  1. Really? Really what? It would have been nice to get Gregg a day off, and there was no reason to bring him in right there. Let Shark get the 1 out and if he cant do it and they get within range to tie it then bring in Gregg. Gregg pitched in every game of the series and threw alot of pitches Friday. We are in a stretch of 30 games in 31 days, when you have a chance to rest him, it needs to be done. Gregg was already up in the pen - and I think he should have been - so I don't think coming in for one batter caused any undue stress to his arm. It would have been very nice to give him the day off and if Shark had enjoyed an easy 9th, Gregg may not have even gotten up in the pen. Since he did, though, I don't have a big problem with him coming in. I was thinking that Lou only bringing in Gregg for 1 out the last 2 games was his way of giving him a bit of a rest, although he still needs to get up, warm up, etc.
  2. I'm sure there's always a portion of the fan base who are freaking out when their team struggles a bit. But with the recent acquisitions on the hitting side, I really doubt Cards fans as a whole are giving anything up yet.
  3. I don't know if this is the first time Bruce has called Stone's nonsense out. I do know this isn't the first time Stoney has directed a bunch of nonsense our way since joining the White Sox booth. I almost feel embarrassed for having liked him so much when he was with the Cubs. I swear he wasn't this bad when he was with us......or was he?
  4. Ricky Nolasco His 5.42 ERA is haunting my dreams 8-) The fact that few of our traded prospects have done well also suggests a lack of talent in our system, though. Correct? I'm not sure I would be trumpeting that. I'd also want other GMs to feel like they can get good value from us when they do have something that we need.
  5. I'm sick of "emptying the farm." LOL! When was the last time we emptied the farm? I didn't mean in one deal. We've got a pretty bare minor league cabinet. I'd like to see us start filling it up a bit more, that's all.
  6. He's not a very good hitter with us. For whatever reason, he sucks here. It's late July and he's shown few signs of life all year long. We'd be trading him so we wouldn't have to pay $10million/year for little return on the investment. Milton Bradley as a Cub is a disaster. Unloading his contract is something that should be considered. I know alot of people hate Bradley here but I dont think just cause he struggled his first 3 months at Wrigley that hes never going to turn it around. He's shown signs of life lately. Plus guys like Derrek Lee, Alfonso Soriano, Moises Alou, and many more have struggled there first couple months to first full season at Wrigley for whatever reason. It can be hard for people to adjust to playing at Wrigley. True, I don't know Bradley won't turn it around. I'm disappointed at the length and the depth of his struggles at this point. I held my opinion in check until recently, but now it's been too long. DLee and Soriano didn't struggle nearly as much in their first years with the Cubs, looking back. If MB doesn't turn it around yet this year, its going to be one of the worst first seasons ever for a major Cubs acquisition. Maybe even the worst. Yeah, I'm disappointed and angry at him right now. You are right. Even so, I would breathe a sigh of relief if his contract was unloaded in a decent deadline trade. I'm not sure I want to wait around to find out if he will pull out of it anymore.
  7. It's the aftermarket for me, if I want to see the Bears this year. I'll probably break down and pony up for one game.
  8. I'm sick of "emptying the farm." We have never really emptied the farm though. We have especially never emptied the farm for a guy like Dan Haren. Im not sure when Haren is up for free agency, but Id be very tempted to do a empty the farm trade for him. Gregg should net us 2 1st rounders, Harden could net us picks also. When it's one player, especially a pitcher, I really get worried about the injury risk. One serious injury and we just gave up the farm for nothing. The receving team, on the other hand, has its injury risk spread out over multiple players.
  9. It's been years now, and his repressed ire for the Cubs is still quite apparent. It has become abundantly clear that when Steve Stone gets a grudge, it lasts for life.

  11. Stone picked up on the Bradley stuff and reported it on the Score this morning. Edit: I see that others also heard it.
  12. That's pretty big trouble for us, I'm afraid.
  13. That article gives voice to many of my feelings about Hendry, and the club's direction. I'm sure nearly all of us have at least felt some worry about the overpaying of some of these guys. And I'm still very unhappy with the production of our minors, even though there have been a few players to come up. I want us producing actual super star position players that contribute for years & years at a high level. I'm still not seeing that, nor do I see it coming down the pike.
  14. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/chi-22-bears-haugh-chicago-jul22,0,4256690.column Here's some stuff from Haugh to chew on. I like to see this: I hope it translates into improved play for him. We will need it.
  15. This makes me sad as it now means I'll likely be treated to a Kevin Hart start when I'm there Sunday. Hope springs eternal.
  16. Expand upon this. I'm going to guess it has to do with the demonzing of Bonds/worshipping of Manny situation. yes. Not much can be done. He got caught, served his 50 games, and now he's back. Unless he gets caught again, he's going to be out there hitting the ball and people are going to cheer him. And being Dodger fans, they are going to hold out the hope that he is now doing it clean, kind of like how Cub fans did with Sosa. They're going to give him every benefit of the doubt that they can, because he makes the scoreboard number next to "Dodgers" go up. I don't really like it, but I'm pretty sure it would happen with other teams and their fans, too.
  17. I feel bad for how things turned out for him.
  18. 1 week to camp!
  19. It's pretty nice to see a day where the sports world focuses on Chicago, anyway. It was a fantastic performance. Good for him.
  20. Yeah, I'm a bit annoyed by it. So sue me.
  21. Favortism? What? Of course he wouldn't call the Cubs, or any other team...he's a White Sox fan. So then I guess the President should only have his favorite team to the White House if they win the World Series. Why should he have another team? He's not a fan. If a president didn't, who gives a crap? Plenty of people do. Why do you think there's coverage of the event when it happens. Because nobody cares?

  23. Apparently, hes already saved the economy, so whats left for him to do? Give his 2 cents on the Cambridge, Mass police department...sorry, that's for another thread... We all need a release from our work to stay sane. I don't see an issue with Obama congratulating Buerhle on one of the most rare feats in baseball... Besides, he probably does it to irk Hillary. Wait, or is she a Yankee fan ? If a Cub pitcher throws a perfect game, you can bet the phone will stay silent. I understand it's no big deal, but still. The favoritism is a bit annoying.
  24. You have to hand it the the guy, he took a lot of abuse from Detroit fans and the national media during the playoffs and never gave injury as an excuse for not performing well. Probably not that big of a deal if he is out until December but comes back healthy. Easy for you to say it's not a big deal. They reported on 670 today that the Hawks knew about the injury. I guess when you sign a guy for 12 [expletive] years, what's two months? (I am still in favor of the signing, but it does call into question the Hawks' FO decision-making once again) Shoulder injuries are pretty common... it's still a damn good deal. I don't know guys, I think it's a big deal. Hard to maintain an all-star level of play in hockey if your shoulder doesn't recover to full strength. This all depends on how serious it really is. Maybe Detroit knew something, too.
