  1. Alyssa definitely won over the long haul in this one. Tatyana Alllllliiiiiiiiiiiiiii.
  2. If he maintains this rate, it'd be the lowest of his career. His LD% is also a few points above his previous career best. He's hit into some bad luck over the past several games, too. No idea if he can maintain any of this, but it's encouraging.
  3. On some level, I'm sure he feels the same way.
  4. He was probably talking about when Jackson was good. He actually struck out less in AA than Bryant is now while carrying a wOBA in the .370s. The striking out of Bryant and Baez is some scary stuff. Bryant is at 27%. BJax hasn't been that low in years. And Bryant's offensive profile is going to help him make up for K'ing 30% of the time much more than Jackson's has for him (Bryant is carrying a .451 wOBA, and was in the .490s last year). You'd absolutely like him to K less, but it's not setting off any serious alarm bells, imo.
  5. SSS, but BJax's K% this year is 47%. And he's not doing anything in the PAs he's no striking out, either. Bryant is. It seems like Bryant is a guy who is going to K quite a bit, but if he can OPS .900, it'll be just fine.
  6. Yes, I would be. I think he'll be fine but this start should for sure be something to worry about. This isn't his first slow start, and he's had little injuries to deal with this time. If it carries on into mid-late May, then I'll start to get worried.
  7. This whole thing is [expletive] ridiculous. To require a man who is arguably the best player in the history of the franchise to prostrate himself in front of the meatball fandom and an ownership who wasn't even there when he was a player over what was at least in part a smear job by the organization is just preposterous. No one would be mad at him if they weren't being told there is something to be mad at him about. In the grand scheme it doesn't make much difference, but this production is just asinine.
  8. Yeah, obviously it's a small sample size, but seeing Rizzo getting on base and abusing LHP is definitely nice. I'd feel a lot better about Shark if he wasn't squarely on the block, though.
  9. To this point, to grab potential impact position players, which we kind of needed. I suspect we'll see a departure from that this June, though.
  10. It hit 2B bag and bounced to right field. Of course it did.
  11. K and gidp, please. This needs not to get to Goldschmidt.
  12. What? Why? Yeah, while he hasn't been a star by any stretch, he's been worth what they're paying him, for sure. It's not like he's making $20MM a year. Maybe he thinks Beane feels he could have gotten more than 5 WAR out of the 18MM they've paid him so far. He might be right, but it's probably not something that's haunted him thus far.
  13. Gomez was already freaking out well before Snider got anywhere in his vicinity, he pretty much was as soon as Cole turned his back on him. If Gomez didn't start back towards Cole while yelling at him, none of the rest of it happens. I don't care that he cadillac-ed out of the box, or admired his non-home run. But the guy clearly has issues. Players jaw at each other over this kind of [expletive] all the time, and very few react like Carlos Gomez when it happens. It's not all the fault of hypersensitive unwritten rules freaks that Gomez keeps ending up in the middle of this sort of thing, though I'm sure the incident last year has earned him a rep (and deservedly so; as big a douche as McCann was in that thing, Gomez was being a total psycho) and a little extra attention from opponents. But we don't have to agree about this, and I'm not going to argue it any further.
  14. I am by no means a proponent of the "unwritten rules", nor do I have anything against arrogant, flashy players in general; I think a little bit of showboating is fun. But the reason I cannot stand Gomez is because he's a [expletive] spaz to boot. I cannot stand spazes. If he responded to these confrontations with a cocky, dismissive "what the [expletive] ever, I'll do what I want" attitude, that's would be cool. Losing your [expletive] is not cool.
  15. That's on cole and his unwritten rule whining. Partially, for sure. But no one loses their [expletive] mind when yelled at quite like Gomez.
  16. Carlos Gomez lost his [expletive] again. http://m.mlb.com/video/v32232541/milpit-benches-clear-after-gomez-triples-in-the-3rd
  17. Carlos Gomez is a lunatic.
  18. Yes, unless you consider 31 old. Whatever you call it, he was the pretty much the opposite of wildly inconsistent at the plate for the ten seasons prior to that. Prior to 2010, when his BB rate dropped and his K rate came up a tick, he was pretty much a model of consistency. The following years have been the most inconsistent of his career, by far.
  19. yeah, if we're getting an A-ball guy i'd rather just hold onto him on the off-chance we accidentally re-sign him or someone offers something better down the line. doubly so if we're going to stupidly try to limit ourselves to the teams that happen to have catcher prospects. Yeah, though one of the most depressing parts seems to be that Samardzija simply wants out no matter what because he recognizes the Everlasting Turd surrounding him. that's a very good point. he has a lot of reason to want out unless we not only pay properly but overpay, and that's unquestionably his right. he's given us the best years of his career and we've done [expletive] all with them. hopefully if that is the case, the front office recognizes it and ignores everything i've posted in this thread and trades him at the earliest opportunity. I have to imagine that if a player wants out (or at least has no intention of staying), that sentiment is communicated to the FO clearly by either the player or his agent. If Shark feels that way (and I fear that he does) and they know it, I would hope they're making a lot of phone calls.
  20. No, someone just caught him bumming for change on camera
  21. Injuries and poor plate discipline seem to be the most obvious answer. He swung at a lot of bad pitches and didn't make a lot of contact, and didn't take many walks. We'll probably see him again, though.
  22. Yeah, he still has the voice, but a good portion of the time he's completely lost. Not quite as bad as Harry Caray in his last few years, but not anywhere near what he used to be.
