  1. Not really, I'm just glad that he's not binding himself to preseason reputations. Not that it's a model ballot, I pointed out 2 inconsistencies alone in my last post, but I'd rather err on that side than the one that doesn't keep [Traditionally good Team A] in the Top 10 at the end of the year because they were there to start the year.
  2. holy crap that guy was either drunk or is a complete idiot. That doesn't look terrible to me, it's just a different approach. If you beat power conference teams(or in FSU's case, Miami), you get rewarded. It's not universally consistent(like most ballots), but it's not so different than some of the blogpoll ballots that use that approach. if florida played houston they'd win by 30. ole miss at 24? usc 25, oklahoma 22? none of these make any sense. That's not what the polls are supposed to show. Houston played the better schedule with the same results, Florida will rise over them because they play much better opponents than Houston going forward. Ole Miss is down there because they haven't played anyone(a little inconsistent with Penn St being so high), USC and OU are down there because they lost(USC is inconsistent because they won @OSU). Looks to me like the guy values wins, and wins against power conference teams.
  3. I have Chris Johnson in both my leagues and he's beating my opponents by himself.

  5. Mizzou stays at 26 in the AP and moves up to 21 in the coaches after thrashing mighty Furman. Hopefully they can avoid slipping up at Nevada on Friday night, because there will be plenty of chances to move up the polls after that(Nebraska, @ Oklahoma St., Texas in consecutive weeks).
  6. I've only seen about 4 games he's head coached and I've already seen him lose his cool more times than the rest of the coaches I've seen combined. When his team doesn't perform well he takes it with the grace of a 5 year old.
  7. Leach is rightfully upset that the officials blew the last play of the first half dead when Potts didn't come close to taking a knee. Still, isn't it common for coaches to let officials in on potential trick plays like that prior to the game? It seems like Leach could've communicated better with the officials at some point to avoid that.
  8. Not a good week for the MWC. Utah loses at Oregon, BYU getting torched at home by Florida State, and TCU is struggling with Texas State at home.
  9. Holy smokes what a catch by that Arkansas wideout.
  10. That 2007 thread was awesome.
  11. Antonio Gates v. Baltimore or Chris Cooley v. St. Louis?
  12. I have a hard time believing Baskett can't climb over Garcon and Collie on the depth chart.
  13. Didn't Missouri hang a banner at their stadium for spending a week at #1? This is either really bad information, a worse joke, or both.
  14. I was referencing his offensive numbers only when I said top 4-5 centerfielder. I know the metrics aren't crazy about him, but I don't know exactly how much his defense has hurt his value - though I wouldn't imagine that much. Kosuke is 13th among qualified CFs in wOBA. Link
  15. Until recently it was a pretty excellent year for him. It was a good year, certainly a nice rebound from his 2008, but I wouldnt call it excellent, especially considering his expectations when first coming over. I'd say a top 4-5 center fielder in all of baseball is pretty excellent. Kosuke has been fine this year, but he's closer to 10th than 5th, maybe even on the other side of 10 depending on how much weight you give to defensive metrics.
  16. Zambrano's only between -5 and 0 runs above average as a hitter when you compare him to position players. Stupid BTBS and USS Mariner's graphs are gone from their good articles about pitcher hitting from a while back. Odds are Z's about even on his contract. Not that he's extremely likely to be worth the contract, but he's been a lot more valuable than many assume, and he's not so much worse than his deal that trading his salary on a high ceiling flyer would be a wise decision at all.
  17. This is what I'm thinking, if you're gonna dream, dream big. They could be 4 GB and 3 in the loss column by the end of the weekend in the DIVISION.
  18. DeRosa needs wrist surgery in the offseason. Stay away from him.
  19. I don't know that there's anything to Marshall's struggles being attributed to fatigue, but last year through June he had thrown 20 innings for the Cubs. This year through June, he had thrown 54 innings for the Cubs. In 2008 Marshall threw 32.1 IP for Iowa through June. He didn't go down this year. His workload was the same.
  20. And yet he still has a better WHIP and K/BB than Grabow. Sean Marshall having a crummy August doesn't change the fact that he's better than John Grabow.
  21. For the unaware, SBNation is a conglomeration of sports team blogs. They've recently come up with a new frontpage, www.sbnation.com, that I think is just an awesome way to keep up with top stories in the world of sports. There's also some nice integration with SBNation blogs(like game threads with boxscores and the like), which is disappointing as a Cubs fan because Bleed Cubbie Blue is the SBNation Cubs blog. But if you find yourself annoyed by using places like ESPN or the like to catch up with sports news, I think this is a very nice alternative. Hopefully they offer some level of customization with the front page in the future, which would make it even better.
  22. I'm going to get Chiefs/Raiders, Rams/Redskins, and Browns/Broncos(instead of Bears/Steelers) on TV this week. Unbelievable.
  23. Marshall is a good pitcher, and if he's a reliever, his durability is pretty much a non-issue. He's better than Grabow. Gorzelanny is much the same way. Gaub isn't on the big league club because he's not on the 40 man roster. There's no need to add him now and start all the option clock stuff so he could throw 5 innings this month. I mention Fossum, Russell, and Papelbon to point out that there are mediocre options available in the minor leagues, so having Gaub on the MLB roster doesn't hurt our ability to taxi relievers to and from Iowa, or to compensate for a minor injury.
