1. As long as we've had Happ, he's looked like someone I knew. Now it finally clicked: RIP
2. I enjoyed seeing Bryce lay the smack down on his old team last night. The TRAITOR stuff was beyond hilar.
3. July 8, the first day of the All star break.
4. Checks out, "Mark Zagunis" sounds like a Y-league rec player.
5. That's not a bad meme considering the offseason and early start to the season, but a good/better offense can help you overcome pitching woes.
6. Down 10 Like they’re ever going to be down by 10. I do love that 1-0 optimism!
7. Give Javy the whole club, stadium, city, state country and my heart.
8. horsefeathering Yeli is good. I hope we don't throw him a strike all season.
9. Back to back jacks for the deadbirds.
10. Man I am usually so excited about the season starting. I am so meh on this years Cubs team, Mark Zagunis AYFKM? Way to slam the window of contention shut, guys. A total debacle over the past year or so. I am excited to see Javy do Javy stuff though.
11. The $184 million pep talk. TBF he timed it well!
12. Well whatever. If I was a cardinals fan this news would have me very happy. Sure beats our big twin offseason moves of becoming the official MAGA MLB club and signing Daniel Desalsaco.
13. I can't tell if this is cheap, desperate or brilliant. Maybe a bit of all 3? If they play the service time game he wouldn't be a free agent until after 2025, no?
14. I feel so out on the cubs right now. I hope they do get him and he shoves. I think we are in for a rough year.
15. He definitely looks like he could use a few "load management" games off. I get that they're trying to establish a culture (ha!) but the focus should be making sure the important players finish the season in one piece. I'd also give Zach some time off too. Hope they can finish strong in the Zion race.
16. That ship kind of sailed once they traded for Porter. I think their lack of confidence in FA was even a reason given as to why they made the trade, knowing Porters big cap number. Theyll have some cap room one of the next two seasons, but not max room. They might have cap space the season after, but it will be potentially tricky with cap holds. Edit--Actually they can probably have max space in 2020 if they don't commit much in the way of 2019 FA dollars. That's the AD class. More big names available this summer if they all exercise opt outs. But AD is basically the most likely name to move via trade, so if he was the guy available via trade, just trade for him, rather than wait for FA. Then they can also use this year's space to add pieces and be more appealing to retain AD. I just don't want them to trade any of the players that are worth trading. To get a star, they'd have to deal some combo of Lauri, WCJ or Lavine and I don't want them to do that. I'd be ok trading Lavine by himself but not sure what that would accomplish at this point, depending on the return which would be a star. The draft lottery is so key for them.
17. I'd rather they sign an all star vs. trade for one. Somehow they need to get a good point guard.
18. And regarding that Silvy pole, our fans are idiots. 73% of them, anyway.
19. I think he's going to regret not having any opt outs.
20. He's going to hate it there. Maybe we can trade for him in a year or two.
