  1. Trade him to an AL team for a bullpen arm.
  2. Even if the Cardinals don't raise the payroll, they have the money to keep who they want. The problem comes if someone decides Holliday is worth 5/100 and the Cards are left with much less attractive choices with all their found money.
  3. Chris Rusin at Boise: 26 IP, 25/7 K/BB, 1 HR, 51% GB%(before tonight's 8-1 GO-AO), 8.1% LD%(before tonight), and yet a 4.15 ERA.
  4. My first thought with the restricted list was a family illness.
  5. oh hey, nobody ever said he wouldn't I probably did. Holliday's insane first month with the Cards aside, I still think he's about an .850 OPS guy.
  6. I don't understand why you'd try to forecast HR or RBI. As long as the actual production is there ratio-wise, those numbers aren't that important(unless it's an extreme case where he's got like 2 HR thru August, RBI still don't matter).
  7. I bet the Marlins. Heilman absolutely tortures them for some reason.
  8. I'm really amused that Gameday has twice told me that Morgan left the game with an injured wrist, during a half inning that has gone HBP, bunt foul out, HBP.
  9. Holliday is 30 next year, a Boras client, and currently playing way, way above his true talent level in his contract year. Bringing him back(again, Boras client who's been with the team for a month) will be much like similar Cubs moves of recent past. He'll keep them from dropping off in the short term, but hamstring them long-term.
  10. Gaub is absolutely incinerating hitters this year. His BAA against righties in Iowa is .086.
  11. You can't just gloss over that Castro is hitting like 70 points higher with a much better K rate in the low minors. It's what sunk Cedeno, and Castro is already much, much better at it, all the while 2 years younger than Cedeno was at those levels.
  12. You leave Phil Rogers out of this.
  13. Yeah, my understanding has always been that Kenney was on the business/marketing/PR side of the coin. I don't think him staying would preclude Ricketts bringing in someone like Alderson either, as was mentioned in the other thread.
  14. Haha, no chance they'd lose a game they'd find a way to go 11-0 I understand this is enjoyable or a release for some, and I don't want to presume to tell people how to post. Just understand that the tongue-in-cheek exaggerations about the Cardinals doing well or the Cubs doing poorly are extremely irritating to many people, especially with how often they are seen in various forums.
  15. I personally think this is a great idea! Way to go NC. I'm not sure why more teams don't do that. Can someone find out what percentage the Cubs would have to pay if they released him by the first deadline? I looked but couldn't find it. I assume Gregg would get around $4,000,000 in arbitration. A first round pick and a compensation pick seem to be worth a million dollar risk to me. (Of course, it's not my money!) It also could end up a 2nd or 3rd rounder depending on how many FA's that team signs. Gregg's getting 4.2M this year, he'll make at least 5 in arbitration.
  16. I'm struggling to come up with anything the White Sox front office does better than the Cubs.
  17. With a much better minor league pedigree and a proven ability to hit for average, mitigating his chances for a Cedeno-esque flop.
  18. Castro has a .072 IsoD in AA.
  19. My blinding hatred obligates me to point out that Giambi was safe.
  20. Tipping pitches is a line used quite a bit by the Cardinals to explain poor or improved performance.
  21. This assumes that Rose acted completely on his own in getting someone to take the SAT for him. More likely, Calipari at best knew about it and at the worst orchestrated it. The point still remains that the NCAA cleared him to play for Memphis. What is Memphis supposed to do? Hold it's own investigation into whether he actually took the SAT on his own? No, they should either stop Rose from cheating when they know about it, or they should stop cheating for Rose themselves.
  22. This assumes that Rose acted completely on his own in getting someone to take the SAT for him. More likely, Calipari at best knew about it and at the worst orchestrated it.
  23. He'd make about 3M in arbitration, that seems like a pretty big risk, especially when he'd be more likely to accept on the heels of last offseason with guys like Cruz going unsigned.
  24. Castro's last 11 games: 40 PA's, .400/.543/.486, 5/3 BB/K
