 OPS and a sub-.320 OBP. And he's 31 next season. And he makes more than 7 million. And he's only under team control for a year unless you want to pay him 8.4 million in 2010.
  9. What a disaster of a game. I liked the gold jerseys, but mostly because I was afraid they'd look like West Virginia yellow. Carl Gettis picked an awful time to have a bad game, and we got torched over and over because they lined up Meier against our worst secondary member. Reesing should've been sacked a half dozen more times than he was, he single handedly won the game with how many times he not only avoided sacks, but then managed miracle completions.
  10. Lee + Marquis + a couple million of the 10-15 million likely remaining in a budget = Peavy + Teixeira
  11. Teixeira plz. Seriously, acquiring Peavy, getting rid of Lee and being able to acquire Teixeira instead seems ridiculously awesome. RHP/LHP Soriano Fontenot/DeRosa Teixeira Ramirez Soto DeRosa/Johnson Kosuke/Theriot Theriot/Cedeno Peavy, Z, Harden, Lilly, Dempster That's unbelievable.
  12. There has been talk of them going to the MWC. That move would make a lot of sense. I'm confused as to how it would. Does the MWC have better exposure, or would it just make more sense geographically? It has it's own network now in addition to games on Versus and the ESPN family, as opposed to just ESPN games in the WAC. It'd be a huge competitive step up too, with TCU, Utah, and BYU, they'd make a pretty strong top tier for a 10 team non-BCS conference.
  13. holy moly, he made the 57 yarder to give Nebraska the lead. Colorado needs a field goal with 1:30 and a timeout.
  14. hahaha, earlier Nebraska tried the LSU behind the head fake field goal and got picked off for a TD, that's awesome
  15. There's a few that show up from time to time. Losing to Colorado at home with 12 minutes to play, ORDER RESTORED
  16. Odds are OU jumps Texas if they all win this week. If they all win this week, it's either going to be Texas or OU in the title game. Either OU will beat Mizzou and coast in to the title game, or Mizzou beats them and Texas sneaks in. What could throw a wrench into things is if OSU beats OU and Tech wins the South. Public perception is really against Texas Tech, but what if they find themselves in the B12 title game and win? The only team you could put in front of them would be Texas, a team they beat for the South and beat head-to-head. I guess USC is a factor at that point too, although I wonder if they'd get the nod without winning their conference.
  17. Surprised there hasn't been any commentary on the basketball tonight. Michigan State got pantsed by Maryland, Gonzaga and Oklahoma State was entertaining with Gonzaga pulling away late, and now Baylor/Providence looks like a good game.
  18. The trading deadline was two weeks ago. I could've given you a RB for him too.
  19. Were it not for an Earl Watson three with 15 seconds left, the Cavs would've had as many assists in the first quarter as OKC had points. It's nice to see the Cavs stepping on the throat early of teams they should beat.
  20. http://www.baseballmusings.com/archives/030070.php http://www.baseballmusings.com/archives/023929.php Perfect example of why defensive metrics are worthless. I knew somebody was going to post something like that. You can make pretty much anybody look good if you dig hard enough through that stuff. So you think Theriot is average defensively? Come on. I'm trying to avoid the dreaded "don't you watch the games?" line, but it's almost necessary. No way you could have watched him plau for more than 15 games and say that he is anything but below average defesnively. "Hey, there's a ball hit 2 feet to my right. I think I'm going to unneccessarily drop to my knees and field it because I have plenty of time with my rocket arm. Wait, he was safe? How is that possible?" Yes, I'm sure if you searched you'd find me talking about how limited Theriot's range appears to be, or how weak his arm is. However, PMR is nothing to scoff at, and I'm definitely willing to reconsider that Theriot isn't as bad a defender as he appears(just like Adam Dunn isn't as bad a hitter as he appears when he looks really bad swinging and missing).

  22. It won't be as big a deal in the SEC, but I'd be interested to see how Monte would approach the more varied college offenses.
  23. Apologies for bumping this, but I had another thought about this that didn't necessitate a new thread. What about Rocco Baldelli? He won't be drawing a ton of interest with his health condition, and a 3 headed monster of Fontenot, DeRosa, and Baldelli for 2B and RF could ensure that he stays healthy and doesn't wear down.
