  1. I'd rather he just leave the homerun record as is and just go the hell away now. It we're talking about what we want, I'd like to see someone roll up Bonds' leg and explode his knee. But on the realistic side, I just want him to go away ASAP.
  2. Bonds just needs to get his 756 and go the hell away.
  3. True, but it seems that too often the moment has passed when Len gets excited. If the ball is landing at the same time your call reaches it's crescendo, the moment is ruined. The excitement of the call comes during the time between contact but before the moment it becomes obvious to the fan at home that a HR has been hit. Once I can tell the ball has left the park, the call is largely superfluous. But at the same time, I hate it when I get excited over nothing. It's a fine line. Just because we hate Chip doesn't mean he didn't actually have some good points. But if we want to talk about announcers who were premature on homer calls, Harry put his grandson to shame. I love Len Kasper much more than Chip, and his call today was spectacular. Yeah, but when I've left the room to use the john, I'd rather the HR call be a bit late than to get me all excited that I start to try to wrap it up only to find out it was a shallow fly ball to the left fielder. What I hated about Chip was that his HR call was the same for both teams: "SWUNG ON BELTED, DEEP TOWARDS LEFT FIELD, WAY BACK AND GONE" *i run into room* "THAT'S A HOME RUN FOR JEFF BAGWELL" me: :? This is another issue altogether. I love the way Len handles it. I hated how Chip got just as excited for opposition homers, but I hate homeristic babies like Hawk even more. I think you should show preference to your team, but not so much so that it makes you unprofessional.
  4. I'd like to see Hill swapped out for Soto. I see little risk in this, since catcher has become an offensive black hole. I would bring Ronny back up when/if Fontenot cools off. For the time being, I think SS/2B has to be Fontenot/DeRo.

  6. Because on any given day, anything can happen. I most other sports, raw athleticism and physical prowess usually trumps skill. Not so much in baseball. It's also a game of athleticism, but more one of skill, intelligence, focus and anticipation. On any given day, anybody can win, anybody can be the hero.
  7. Len IS awesome. Len is awesome. But I didn't totally dig this call. He had alot of energy, AT FIRST. But then his kermit the frog voice wasn't able to support his emotion and he lost some of the, depth of his voice. And the "oh baby" just didn't hav the "oomph" that I would expect out of a follow up phrase. 8.5 out of 10. I'm still remembering the Walker superman slide and Chip's call. That imo, was the best TV cubs win call I can remember. Say what you want about chip, but he called a GREAT homer, and great win. i disagree 100%. len is amazing and that call might be my favorite cubs tv call ever. len sounded 100% genuine in his excitement. DEEP LEFT CENTER!!!! CUUUUUUBBBBSSSS WIN!!!! It was truly awesome. I must have watched it 15 times on my DVR. I love Len, in spite of the fact he sometimes doesn't recognize a homer until it is in the stands. Chip had a better voice and had one of the best home run calls around. Having said that, Len seems to care a lot more, knows a lot more and is generally awesome. Len FTW. Len is so much better of a pbp guy than Chip, it's really insulting to Len to compare the two. It's like comparing Vin Scully to Joe Carter in terms of broadcasters.... To be fair, Chip was much better at recognizing homers off the bat and calling them. But that's about it.
  8. You're being generous there. His fastball is dependent on his curve. If he can command the curve, he's good. If he can't, he's bad. It's that simple. Fortunately, it seems he commands it more often than not.

  10. No, he's not fat at all. I was just playing along.
  11. The Brewers seem to be stockpiling.
  12. I just got to the party, and am not the least bit thrilled with Noah. Would rather have had Julian Wright. Maybe even Acie Law. Joakim was a good player, but I have a bad feeling he'll be exposed in the NBA.
  13. Prince is great, but it looks like something is trying to escape from his shirt when he is running. I think he's going to have to find a way to lose some of that flubber unless he wants a short career.
  14. Reyes Santana Mauer Peavy Utley I'm gonna take two aces, and production at positions that are hard to find production at, and gamble that I can find some power bats between 1B, 3B, RF and LF.
  15. Yeah, I can think of a few reasons Z shouldn't be an all-star, and his performance is not the least of them.
  16. Buehrle would be crazy to sign for $50 million. Unless something horrible happens in the second half, he is probably going to get offers in the $75-$80 million range. for 4 years?!?!?!? Not likely.
  17. All right, how about Z vs. Sheets in a fight? I'll bet on Z in the first round by technical dismemberment.
  18. That's the blue ferrari other teams see in their rear view mirror. With a driver who can't drive stick. If they can keep it in top gear, they'll be fine. Drop into lower gears, and they'll stall it like usual.
  19. I am very confident in the Cubs ability to secure at least the wildcard if they continue to win at the same pace they have been over the last 6 days. If they continue to win at the pace they have over the past 6 days, they'll win 123 games.
  20. A convenient omission, isn't it?
  21. Like it or not, the health factor counts for something. Being effective doesn't count for much when you can't take the mound. And the only thing Sheets really does better is not walk people. Sheets has a marginally higher k/9, but Z is much harder to hit than Ben. If Zambrano's walk rate was a slow as Sheets', this would be a slam dunk.
  22. I was under the impression that Williams is inclined to keep Konerko. Dye needs to go for sure. I guess I am just not sure how much he'll get out of the others, and thought Buehrle was his best negotiating piece. If Dye proves that he is healthy enough to handle RF, I would not mind Hendry going out and trading for him. He and Floyd would make a very solid platoon in RF. I had thought that myself, but I am not remotely convinced last season wasn't a fluke. I might still do it, but only if the Sox pick up most of his remaining money, and I wouldn't give up much in the way of talent. Or maybe trade Jones for him straight up, but I think Kenny would want more than that.

  24. If Williams has brain one in that head of his, he better part with his potential FAs. They have ZERO chance of passing the Twins, Indians and Tigers. That is the toughest division in the game. I would be thoroughly amused if they think they can still make the postseason and pass up the opportunity to bring in some young talent via trade just because of a couple wins versus Tampa Bay.
  25. Only a few days ago there was no chance of reconciliation, and he was as good as gone. Now an extension? Odd.
