  1. That's what I think. It sounds like there's a population of Modzilla victims @ Desipio.
  2. "Can anyone be this good"?!??! That's hilarious. Unless you have like A-Rod or Pujols on the cover, that quote does not belong. At the time he was hot. To me this merely illustrates (excuse the pun) the danger of taking a player's first few months in the league and drawing conclusions from it.
  3. Yeah, it pains me to admit it but I think there's a solid chance this team stays below .500 for a good while. It's amazing how quickly a Super Bowl team developed needs up & down the roster.
  4. Exactly. Imagine if someone came on here the morning that Z re-signed claiming to know Z's agent and that a deal was about to get done (when nobody saw much of a chance of something getting done with Z). They would have a cult-like following on here and people would hang on every word. Actually, this sort of happened. Somebody scooped the Z deal the night before it happened when nobody thought it would happen during the season :D. Heh, I actually would've completely missed it. I was at the doc getting my broken nose fixed that day. What happened? This was posted by BleacherBadger the night before Z was signed: People of course were skeptical until the next day, but the info was still very well appreciated, and the next time BleacherBadger picks up something I hope people will still be skeptical, but remember that he already scooped that. In fairness though, this post is full of qualifiers. He's very clearly labeling it as rumor, something that isn't known for sure. That's much, much different from posting "done deal" on your front page.
  5. Hehe. You numbers homers, you. :P
  6. LOL, desipio is awesome. I've never been there before. Is that where all of Modzilla's disgruntled victims go to die?
  7. You mean your Grandfather's barber? LOL. hehe, yeah that was good. I had to think it through for a few seconds.
  8. What's great about this thread is if you take any sizeable range of pages, you get the entire content of the thread in condensed form. So if you want to know what's going on, just read pages 10-40 or 110-140. Little difference.
  9. McNamee apparently delivered physical evidence that Clemens roided up: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/chi-07-clemensfeb07,1,6445449.story Seems mighty strange to save medical supplies for that long, but who knows.
  10. True, but even after 172 pages we still don't have a real clue what the deal would be.
  11. So does the "I always heard this place sucks" argument rise to the level of the "Hitler" argument? -- i.e. you use it, you lose it.
  12. well, he hasn't been good since 2003. that's one issue Unfortunately a rather serious one at that.
  13. It's been reeeaaaal interesting for the past month and a half. :P
  14. *brain explodes* No seriously though, I would need to actually spend some time to evaluate whether I think it's a worthy stat or not. I guess for now I'll take everyone's word for it. Don't laugh. Most fans of the NFL still think QB Rating is a valid individual stat. Heck, most *experts* still fail to mention how dependent it is on the performances of other team members. There are all kinds of stats out there that people just accept as good stats, when really they aren't.
  15. And that's when you know it's time to walk away... Indeed.
  16. There's actually some good baseball discussion hidden amongst all the Jesse, though. I saw most of it. It's always interesting to see players who are perceived differently than their numbers show (or, at the very least, *some* of their stats). This happens quite often in baseball -- and there's always someone who won't consider that their perception might be wrong. I freely admit to being guilty of this in the past, as well.
  17. I know you all will love the cryptic quotes from the O's guys. Hahah. Nice.
  18. League average EqA = .260 (it's built so this ALWAYS happens). League average OPS+ is 100...so a .271 EqA probably translates to arounda a 104 OPS+. I really need to read up on more stats. But I really don't like spending much time studying them. I'm too right-brain for it. Thanks for the explanation.
  19. It's time Hendry came out and declared this deal dead. Even if it isn't. This is ridiculous listening to insulting crap such as that.
  20. What are those numbers? I'm suprised to see Fukudome ranked that high. Also, Francoeur posted a 103 OPS+ last year. That's average, but not horrible. A guy like Teahen was below him, yet you have him ranked above. There's a whole host of guys on that list who posted a simlar 100-ish OPS+, some of whom didn't even put in full seasons. I don't think Francoeur's great or anything. Don't get me wrong. I'll take Kosuke, thank you very much.
  21. It's basically 2 teams going back & forth about players in a possible trade; i.e. exactly what every GM for every team does every day during the offseason. The fact that it got leaked to the press and people started running with it doesn't change whether or not it was an imminent deal. I don't think it ever was, based on what I'm seeing. That doesn't mean it won't happen, but I don't think anyone was ever getting out their ballpoint pens.
  22. He did a very good job. His escapability was impressive, and I thought, unexpected. However -- he did throw a couple passes up for grabs, and it just so happens one of them bounced off Samuel's hands. If that gets caught, the game is over and we're talking about the perfect Pats and watching odes to Belichek 24/7 on ESPN for the next 6 months. I realize other QBs sometimes throw 'em up too, but it's definitely something he shouldn't have done, especially the one to Assante.
  23. I've seen all the NL teams at Wrigley at one time or another, even the Rockies and Marlins. Oh -- I haven't seen the Nats. I saw them when they were the Expos though. A.L. -- Twins, Indians, White Sox, Mariners (against the Cubs). I think that's it. I'm a very N.L. - centric fan in baseball.
