To be fair, Davidson only scored 78, the same they scored against Oklahoma and only 2 more than their low for the season. He wasn't too far off when he said that the problem was that they only scored 48 points.
"Hypothetical" budget? Seems pretty real to me. Hypothetical in the sense that we don't know exactly where it is. There have been scenarios thrown about like "if Hendry has X million dollars to spend", and we don't know if it's at X or lower or higher.
When I go to pick up my sister from college I can get 670 on the way there. Did anyone else hear the temper tantrum one of the talking heads went on after they had Tommie Harris on and he gave some stock answers while at a charity gig? It was hilarious to hear and pathetic on the host's part.
If Hendry let Wood go in order to avoid insulting him, he's a bigger idiot than anybody every claimed he was. Come on, don't nitpick the choice of words. Hendry knows/thinks Wood was going to get a long term deal, and since they weren't going to give him a long term deal, they aren't pursuing him, a fan favorite coming off a great year. With that level of certainty in Hendry's mind, I find it hard to believe he avoids offering arbitration on the chance Wood needs to come back to the Cubs for a one year deal breaking a hypothetical budget he's under.
If Hendry let Wood go partially because he didn't want to insult Kerry with a short term deal, I'd imagine he thinks the odds of Kerry needing to accept arbitration are pretty low.
It depends on who you talk to. Some say 26-29, others 28-31/32, others still 27-32, etc. As it relates to the original statement, Ramirez is definitely not just entering his prime, especially with how consistent he's been.
I think that's referring more to how they handle RF than anything else. If they don't get an upgrade, DeRosa stands to play there quite a bit, freeing up more time for Fontenot at 2B. If they land someone like Hermida or Bradley, then Fontenot would need to take some reps at SS in order to get similar or increased playing time.
The Big 12 has all 3 finalists for the O'Brien(Harrell, McCoy, Bradford), the Biletnikoff(Crabtree, Maclin, Bryant), and the Mackey(Coffman, Gresham, Pettigrew). I'd give them to McCoy, Crabtree, and Coffman myself.
If Fontenot can even be slightly below average defensively at short, a Fontenot/Theriot platoon at SS would be tremendous. That would bring the offense around where it was last year, and any type of upgrade in RF would make the offense even more potent.
What's the story behind his last 1200 PA's then? 2006 certainly looks like an aberration, with a BABIP much higher than expected(although his LD% has improved), and a HR/F rate much higher than any other point in his career.
I read something online that extrapolated a bit on Herbstreit's "defense" of Notre Dame when he said "that's just who they are". Essentially, this year shouldn't be viewed as some cataclysmic disaster, but rather the low end of lowered expectations from a decade and a half of being an average program. Here's the actual quote itself from Dr. Saturday on Yahoo.
It really doesn't bother you? Not only was Snyder fielding awful teams by the end of his tenure, but he's about 70 years old and hasn't coached in 4 years. Furthermore, how is he going to recruit any talent there knowing that he's just a placeholder coach? With all the JUCO's they have leaving after next year they might have a 30 man roster in 2010.
Ahh, that's what happened to Derozan against Seton Hall. That makes a lot more sense, because there really wasn't any contact or abnormal landing on the play he hurt himself on. He was having a strong game too.
OU is gonna kill them. Getting Gibson in foul trouble was huge for Mizzou, since in the early going he was grabbing offensive rebounds all over the place. Griffin should be able to do that much better than any of Mizzou's bigs, and if DeRozan is still out(he went down with a knee injury midway through the 2nd half) it'll be even easier. Of course, you could be talking about OU killing Mizzou, and that is likely just as true. It may be worth the attempt to see if Griffin can wear himself out scoring every possession.
It means a little less after Seton Hall knocked them off Thursday, but still nice to see Mizzou beat #20 USC, 83-72. DeMarre Carroll had a career day with 29 and 9. Mizzou's defensive pressure just caused USC to unravel down the stretch.
oh yeah they did Yes, I can vouch for this. The Ramirez/Lofton trade was met with a lot of mixed emotions and the overall tone at the time was negative. The Lofton part of the trade excited me at the time. I sure don't remember any mixed emotions. It seems to me that everyone (including the writers) thought that the Cubs were the big winners in the deal. This is right. Everyone thought the Cubs got a good deal, but some were simultaneously upset at what had become of the 2B situation(Hill never getting a legitimate shot). No one thought "I can't believe we're giving up Bobby Hill for just Ramirez and Lofton".
