  1. I dunno guys, I can easily see Hendry & Lou leaning on Soriano to move down in the order if we acquired Roberts. I don't see how that makes no sense. Maybe it wouldn't actually happen, but I could see pressure being applied on Soriano to do it. ...there would probably be quite a bit of pressure coming from the media to do it too.
  2. Is the 7M in the eighth year for a total of $133M? Even so, Santana's asking for 150 over 6 years. That's 20M more then Zito with less years. Again, I don't think it will be 150M, but I could see 120. If he goes 7 years I could see 150, but not at 6 years. Well if they don't get something done pretty quick here the whole deal's going to go bye-bye.
  3. That's insane. I'd give him 5/107.5...no more. Yanks & Red Sox are in total agreement. "Offer him less than he'll take, and stand firm!" (then gobble him up when he nixes the trade and hits the market again)
  4. Beckett said he was squeezed on a few of those pitches? Which ones? Looked like he was struggling to find the plate.
  5. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080130&content_id=2360377&vkey=hotstove2007&fext=.jsp&partnered=rss_mlb The Birds are trying a last ditch attempt to sign him for five years....which would be monumentally stupid. HAHAHA McPhangelos strikes again! LOL. The multi-headed, multiple-personality disorder GM/Owner!
  6. The other thing is -- maybe the Twins know something we don't. I've respected their ability to develop young players in the past. Perhaps they see in a couple of these guys the kinds of things that the Mets don't know how to bring out. I don't know, I'm grasping. I'd be upset if I was a Twins fan right now.
  7. They got 4 of the their top 7 but it was 2, 3, 5 and 7 or some combination like that. They didn't even get #1. I saw them saying this on ESPN and it's a stupid way of making what the Mets gave up look better when what they gave up was not at all a steep price. (By the way, I'm tired of seeing the media say the Mets paid a steep price for Santana. They didn't. Quantity isn't quality. Quit saying it.) Not sure if there is a metric to grade each teams top 7 or even top 10, but wouldn't the Mets be pretty far down the list as far as best "top 7's" in baseball? Surely, to get those same top prospects from the Yankees or Boston would have been a much nicer looking package, IMO. Oh hell yeah. That's exactly what I was thinking too. If that's 4 of their top 7, then their minor league system must be pretty bad. I've heard some others say that this was possibly the 4th best offer the Twins received too. I wonder if the better 3 offers were all from A.L. teams -- which might make sense just to get Santana out of the A.L. I don't understand the logic behind taking a lesser package to make sure he leaves the league. So he doesn't match up against you (or at least not as often). I wasn't saying it's a great idea, I'm just trying to figure out why they would take a lesser package.

  9. The rumor mill is hilarious this year. "The *REAL* deal is just how *I* reported it *WEEKS* ago!!!!" LOL. LOL.
  10. After his outright denials, that's not a defense. It's an admission of guilt. He'll either continue his denials (he's got the ego to think he can lie to congress -- I think this is what he'll do), or perhaps take the 5th. Taking the 5th would just confirm that he took steroids, IMO. If you can flat out deny it on national television, then why take the 5th under oath?
  11. The official announcement is still coming, but it has been confirmed according to http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=978015 Great news. Unfortunately, living out of market, I'll only get those HD games that Extra Innings decides to put on, but still if you live in the Chicago area and you're HD, this is massive.
  12. So apparently baseball america or some organization was touting that the Twins got "4 of the Mets top 7" prospects in this deal. I'm looking at their minor league stats and seeing nothing spectacular at all. They all just look like guys to me, stats wise. It looks very much to me that the Mets got Santana for a group of medium prospects. Unless Santana gets injured or his arm wears down, this is a good deal for the Mets, IMO.
  13. And he batted 130 times less than Pierre. Pierre was more efficient with the bat than Theriot Pierre still blows. I don't want his noodle arm anywhere near Wrigley unless he's jogging out of the visitor's locker room.
  14. It's still ridiculous that it would take 3 days for a trade that was complete to be "approved" by the owner. Seriously, if its that big of a deal for Angelos to free up 15 minutes of free time, either trust the GM you hired or become the GM yourself. Well, it was supposedly completed Sunday night, and Stein or someone from ESPN said Angelos had family matters to deal with on Monday. Today is Tuesday. Yes, but the only "approval" that should be needed is that a) MacPhail was hired as the GM, and b) the move stays within the pre-defined budget for the offseason. If you need to approve every move the GM makes, then he's not really the GM and you didn't hire the right guy.

Seriously, if its that big of a deal for Angelos to free up 15 minutes of free time, either trust the GM you hired or become the GM yourself. I know. You give a GM his budget, and then trust him to do his damn job, or find someone else who you do trust. At this point, I'm not even sure I'm comfortable calling MacPhail the GM.
  16. He'll be able to corner the market on doing used car commercials in St. Louis forever.
  17. I'm big time jonesing for some baseball. It doesn't help that the Bulls are a complete disaster.
  18. I find that some Cub fans just generally think our players have little or no value. The "grass is greener" sort of attitude.
  19. I don't recall many confirming trades before they are complete very often, if at all. If one of the guys failed their physical, the trade would be off, leaving egg on the face of the GM who declared it prematurely. Not that it would happen in this case.
  20. Really? Like what? Whenever I have a pot luck, Ryan always brings a hot side dish and a dessert. Ronny usually only brings a small bag of cookies. If it's a picnic, then Theriot brings the Ketchup, Cedeno maybe the Relish and Mustard. Neither brings the hot dogs & buns. ...only further confirming just how worthless Theriot is. You don't put ketchup on hot dogs. LOL, nice. 8-)

  22. I find it mildly humorous how invested you are in defending these guys, david. Yeah, they are all making it up because it was so easy to declare the Tejada trade was official 6 hours before any media outlet reported it, including the exact players involved. This being about a week after it was first mentioned in any papers (that the Astros are interested). Or maybe the fact that the night before the draft signing deadline one of them declared the Weiters deal was done and named the exact $ amount. They surely have some info to share, but the medium makes it difficult to just trust out of hand. It's the very nature of message boards to be anonymous, it's not the best idea to just take stuff on a MB when there's no corroboration. Personally I never meant to call into question any intentions -- everyone wants to know what's going on and people everywhere want to share what they know, or think they know. I don't believe very many people are deliberately trying to lie, or hoax everyone. Maybe that's naive of me. Let's see what happens this week. It should be interesting.
  23. Link Gallagher and Pie? That would be a terrible deal. Horrible beyond belief. In defense of Rosenthal though (which.....I really shouldn't be trying to defend him, but oh well), the entire quote is just throwing names out there, not suggesting it's going to be Gallagher and Pie together. I think I found the the place that originated this dreadful rumor: Hire Jim Essian Ugh.
  24. I find it mildly humorous how invested you are in defending these guys, david. I point it out when I think people are way off base. Do you honestly think these guys are just making stuff up, got it right a couple times, gained a following, and then convinced the site admin (who went through his own "sources," whatever they may be) to post a BS story on the site's main page and completely risk the credibility of that website? Obviously, the site admin believed he had concrete info when they posted that report up (which had been confirmed independently of the inside posters). He didn't just put it on the front page of the site on a hunch. I just think it's [expletive] and far more far-fetched to think that it's some kind of elaborate hoax is all. Yeah, I don't think they were pulling a hoax. But they were crying all sorts of "deal done" and other crap while being directly contradicted by everyone else on the planet. You do that and you're wrong? You destroyed your own credibility and you've got no one to blame but yourself.
