We have Marshall, Gorzelanny, and Gaub, plus Fossum, Lambert, Russell, and Papelbon are all degrees of non-terrible. There's no need for Grabow to be making millions of dollars, especially when there's a pretty good chance he'd be at best the 3rd best LH in the organization.

Why would the Mariners want to do that? It would make zero sense for them. It's not going to happen. They could reason that 3-4 years of Z is better than 2 of Felix. There's already talk they may want to pre-emptively shop him because they aren't going to be able to keep him. Getting a player of Zambrano's caliber would definitely soften the PR blow of trading your best pitcher.

That's some really, really bad logic. Also, (paraphrased) "the Cubs have an aging core, so trade away anyone with a contract and anyone who is good now to get 150 prospects" is really bad logic. You make those steps incrementally, hopefully it starts with development(Soto, Theriot, and Fontenot all falling on their face to different extents doesn't help), but finding undervalued younger players like they did with Ramirez and Barrett is another way to go about it. Players like Jose Reyes, BJ Upton, Jeremy Hermida, Alex Gordon, etc. might be available for far less than their future value this offseason. Not everyone can afford to make those type of moves or is smart enough to do so, and a guy in Hendry's position can't afford to rule out what could be an easy way to make the team better, cheaper, and younger.

I thought all USA needed to clinch a spot was a draw in either of the next 2 games. A draw would put the USA at 17 points, and Costa Rica has 12 points, so if they won their last 2 and USA drew and lost, and Mexico and Honduras both end up with more than 17 points (Mexico has 15, Honduras 13), then USA would still finish 4th. If USA draws to finish with 17, and Costa Rica fails to win 1 of their 2 last games, the most points they can end up with is 16. The US ends with Honduras and Costa Rica. If they draw CR then CR can't get to 17, and if they draw Honduras the most Honduras can get is 17. So they guarantee at least a tie with a draw.

How is that a good deal for the Mets? Doing a quick look at WAR, Reyes is slightly more valuable than the two of them, but they'd have Theriot for 2010-2012 while Lilly and Reyes are both free agents at the end of 2010. Plus part of the idea rests on the irrationality of the Mets/Minaya needing to make a move/dump the scapegoats after their terrible 2009.

That's obviously something they want to check out before hand with doctors and specialist and such, but since he had the surgery done I think he'll get back to 100%, especially considering his age. As far as package goes, that depends on the Mets. I doubt that Minaya tries to sell him off for strictly non-major leaguers, so you could see guys like Lilly, Dempster, Bradley, or obviously Theriot involved, and prospects above A ball like Cashner, Jackson, and Castro could be included as well. Personally, I'd try to sell high with Lilly and see if he and Theriot could get us most of the way to Reyes. Great so we upgrade at SS, lose our most consistent pitcher, send some very good prospects, and still don't have a 2B. If we don't re-sign Harden and trade Lilly, there goes our rotation strength. Moves aren't made in a vacuum. Something like a Reyes deal wouldn't go down until well after the arbitration deadline, when there's a much better idea of what Harden's future is with the Cubs. And I didn't say Lilly/Theriot/multiple top prospects for Reyes. I said to see if Lilly and Theriot gets us most of the way to Reyes, where you only need to add someone like Casey Coleman. And yes, to upgrade from Theriot to Reyes, I would gladly weaken the rotation by giving up Lilly and his potential free agency.

He's a shortstop, when you OPS around .800 and steal SIXTY bases a year with good defense at SS, you're a superstar. And like I mentioned, there are reasons to believe he wouldn't have an enormous player cost.

~.815 OPS for the 3 years prior to his injury plus 60 steals and good defense at the most important defensive position. He's 26 years old, and he'll be cheaper in player cost because of his injury, potential free agency, and unrest from his current team after their disastrous season. Even if he only puts up a .770 OPS(please stop quoting his career numbers that equally weight his struggles at age 20-22), he's still extremely valuable with his steals and defense.

Why didn't they just take a knee? They took over with under 3:30, ran three plays to get a first down, and then ran 3 more to get in the endzone. It was unnecessary and classless to keep trying to gain yards after they got the first down.

ESPN360 keeps freezing at the end of the NASCAR commercial. As if the NASCAR commercial wasn't enough. Now it's playing the NASCAR commercial for the 3rd time in a row.

700 to 800 jumpers a day seems like a lot. I don't really think it is. With the machine automating ball-retrieval, you can probably get up 10 shots a minute if you want to, and 700-800 easily in under 2 hours.

I'm gonna guess that these aren't SEC refs in the Memphis-Ole Miss game.
