  1. Let's not forget also how bad the Brewers were earlier this month, and that this recent winning trend has come largely at the expense of bad teams. If the Cubs and Cards weren't equally as bad in late May/early June, the Brew Crew would have certainly coughed up the division lead. There's no reason to think such a bad stretch can't repeat itself. I am not saying it will happen, but it is certainly reasonable to think it very well could, considering it just did.
  2. Of course tonight my cable company's WGN feed goes out.
  3. If this goes through, we're getting next to nothing or nothing. It's just the reality of the situation.
  4. No kidding. If the Cubs are paying the majority of the salary, they better get something good in return. You don't get throw away prospects and pay for all the salary. wanna bet? the cubs were desperate to get rid of jones, he's not very good, he's expensive, and he's got another year on his contract. the cubs will pay a bunch of $ and likely get very little in return. Then we should have DFAed him and released him a long time ago. Why pay the Marlins to have a potentially productive player in their lineup for the rest of the year and all of next year for nearly no cost? because that's what you do when you sign bad players like jones to bad contracts and then build your roster in such a way as to inevitably cause a huge cluster f. Exactly. Jones has been so bad this year that this sort of thing was really the only way to get rid of him, considering his contract.
  5. Personally, I liked Jacque Jones. Jacque Jones the player is another issue altogether. I don't care what we get in return. If we get a decent prospect, so much the better. If we get nothing, that's just fine. It needed to be done, regardless of the details.
  6. The Score seems pretty much positive Jacque won't be a Cub at the end of the day. Please, oh please let them be right for once.
  7. It is when you consider that nobody else on the roster can play SS for more than an emergency fill-in role... which means it's going to be all Izturis all the time. Bingo. Izturis has been outplaying Theriot. As the starting SS, Theriot has been abysmal. There's a negligible difference defensively, and Theriot is a better bet to produce offensively going forward, despite what he's done in an small sample at SS. There's nothing to support your claim. Theriot has been worse in June. Theriot has been worse for the past couple weeks. Theriot has been abysmal at SS, .186/.255/.209 over a not all that small sample of nearly 100 PA. SS is a really hard position to play, combine that with Theriot playing way too frequently and it's easy to see why his numbers have taken a hit from when he was provided a boost as a role player. Theriot has sucked for a considerable amount of time. Freaking out because a player like that gets sent down is pretty absurd to me. Now, I'm not calling for Izturis playing SS everyday for the rest of the year, but there's no reason to think the team takes a hit with him playing there the next 10 days or so. He's a decent bet to at least flirt with getting on over 30% of the time. Can't say the same for Theriot, who has been abysmal for a very long time and is a good bet to just ground out to 2nd repeatedly. You are correct, unfortunately. Theriot is been pretty bad for a while now.
  8. My guess is that a deal either fell through or got delayed. This is probably the case.
  9. Talking to yourself when alone = okay Talking to yourself when others are around = wierd
  10. Buehrle grew up a Cards fan, and they will need SP. I think it's a near lock he's a Card in 08' if he doesn't sign with the team that trades for him.
  11. I'll say this for Bowen, he sure knows how to work a count.
  12. Yes, please. Unloading Jacque will clarify things greatly. I wonder what the Cubs could get from the Rangers in exchange....
  13. I don't think enough people appreciate that 2001 season. Given what was around him, it was darn near miraculous.
  14. That lineup was brutal last night. We better get used to it. The lineup will look a lot better starting on Friday. Aram coming back on Friday? I missed this. You have made me very happy, my friend. Yeah, WGN last night and all the papers have said that Aramis should return Friday. He has been taking fielding drills and batting practice the past couple days with no setbacks. They also said he would probably DH in the Sox series.
  15. Wow, you sure know how to fish. Funny thing is, everyone's so busy wondering about Lincecum, that the equally insane inclusion of Cliff Lee gets ignored. I didn't ignore it. I have just decided that arguing with sunny is a Sisyphean task and didn't bother.
  16. That lineup was brutal last night. We better get used to it. The lineup will look a lot better starting on Friday. But what I don't understand is how Jones keeps getting PT. DH Ward and put Floyd in RF for God's sake. The lineup would look a lot better.
  17. ya, he got cut in ST by the Fish. Have you checked up on your boy Corey abuck? .210/.261/.288. At least he's still in the league.
  18. Doesn't that have a lot to do with this year, in which he has had to catch some of the easiest pitchers to steal off of? Aren't his minor league CS numbers pretty good? Most of the scouting reports I have read say he has a good arm, and it looks from a quick glance like about half of his SB allowed this season have come with Maddux on the mound.
  19. I just got to the party, but here are my two cents: I am conflicted about this trade. Conflicted because I both like Barrett but believe he was hurting the team. He didn't hurt the team over the past few years because his batting averages were about as high as his OBP is this year. His offense simply wasn't making up for his defense. Rob Bowen is no prize, but Michael wasn't coming back next year, was not hitting well and defending even worse, and is surrounded by an air of incompetence and controversy, for right or wrong. Hendry is no genius, but I can't see how he was going to do a whole lot better. See ya Micheal, I liked you but it was time to go.
