  1. He handled it fine. In your opinion, and in our opinion he didnt. You have a ridiculous opinion. A repeat a-hole got suspended toward the end of a wasted season. BIG FREAKING DEAL. Jim doesn't want to talk about it with the media anymore. BIG FREAKING DEAL. As Sheehan pointed out a couple days ago, suspending a player for negative comments to the media is pretty much unprecedented. He used the line that the last non-drug suspension of this length was when Albert Belle attacked a heckler.
  2. Looking at Brooks Baseball's Pitch f/x tool, he averaged 95 on the fastball last night, 93 a couple nights ago, and around 90-91 the remainder of his outings.
  3. The Kansas football and basketball teams are apparently involved in their own version of West Side Story. They've fought each other twice in the last 24 hours.
  4. I don't think the guy was trying to say all of them were 4* players, but more that depending on how you feel, any one of those guys could be considered Top 100/4* players.
  5. So we trade Bradley for Wood and pay both of their contracts? That sounds nightmarish. I mentioned it in the other thread, but I wonder if: 1) Dayton Moore is desperate enough to dump Jose Guillen that we could trade his contract for Bradley's 2) Dayton Moore is fed up enough with Alex Gordon to trade him 3) the Cubs could take advantage of 1) and 2)
  6. You know who is really good at baseball? Mike Cameron. He's been good for an .800 OPS and plus defense in CF for 5 of the last 6 years. Obviously you don't want to do anything stupid like give him Ted Lilly's deal, but it's far from bad news that Hendry would be interested.
  7. So his premise is that the difference in DeRosa + Edmonds v. Bradley is enough to be able to pay Peavy? Even leaving that aside, Edmonds is done professionally, odds of him being any better than Fontenot(especially when you include defense) are not good. Bradley and DeRosa have been equals this year, and the rotation has been fantastic without Peavy, who would've required a ransom of players and missed a ton of regular season time. Buster was wrong.
  8. Zambrano is an outlier with pitcher hitting. I think the point would not be to try and pinpoint hitter contributions to the decimal point in value for everyone, but to recognize that Zambrano definitely adds value with the bat. A couple years ago he was worth a couple million dollars for his hitting compared to other position players, so I think you definitely have to account for his hitting when getting an accurate picture of his value.
  9. He's probably not playing because he needs catcher's gear to play LF for his own safety.
  10. i agree with a lot of his points, but the piling on by his teammates is pretty damning, and joe didn't touch on that at all. I think the only thing that was damning was Dempster's comments. The rest were pretty tame and expected considering they were talking about a guy who was just punished by their boss. Were they supposed to say, "man Hendry's a [expletive] idiot" And it was put together by Sullivan.
  11. Bradley and Theriot for Guillen and Gordon. Gordon would probably be a touch below average at 2B until Ramirez leaves, because Von Joshua turns him into a monster(hinge of the deal). Soriano/Guillen/Kosuke/Fuld/Johnson(or similar player if you don't want to pay him) are the 5 outfielders. Pick the best 3 for a given day, there's probably enough value to conjure up something non-terrible. Push hard after Reyes or other worthwhile SS trade options(Hardy), Scutaro would also be a good FA option. Defense is a big priority. Fukudome Fuld/Johnson Lee Ramirez Gordon Soriano Soto SS I'm not sure how much I like it, but it's a thought.
  12. I don't think Fox's bat is enough of a sure thing to make up for his nightmarish defense. As a RH hitter, he won't get as many PH opportunities either to mitigate that defense either. I'd like to trade him to the AL, maybe for a bullpen arm, maybe for someone who's a better fit for our bench, or both.
  13. I do not appreciate your slander, good sir.
  14. I'm not one of the massive DeRosa fanboys, but I think this is disingenuous. DeRo's been derailed by a wrist injury and that's still better than Bradley relative to their positions. Before his injury, DeRo was having another great year. He was hitting .261/.334/.443/.777 when he got hurt, with a .250/.330/.440/.770 line over the month prior to his injury.
  15. DL him. Forcing a guy onto the DL when he doesn't need to go on the DL is the same thing as suspending him. You think other front offices will be fooled by such a move? He missed the previous couple games with an injury, that started with Bradley himself taking himself out of the game. He's legitimately hurt, and DLing him serves as a de facto suspension(because he could've played after like a week of rest), while still being an entirely plausible explanation("Milton's hurt, we want to make sure he doesn't aggravate his surgically repaired knees to make sure he's ready for next season, etc."). Plus it opens up the flexibility of his option not yet being guaranteed.
  16. Can you spot the 2 NBA players? http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/174311/31119318-1ce6d5df29d68bc5d7b6776191384219.4ab6d583-scaled.jpg
  17. Is it even a given he'd get an extra year of eligibility? He already played in ~20% of the season before the injury.
  18. UZR, PMR, and BP's FRAA all agree that Hawpe is a horrendous defensive RF. At least 10 runs below average, maybe as many as 20.
  19. He didn't even have to stay away from the whole media. Sullivan's been crusading against him all year long since he admitted he had it out for him before the season even started.
  20. He won't get anything now that he suspended him. He wasn't going to get anything if he didn't suspend him. It's his 6th team in 7 years and there already were probably a fair number of teams that wouldn't touch him because of his rep. Everything that went on this year was well known around baseball and with his lack of production and contract, he has almost no trade value. I don't see it that way. There's a huge difference between a guy talking about being unhappy(making it more likely he gets traded) and his general manager suspending him for 10% of the season.
  21. Why does anyone care whether Bradley blames himself, his teammates, the fans, the media, or dinosaurs for what happens? It doesn't matter, and he's been one of the most vocal guys blaming himself for his own shortcomings. His problem came when he started hitting and people still came after him at every turn. But because he's crazy he communicates frustration at that in the worst way possible and people hate him still. Bradley got off to a horrible start, and straightened himself out to have an okay season. That's all that matters. But because Paul Sullivan and a bunch of fans can't come off the "Bradley is a crazy headcase who molests collies" angle, that is apparently irrelevant.
  22. I'm not sure I buy this as a business decision. Are people really going to stay away from Wrigley if Bradley is on the team next year?
  23. So they could've just DLed him with the legitimate knee injury he has and potentially had more flexibility if he was hurt in the spring? What a colossal failure this whole situation has been. Bradley being himself(not a compliment), idiot media and fans making him a villain, and then Hendry not having enough wherewithal to know that most media and fans are idiots. You didn't even have to keep him, but now you have to give him away because the situation spiraled out of control. Really, really, really, really dumb.
  24. Way to bend yourself over for the offseason, Jim. Milton Bradley isn't the most personable person in the world. He had a very bad start to this season. As a result, the media and fans were able to dictate what happened to him. Considering the majority of baseball/Cubs fans and Chicago media, what a frightening development this is.
