  1. cst_cubs twitter: "Gregg a little achy and unavailable tonight. Not considered an injury. Team calls it a tired arm." Haha. Team calls it a tired arm. Code for, Lou tired of watching him blow games.
  2. Psychologically, it hurts more to lose a game when you had the lead in the 9th. It might not be any more than that. It should be just as valuable to "save" a rally in 8th inning. But teams pay more for the guy who saves them from losing the extra sleep of blowing a lead at the last moment (or so it seems). Gregg is average. I accept that. He's going to blow saves like this. And then sometimes he'll get it done. I'm not sure if Chicago is going to forgive him his failings, though. I know I was sure screaming at him listening on the radio this weekend. If he grabs a few saves in a row, people will put their negative attitude on hold until he blows one again. Such is life.
  3. OK Lou, Wells has done his bit for King & Country, time to bring someone else in.
  4. Just, you know, 12 Years I don't get that. It's just unseemly. What is the attraction of giving these guys such long deals, anyway? I know Hossa wasn't the first. Just seems extreme, out of hand. I just read an article that says the league might fine the Hawks $5million and some draft picks if they discussed retirement. If they did, then they're just stupid. But I don't see how they go into a 12 year deal on a 30 year old player thinking the deal will last the full length.
  5. Yeah. Oh to hell with it, she's killing me anyway just get it over with. That is definitely a bizarre ending to Mr. Gatti's life.
  6. Sounds absolutely insane down there. 6,000 on a Friday? I'm heading down tomorrow morning. That night practice is going to be pure bedlam. Wow. I can really only get there 2 hours before. Any more than that, forget it. I can't sit around waiting for 3 hours in a parking lot with no bathrooms and hot Sun.
  7. I agree. You definitely should have known better
  8. Anyone else getting the feeling that the entire list is already known, but the names are being dribbled out piece-meal? Because let's face it, if all the names come out at once, the story blows up and fizzles out after a week or two. This way it drags out over months, even years. Need a little ratings boost? Need to sell a few more papers this month? Dribble out a couple more names.
  9. Hub said that he knew nothing beyond the fact that they had a verbal argument at one point or another. It was Terry who reported his source saying that they had a confrontation in which Urlacher to be physically restrained at some point. Terry Boers? His "sources" usually reside at an address located between his ears.
  10. I heard it was Hub Arkush who said there was an actual fight between Urlacher and Cutler. The fact that the Score is throwing gas on the fire should surprise nobody. And if it was indeed Hub Arkush, it is even less surprising. I never heard Bobby Wade claim there was a fight between Urlacher and Cutler. That part appears to have originated on the Score, unless I didn't hear all of Wade's comments (which I thought they played the entire podcast, but whatever).
  11. In the world of sports talk radio, anyone who often uses VORP in player analysis is a stathead. He's really smart and really good for the most part. I tried listening for a few months a while back, and I wouldn't say he's smart. He's a baseball idiot and a mostly rational football guy, but not smart. I'd say his eloquence/articulacy, his broad knowledge in general about just about anything, and the fact that he's a Duke graduate make it safe enough to say that he's a smart guy, especially within the realm of sports radio. I know that's not necessarily relevant to what you're talking about, but I like the fact that I'm not listening to an idiot talking when I listen to their show, which you can't say about 9/10 people in sports radio. And to say he's a baseball "idiot" is just a tad hyperbolic, IMO. I generally don't listen to the show for baseball talk, though. Small guest spots aside, who is on the radio right now who really understands all the latest statistical analysis, and articulates it well? I never hear that, at all. Anywhere. Maybe I'm missing it. It's pretty much just web sites from what I know. Radio is full of entertainers, not statheads.
  12. That's a really good defensive outfield and you still have Alvarez in the wings. Yes, but their history seems to suggest that if/when those players develop major league value, they will be traded too. In exchange for the next crop of youngsters.
  13. What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. ....unless you happen to be with blabber-mouth Wade.
  14. Well this should be fun then. I still maintain profootballtalk sucks.
  15. I don't know if I trust anything profootballtalk (i.e. king of the wrongy-wrongs) says, nbc affiliation or not. But I guess if they have it on tape, that's different. Anyone got a link to the actual comments? Also, David -- your linky no worky. Edit: it's because NSBB won't allow the cuss word in the link through.
  16. I don't know. This sounds like a move made because of Tillman, not because of Manning. Now they can have Graham @ CB with Vasher, and keep Bowman as depth.
  17. 2 days to camp!
  18. NO! They need to tell him he either comes for the entirety of camp or he's no longer welcome. Especially after telling the offensive coordinator and head coach and everyone that he's done. See? The only way I'll believe he's retired is when he's been gone for years. Until then, he's always going to be treating someone like a giant yo-yo. Welcome to the Packers' nightmare, Minny. :D)
  19. Yeah. I'll believe he's not coming back when it has been a couple years and we haven't heard from him. Let's see how he feels when the TCs are in full swing and he's watching it from home.
  20. You've got to get into the Soriano experience. The smile, the pointing at stuff, the incomprehensible interviews. He's part baseball player, part alien.
  21. Yeah, I definitely can see questioning Lou's decision there. But once the decision is made -- he's got to be able to make some kind of contact. Even just fouling it off. I think Font is just a bench player. He's more comfortable being matched up to relievers in many games, only getting spot starts where the matchup would seem to favor him, etc. Unless he's just in a horrible slump, I don't see him as an everyday player. It was a nice try, but no dice.
  22. Besides all the Cardinal fans - I kinda like it here. i thought it was really boring there. It's actually not that bad. Strip away your Cardinal hatred and the city is actually pretty good when compared to other midsize non-coastal metropolitan areas. It's defenitely not Chicago: but I decided to work here for a year over some other choices (staying in Chicago and likely loosing my job vs. St. Louis vs Dallas vs. Atlanta). Plus it's a quick flight or an easy drive back home. Okay, their downtown has some issues but it's coming around. But there's lots of great neighborhoods and tons of things to do. If there's a city that's ready to really grow after this recession: it's St. Louis. My list of favorite cities 1) Chicago 2) Minneapolis/St. Paul 3) Denver 4) St. Louis 5) Austin There's a huge dropoff between 3 and 4 on that list. It's kind of like: 1) Chicago 2) Minny 3) Denver ~~Multitude of other nice cities~~ 4) St. Louis 5) Austin
  23. You know I thought so as well, but it seemed like Lou made up his mind to put the squeeze on before Fontenot's AB. If that was the case, you want to bring a good bunter to the plate, hence Fontenot instead of Fox. Sure, he could have used Blanco but that would have just been too obvious he was going for the squeeze. Fontenot had a perfect pitch to bunt and he just missed it. He deserves more of the blame than Lou. Why? It's always easier to call for something like that than execute it. If it succeeds I guarantee Lou gets most of the credit for being brilliant. It was still bases loaded with a guy who isn't a huge bunter (0 sac bunts this year, just 4 in his major league career) and a pitcher who was throwing the ball all over the place. I doubt Lou really cares about being called brilliant. He was trying to win the game. Like I said Fontenot was basically the last chance to get a run in and from the looks of it Lou didn't have much confidence in him to do that. He thought the squeeze was the best chance to win the game. But the argument is, it might not have been the best chance to win the game.
  24. Vick's lucky he was reinstated at all. Hopefully the additional suspension will keep his contract low if/when he does sign.
