  1. Call me crazy, but I'm buying it. I think we might actually get something out of him, at least it's orders of magnitude more likely than BJax turning it around, imo. And Wittenmyer isn't exactly known for his fluff pieces.
  2. The I-Cubs aren't making a trip to Albuquerque this year, which pisses me off. But they are going to Colorado Springs in April, and I'm considering making the trip, depending on the roster. Could see a lot of offensive fireworks.
  3. I just don't see it with Bryant, but it seems Almora has enough for the both of them.
  4. Being emotionally invested in something that doesn't have a tangible effect on your life and that you have absolutely no control over is not the least bit rational. It's best not to think about it too much or you'll start to feel really foolish. Of course one could consider being a Cubs fan a lifelong character building exercise, so there's that.
  5. In for a Theo statue as big as that creepy man with fish statue from the Shedd Aquarium Bigger. And with some pillories at the base where Murphy, Tunney and the other self-important obstructionist scum can be locked and pelted with rotten food.
  6. I really think all teams have equally whiny cores to their fan bases. It's just the nature of the beast; fans are invariably predisposed to whine about outside forces influencing their team's failures as opposed to accepting that their team may not be great or have been "the better team" on a given day. But being in the middle of a fanbase's home, especially, if it's not a team you're a fan of, makes this seem more pronounced. I grew up about 15 minutes outside of Iowa City, and part of me will always feel that Iowa Hawkeyes fans are the whiniest, most self-deluded fans on the planet (outside of Cardinals fans, of course). But I suspect I would feel the same about other non-Illinois schools had I lived in the epicenter of their fandoms.
  7. The refs have learned that Illini fans are the whiniest bitches on earth and have (correctly) decided that you don't deserve to win Good one. Nailed it. He already thinks the refs are out to get him, might as well give him a reason for it He thinks the universe is out to get him and everything he loves. He needs no reason because he's clinically insane.
  8. can't wait until they graduate I can't wait until Tracy Abrams graduates.
  9. Not surprising. I thought we'd fall somewhere between 6-12 and 8-10 (best case). Lost a couple we shouldn't have, and here we are. This was never going to be a good year. That said, enjoy having the Illini to kick around while it lasts.
  10. It's pretty nice that at some point this year, all of the big 4 should be above AA. Finally. I'd be shocked but it would be awesome if they deemed Almora ready to start this year in Tennessee. And of course, this year Iowa doesn't travel to Albuquerque.
  11. Let's hope they don't crash at midway, too. Unconventional landing. It made getting onto Cicero that much easier. Tim did not have a Time-Life Mysteries of the Unknown premonition. Man, I totally forgot about those books. I wanted them when I was a kid.
  12. The Papa John's in my area is not bad at all. Pizza Hut is [expletive] terrible and if you can believe we don't even have a Dominos anywhere within 20 miles from where I live. Luckily there's a mom and pop pizza place a mile from me that serves quality [expletive]. there's some good pizza in tulsa, but nothing close to us. hilariously there is a "chicago-style" pizza place a couple miles away that i've yet to try I guarantee it's terrible. Every time I've had it outside of Chicago it's been a dried out mess I've had a few outside of Chicago that were good, but by and large I think you're right.
  13. No one is bending over to shield Epstein from criticism. If the money isn't there, and every indication is that the Rickettses are not ripe with cash, what are you going to do? Unless you think Theo has all the money he wants and is simply choosing not to spend it, in which case I'd tend to think you were crazy. No one knows what is going on "unequivocally", but there is a crapton of circumstantial evidence that there isn't a lot of money available.
  14. The sad fact of the matter is that there are still millions of racist pieces of [expletive] in this country, and many of them attend sporting events. Should racism be accepted? Absolutely not. But opposing racism shouldn't entail athletes attacking fans who use racial slurs, especially when the verbal assault is intended to rile the player up. It's been said before, but if players went after every POS scumbag who dropped an epithet, it'd be chaos. If the guy really used a racial slur, I'd like to have seen Smart lay the guy out. But that isn't solving the problem. If the fan really is racist, I'll bet he's feeling a lot better about what happened than he would have had Smart done nothing. What would be better is for there to be a zero tolerance rule about using such language, where fans are ejected and banned from attending future games. Players attacking fans just feeds into it.
  15. The 100 year logo looks like it's made of rubber/plastic. I'd like it a lot more if it were embroidered.
  16. They're sad because his uncle is pedobear
  17. Well, good for Seattle, the Seahawks and everyone involved with them not named Pete Carroll.
  18. That was a hell of a catch.
  19. I really resent ads that try and leverage nationalism instead of the quality of the product.
  20. checking the expiration date helps No, they actually had an issue with it I know, I was joking. But I had that problem with maybe 1 in 10 of those that I bought.
  21. checking the expiration date helps
  22. I was going to click that link, but then I thought it might be more enjoyable to stuff a rabid badger in my pants.
  23. Absolutely. I don't think it will, though, and that's a shame.
  24. The first half was a real dichotomy, but the second half was some of the best basketball I've seen in a while. Which surprises me because Illinois has just been awful lately. Prior to the game I had this filed in the loss column, and was not expecting a close contest. I expect that the next couple years (following this one, which is an ugly transition year for us) will see Iowa and Illinois playing a lot of close and meaningful games for the first time in a long while. I'm not sure how I feel about that.
