    The NBA thread

....and if I was seeing it right, he took off from inside the foul line and still didn't make it to the hoop. Lots of NBA guys get high enough to throw the ball down to the basket from a couple feet away. I don't get the hoop-la. I liked the candle blow-out better, personally.
  2. Back in one of the leagues closer to home, IIRC.
  3. Man, did he ever drop off a cliff after '05.
  4. This story on Roberts is somewhar similar but I thought I would post it anyway. http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/baseball/bal-roberts219,0,97820.story Anyone else interpreting this as Roberts really wanting to come to Chicago (i.e. wanting to leave Baltimore)? All players will give the stock line about "being hard to leave here." But talking about winning sooner -- he's no dummy, he knows that's never going to happen in Baltimore.
  5. You and me both my friend. same...last i checked you needed to tag someone for them to be out in that situation. +1 Bugs me when they re-play that one and don't mention the controversy over whether or not he was actually out.
  6. Great pics, thanks for posting them!!!
  7. Just a guess, but it certainly sounds like the Red Sox are more than happy to get rid of Matty, as his rehab was not progressing as they'd hoped. He might not pitch at all.
  8. stallworth might be available. I'm available too. I don't do windows.
  9. AA can toss passes to the other safeties in practice, that's about it. It pains me to say it because he's obviously a nice guy, but if you can't play you can't play. Maybe Comcast has a job for him or something.
  10. Not sure it's worth adding my voice to this fray, but I will only say that I wish they wouldn't show AVG first when a hitter comes up to bat.
  11. don't want berrian for the price he'd command. i like the idea of faneca, but the guards weren't the big problem. the tackles were. miller needs to go and tait needs to go back to rt. They were? Ruben Brown wasn't very good when he was in there. When he got hurt, they were abysmal in his spot. Garza has never been anything special. while i don't remember the running back getting many yards between the tackles, i really don't remember fred miller or john tait getting their hands on opposing defensive ends. really, tait is more aof a guard himself, the man has no instincts anymore at tackle. I still feel he'll be OK at RT, but I fear you are right and he'll suck at tackle period. Which would be disappointing, and really set back our plans to field a solid OLine any time soon. Finding two T's + a OG ?? Then you have to worry about Kreutz pretty soon too. Wow, we're talking major overhaul here, and we have other needs.
  12. Yup, in 2001, he was the Diamondbacks top prospect according to BA That must have been a pathetic farm system at the time when you look at what Cintron put up in 2000 in the minors... 2000 numbers: .301/.338/.404/.742 That is your #1 prospect in 01? Yeesh. I recall Meph saying something in a previous thread where Cintron was brought up about Cintron being considered the next Derek Jeter at one point. Ha! .317/.359/.489 over 487 PA in 2003. Cintron at least has the tools to put up a decent line... which is something. We could catch lightning in a bottle. Yeah but the last time he really played it was .273 .298 .415 Very icky. And very......Hendry-ish, if I may say so. How many guys come through here who have basically the same OBP as their AVG? FTH with that crap?
  13. you can barely contain yourself That does seem to be the theme in this thread. I admit that I'm elated that another fan base will now be subjected to all that Dusty brings to the table. However, has anyone considered that the sun could possibly shine on even Baker's behind this year or next? How devestating would that be to Cubs fans? well the sun shone on ours in 2003, but we saw the cost of that I was thinking the same thing. If he takes them to the playoffs one year but it costs them all their young starters' careers -- that'll be par for the course.
  14. I can't allow myself to believe the Cubs will win 91 this year. I'll need to see it, then give appropriate accolades if it happens.
  15. How close were they on our '07 prediction? I'll take 89 wins from this bunch any day.
  16. .....and couldn't sell out their own stadium for the NLCS. It had to be filled out by Cub fans.
  17. Exactly. I think a brand new stadium in Miami is going to drastically increase the fans attending. The current stadium seems designed to drive away as many people as possible. you'd be surprised. people in south florida are terrible sports fans. there are a lot of transplants, and the whole scene down there is a lot more focused on fashion and nightlife than it is professional athletics. regardless of how good the product is, i doubt that they'll draw really well. I agree South Florida fans are not the best and very fairweathered, but drawing under 5,000 in games is below even them as long as its reasonably accessable to the actual city center. For instance, the Florida Panthers have never averaged less than 13,000 fans per game, in a sport that is much less popular than baseball. Well -- hopefully it improves then. For years it seemed their only recourse was going to be to try to move the team. But that's really tough too; people underestimate the cost & effort to uproot a franchise to another city. So it's good they came to an agreement. Miami is too big a city to not have baseball.
  18. Yep. Then 10 years from now we can listen to the tired, monotonous moaning of Royals fans asking to move back to the AL because they can't sell out their stadium unless the Cards come to town. I mean seriously.
  19. I don't find this to be weird at all, I pretty much do the same thing! Only problem is, work is really, really busy for me right now. I might not even have the time to get tix :( BTW, gotta love how the Cubs have basically made every game a "Prime Game" instead of just raising ticket prices.
  20. So let me get this straight. The Brewers want to move back to the AL, because when the Cubs come to town, they actually *SELL* tickets? This makes sense.......how, exactly?
  21. It's pretty clear they have terrible fans. Whether they can turn that around, who knows?
  22. That's the best news so far this season. Guzman could end up coming in very handy if he can make it back for the tail end of the season. Maybe he'll even get his first MLB win. That brings me to a great thought. Anyone with access to a vast majority of stats, can anyone figure out what is the record for most appearances without a win in MLB history? Guzman has 27 career appearances 80 Juan Alvarez 80 Ed Olwine 63 Chris Britton 61 Erik Plantenberg 55 Frank Fanovich 55 Terry Felton 51 Rob Mallicoat 50 Jeff Kaiser
  23. Chris Harris. Man, what an incomprehensible, completely unnecessary move by Angelo/Lovie. That's what happens when you acquire Archuleta and Ricky Manning, unfort. they let go of the wrong guy. I dont really miss Harris all that much, but I agree letting Archuletta or RMJ go would have been better. He's so much better than Arch at this point, it isn't even funny.
