  1. I'd assume there's a good chance he'd just go back to Japan during the offseason.
  2. What a game.
  3. If I were an Iowa fan I'd be sick over that loss. A golden opportunity to add a signature win, garner national respect and add to their tournament resume (they will make the tournament, but this game would have been a nice feather to have come seeding time). It's hard to win in Madison, but after that first half, I'd call that loss pretty inexcusable, and McCaffery has to wear a lot of that.
  4. No, the missed layups didn't help. But Dekker was a no show, Wisky was missing FTs and the game really was pretty evenly officiated. The way you guys were giving them fits with your length, this is a game you absolutely should have won, being up 11 at the half.
  5. From where I'm sitting, Fran cost you this game.
  6. Dekker finally decided to show up.
  7. Man, is Jared Uthoff ugly. Like Sam Cassell-level ugly.
  8. If Iowa loses this game, it's going to hard not place a lot of the blame on Fran McCaffery. Some calls went against Iowa, but they got more than a few calls themselves. There was no reason for him to lose his [expletive] like that.
  9. What has AJ McCarron done for the SEC? Quarterbacked two national championship teams? Carried himself as a role model? Snagged Katherine Webb? You said it yourself, he's a game manager. Any number of QBs could have quarterbacked those teams to national championships. McCarron didn't do squat for the SEC, Saban did.
  10. I see Iowa finishing 3rd or 4th, but there's enough there that if I were an Iowa fan, I could talk myself into believing that they could win the conference without feeling like a total homer. I think that the upcoming game at Wisconsin will be telling. I think they'll lose by a fair margin, but if they win, or keep it really close, that bodes well.
  11. I don't think there can be any doubt about that, unless you consider NASCAR a sport. But I think one informs the other; the pundits write dumb meatball-ish crap because most of the fans/readers/listeners are dumb meatballs.
  12. If the Bears don't get a stop here, I think they lose.
  13. Yeah, but Clarkson's shot really is hideous. Seemed to work, though.
  14. don't see us winning out in the elite SEC. enjoy your 10 seed. I think you're as good as anyone not named Kentucky or Florida. I'm not sure right now you wouldn't beat Kentucky, obviously they could improve a lot by the time you play. I think we were very lucky to get this one. And I don't think I'd call the SEC "elite". Top heavy, but certainly not elite. Mizzou should win a lot of games.
  15. That game was rough (though the outcome was good). Also, I think I might fear for my physical well-being if I ever watched an Illini game with you, sulley. I can only imagine what your family has to deal with, lol.
  16. It's a matter of prioritizing the bulk of the limited funds for players they feel it is prudent to pursue. For example, if you can only afford Ellsbury or Tanaka, who would you rather have? I'm pretty sure I know who the FO would choose. I'm also pretty sure that if the funds were there to pursue both, they would have.
  17. If you say so. Are people still questioning this? It seems pretty implicit that it is true.
  18. Yeah, people have hated Carroll for a long, long time. It has little to do with Seattle.
  19. Actually saw this segment. They had the studio guys create a lineup for the D-Backs. Mitch went with this: Parra/Hill/Prado/Trumbo/Goldschmidt/Montero/Pollack/Didi Yeah, I was watching that as well, and had to rewind and watch it again because I thought I misheard him. Ex-player "experts" are worthless more often than not, but Wild Thing is always a special kind of stupid. Most of their other ex-players are far more tolerable.
  20. John F. Grabow. End of discussion. D'oh, forgot the worst one.
  21. I have no problem with Hawkins, my problem was always with how Baker used him. He had proven he couldn't close, and he wasn't signed to be a closer. Hawkins' problems closing games in 2004 was a function of Baker's bad managing. When I think of the bad contracts Hendry gave to relievers, I think of Eyre and Howry, though they didn't really go bad until their third years. But that just serves to illustrate the risk in giving more than a year or two to relievers. Hawkins was never really terrible (or even bad, statistically), and he was gone after a year and a half.
  22. Ruggiano should be a good RH platoon partner. I like it, especially for the cost.
  23. On a semi-related note, I haven't watched BBTN since I got MLB Network, and I so don't miss it.
