In the world of sports talk radio, anyone who often uses VORP in player analysis is a stathead. He's really smart and really good for the most part. I tried listening for a few months a while back, and I wouldn't say he's smart. He's a baseball idiot and a mostly rational football guy, but not smart. I'd say his eloquence/articulacy, his broad knowledge in general about just about anything, and the fact that he's a Duke graduate make it safe enough to say that he's a smart guy, especially within the realm of sports radio. I know that's not necessarily relevant to what you're talking about, but I like the fact that I'm not listening to an idiot talking when I listen to their show, which you can't say about 9/10 people in sports radio. And to say he's a baseball "idiot" is just a tad hyperbolic, IMO. I generally don't listen to the show for baseball talk, though. Small guest spots aside, who is on the radio right now who really understands all the latest statistical analysis, and articulates it well? I never hear that, at all. Anywhere. Maybe I'm missing it. It's pretty much just web sites from what I know. Radio is full of entertainers, not statheads.
