  1. My main concern with the backup situation isn't with Hanie. It's that I would prefer a 3rd stringer who has some kind of upside. I fail to see the benefit to having someone like Basanez take reps in practice. He's not an NFL QB, and I would prefer someone who I can at least say has some potential, even if its years off. Other than that, I agree the bulk of the concern needs to be with Cutler and getting the 1st string offense to click as soon as possible. Without that, we're going nowhere.
  2. Brady was out all year last year and Matt Cassell led the Pats to 11 wins. Yeah, but that was a 16 win team that got to play the two crappy western divisions. He led them to 5 fewer wins. A typical 10 win team that suffers such a decline would be considered to have had a disastrous season. Maybe that's not the best example.
  3. That's because Cutler has all the confidence in the world to make any throw at any time. Sometimes that is a strength, sometimes it's a weakness. I don't mind the 10-15 INTs, as long as he is throwing 25-30 TDs. So what? So did Favre. By the way you just backed up the point of the guy you originally disagreed with. Someone said Cutler would likely force passes all year long. You said once he got comfortable you didn't think he would. Now you just said he might because he has a lot of confidence. You also said the most passes a Bears QB has thrown was 480. Last year the Bears threw 528 times and they'll probably increase that number simply because they have a legit QB now. So if he's healthy he'll probably throw 525-550 times this year. At his normal percentage that would put him at 16-18 interceptions. Which again is not a terrible thing when he's giving you everything else he can do. People were just saying you should expect that. What's your point with this? To remind us poor stupid Bear fans that Cutler will throw INTs because we can't figure out that he willl? I haven't heard anyone on here saying Cutler won't throw INTs.
  4. Yeah, he either has trouble conveying sincerity, or he's just going through the motions.
  5. Oh, I think you'll find that some Bear fans will spare no opportunity to complain about the starter, too.
  6. Ah, yes. *That* poster.
  7. At least they'll be able to hop on the plane and be rested, rather than not getting done until well into the evening.
  8. Backup qbs have come in and saved seasons in some cases. I disagree with your statement, it's too strong.
  9. I remember when Brohm was being talked about as a possible high pick in the draft. I think it was well before the actual draft happened though.

  11. I don't think it's necessarily a good thing to need to start him this quickly.
  12. One of the bright spots. If Steltz fails, would he be our guy?
  13. Yeah. I think we're going to see a resurgence of the questions about why the heck we have him on the roster. Pretty much anything would be better. There's nothing that shows me Basanez belongs in the NFL in any capacity.
  14. If anything, hopefully this will dampen the excessive hype machine now. It's fun to hear about all the camp surprises and great practices, but there are things that really do need work.
  15. True, an injury would be the biggest thing to keep him from settling in.
  16. Can't really take anything away from this defensively, though. Like 7 of our guys that are supposed to be starting on opening day aren't playing tonight. Very true. Im mostly just watching Kamp to see how he does. I'm predicting a biiiig year for Rodgers. Pro bowl, even.
  17. Good to know our backup defensive backfield also sucks.
  18. BRING BACK REX AMIRIGHT. \:D/ well no, but the training camp hype didn't translate in this particular game. lots of good throws, but also bad decisions Training camp hype is usually forgotten by the end of week 1. I've said all along it's going to take some time for Cutler to get comfortable.
  19. Balogh (sp?) just got raped by a Bills' backup. Not sure how he's looked elsewhere in camp, but that's not going to look very good for him in film review...
  20. For a big guy, Melton can really run. I saw this package in camp too. Not sure why they would actually do it though.
  21. They finally got it done near the goal line, but its disturbing to me to see the Bills converting 3rd downs all the way down the field on that last drive.
  22. I had decided not to post about Kyle's less-than-stellar debut, due to not wanting to seem harsh. Then I come here and see you guys are all over it, LOL. It's only the first preseason game. But I think what rubs it in is that Simms comes in and immediately the offense scores. Welcome to a QB controversy, Denver.
  23. I know. Bradley's OBP has been getting steadily better. He might just be one of these guys who takes a year or so to acclimatize. Sucks for this year, but next year could be really good for him. I'm not giving up on that contract, or Bradley, just yet.

Yeah, everyone always says "as long as they do it when the NFL isn't playing, it will work." Then leagues try that, and wind up bankrupt.
  25. It's interesting, what do they expect? Last year they had much better starting pitching. This year it's as bad as the Cubs have become without Lilly and Z. Macha's no miracle worker, but who is? They gave Yost the world at the trade deadline last year, and he eeked out a playoff berth. They gave Macha nothing, so now he's fired (potentially). I mean, it's his first year. Just seems really strange to me. I wonder if this is more about wanting a manager who will yell and scream more. Macha's very reserved.
