  1. Quit nitpicking typos, you're making him seem ignorant.
  2. More than anything, I'm surprised that celebs even attempt marriage. You're rarely home, and everywhere you go you'll have women throwing themselves at you. At some point, it's going to give. I'm not condoning the behavior, I'm just calling it futile to try and maintain a monogamous relationship at a young age and in those circumstances. I wouldn't even try. Not everyone is a strong as A.C. Green. And of course you're going to shack up with "regular" people, unless you want everyone to find out. Some people are looking for true love and realize that hooking up loses its luster over time. Some people try to find true love and also hook up. Tiger preferred the latter. As good as the sex probably was with beautiful women, I think pretty much every guy out there knows that it can get depressing knowing that women only want you for reasons other than love. This isn't about "finding love", it's about finding a way to satisfy your biological imperitve when you only see your wife every once in a while. And he doesn't care why they are sleeping with him, just that they continue to be accessible. And they don't care that he doesn't care, they just care that they are hooking up with Tiger Woods. I don't cheat on my wife because I see her all the time. But when you are in a situation like Tiger, there are a lot of things going on: 1.You're rarely home, meaning you don't get it on with your wife very much. 2.You're a relatively young male, which means you really need to be getting it on. 3.You're a high profile celeb, so you don't need to seek hookups, they seek you out. Relentlessly. Unless you are highly unusual, this is a recipe for disaster. To be clear, I AM NOT condoning adultery. I am saying people like Tiger Woods should have a little foresight, and not put themselves in untenable situations. There is pressure from without and within to find some measure of stability, but you have to understand when something isn't going to work, and not be so selfish as to try and have your cake and eat it too. Especially when this comes at the emotional expense of someone else (your wife). And Mojo is right, Derek Jeter is the perfect example of how to handle this lifestyle.
  3. At this point I think he's been watching basketball for about three years. There is no way you can argue Purdue over any of that other four. I don't know as much about the other schools, but I know that Illinois hasn't been playing as long as Purdue. Yet we have, more wins, a better winning percentage, more final fours, more big ten tourny titles. Plus since World War two we have more Big Ten regular season titles. All of that and I would have us about 3rd or 4th in Big Ten history. I would think his argument would rest solely on winning the most Big Ten titles of any team, but as I pointed out above, 13 of their 21 titles happened before 1940, meaning they were back in the days where teams would try to hold the ball for the entire half with a 16-15 lead because there was no shot clock. MSU, UM, Illinois, and OSU all have more Big 10 titles since 1940 than Purdue does. I said historically and historically Purdue has won the Big Ten more than anyone. However, basketball also includes women where Purdue, along with Ohio State, have been by a wide margin the best in the Big Ten. Also since 1980 men's Purdue has won 6 Big Ten titles. Only Indiana (8) has more with Michigan State, Illinois and Ohio State each having six as well. No one cares about the old stuff. Realistically, Purdue is no more "prestigious" than Illinois, UM, MSU or OSU. Trying to portray the Boilers as being on some elite tier with Indiana is humorous.
  4. Very similar to the Illinois-Clemson game a couple weeks back. Yeah, that's what I was thinking when they finally go the lead back. Almost turned it off, glad I didn't. The last time I turned the game in disgust was the Illinois-Arizona Elite Eight game in 2005. Fortunately, I turned it back a few minutes later. I don't do that much anymore.

  6. I'd like to see Purdue justified as having a significantly better basketball history than every school in the b10 other than Indiana. Yeah, me too.
  7. I agree. I don't see the answer out there on the market right now, and if I did, I sure wouldn't trust Hendry to identify it. I feel good about the Ricketts so far. I like that they're going to give Wrigley the attention it needs. I like what I've heard about player development. And I don't think walking in the door tossing millions around, dictating that our top prospects be traded for rentals and possibly more bad contracts would be a great idea. This is a long term endeavor, and to be honest, I would be more perturbed if the new owners came in and started making huge moves, not having an entirely intimate knowledge of everything that's going on. In any walk of life, when you enter an new situation, waiting until you have your full bearing before acting is the soundest tactic. And the payroll is plenty big as it is. The problem is how it's allocated, and that won't be fixed overnight.
  8. Astros sign Brandon Lyon for 3/15. Apparently boneheaded bullpen signings are in for NL Central clubs this offseason.
  9. I'm not sure why. NY likes feisty. They like good players. And they absolutely love guys who walk. If he starts 0-20 there could be trouble, but as long as he's halfway decent he'll just be one of several guys in a great lineup. If he gets thrown out arguing with an ump, they aren't going to be pissed at him, they are going to be with him. And as long as he can get Jeter on his side, he'd be gold. Unlike in Chicago this past year, Bradley will not be anywhere close to THE STORY of spring training. He won't have to be some savior. It seems to me than scrutiny is the bane of Bradley's existence. Any amount of it, really. You're not going to get through a full season as a starter in NY, especially on the Yankees, without being the focus of some degree of scrutiny. Sure, he'll get lost in the mix a bit, but if he comes under fire, it'll be really bad. Quite frankly, I think Milton just needs to go a laid back market. And to be fair, I think the implication that Bradley was regarded as a savior for the Cubs last year is gross overstatement.
  10. Bradley in NY would be an unmitigated disaster, and I'm pretty sure everyone knows it. I'm not sure the possibility is even worth discussing.
  11. And surprisingly, aside from walks, many of Grabow's peripherals look slightly better. Higher k/9, better BAA.
  12. I'm not convinced that after a string of decidedly average-mediocre seasons Hawkins has regained his dominance at age 36. I'm not high on Grabow at all, but I don't think the Hawkins signing is any better than his.
  13. The only marked difference between Pineiro last year and pre-2009 is that his ground ball rate really spiked. He also walked fewer batters, and while his k rate was down, his k/bb rate was up. I don't know if this was Duncan teaching him something, or it was a fluke. I wouldn't mind giving him a shot at the back of the rotation, but he'll probably want multiple years, which I wouldn't do.
  14. Cubs projected win total in 2010 just went up by 2. hawkins has been pretty badass over the past 85 or so innings. Hawkins is a pretty decent reliever. He's decent, but last season looks somewhat anomalous, as it was clearly his best since 2003. He certainly isn't worth 2/7.5. This is a Grabow-esque signing.
  15. Cubs projected win total in 2010 just went up by 2. And in 2011. 2yr/7.5 million.
  16. Definitely. But does Hendry think so?
  17. Yeah, I think a four team playoff is the best we can hope for. And really, it should be enough in most years.
  18. I think that's an extremely remote possibility. If Florida had kept it close against Alabama and Texas squeaked by in the title game I'd give it more of a chance. Cincy can't play defense. Florida is going to maul them.
  19. Possible "new endeavors": Touring with his band Writing about the Red Sox Talking about the Red Sox Watching the Red Sox Writing about his band Starting a blog about the Red Sox Working for the Red Sox Writing about the Red Sox Does this include being Theo Epstein's cabana boy?
  20. Good. I'd rather get Cameron. I agree. He's a solid player and won't come at the cost of top prospects.
  21. If this trade goes through, it all but ensures Cameron will be a Cub, IMO.
  22. This is true, but I doubt the Cards will get any more out of him than they did out of Piniero last year. And unless I am mistaken, Piniero is likely to be on another team in 2010. He's solid, but Penny will never be as good as he was (which was for brief periods at that). I see this as a lateral move.
  23. Yeah, for a power pitcher that k/9 is decidedly mediocre, and he walks a lot of batters. Of course Dave Duncan will help, but I'm hardly concerned.
