Anyone think an NFL team in Canada could work? Vancouver has an NFL-sized facility, and is a pretty large city. They currently get Seahawks games, I believe. Surely Toronto could support the "ex-Jags" as well or better than Jacksonville.

The Bears outplayed GB for most of the game and just basically had a worst case scenario in terms of turnover ratio (and one of the most idiotic plays I've ever seen) and the Steelers looked unimpressive against a Titans team who I don't think is all that great.... Take away any single one of those numerous horrible plays (the interceptions while in position to score, the screwed up routes, the fake punt, etc.) and the Bears could easily have won that game despite screwing up badly. They played better football and then basically blew it multiple times. It's too early to really say but I think GB is a better team than Tennessee... I'm worried about this game, and I expect a loss, but it isn't because of how either team looked in their first games. I didn't really come away impressed with the Steelers based on their first game... The Titans don't impress me all that much right now. The Packers impress me more. I agree it's early, but the Bears hung with what I consider to be the better of the two teams for the entire game until the end. Like you say -- they did this in spite of several mistakes and silly turnovers. The defense shut down what is surely a top 5 NFL offense for most of the game, and much of it without Urlacher. I'm not sure the Bears are going to win this weekend, but I also don't think it's insanity to think they *could* win.

Less severe in the NFL, but I think there's some pretty solid evidence to support not punting when you get to a certain yard line....like the 45 or something like that. In high school special teams are usually poor. Punting becomes far more likely to be a messy play. Some of the high school teams in my area can't really field a solid PK either, so they wind up going for two after most TDs. Exactly. There are definitely big spots in the NFL where the quality of the kicking and punting game changes things, but there are also lots of spots where teams should go for it and don't. I've never really understood punting from the other team's 40, for instance... especially if it's 4th and short. I think most coaches act on the fear of fan/management reaction if the field position switches and the other team scores, rather than adopting a policy of playing the odds. The way the mentality is, if it works 4 times but fails once, you'll spend the entire post-game presser answering questions about what a bonehead you were for not punting to pin them deep.

Ha I work for Dreams Inc. His autographs have plummeted over the years and this certainly won't help. I'm sure his autographs aren't worth what they once were, but that was going to happen no matter what as he exits the prime of his career. No offense to your bosses, but it's really stupid to jump to a conclusion about a player's career when the medical evidence says he can return next season. Also, his autographs will still have some value well after his career is over, as he is one of the more prominent players of the last 20 years for a very well-supported sports franchise. I think Urlacher's got a good case here. A contract is a contract.

Those deadlines are anything but....they'll extend it 48 hours if need be. And in a market like SD, the local fox/cbs station will buy out the remaining tickets if necessary probably. That game won't get blacked out. That stadium must be abominable. SD is a good team, with plenty of exciting players. They shouldn't even be having difficulty. SD is a reasonably sized market too.

He's pitching great, then he collapses. Shouldn't that be correctable? I know he's always been prone to that, but less than now. If they can just get him back to where he was before, he'll be fine. The multiple good innings tends to make me believe we can correct the one implosion inning.

I feel like if we were really going to sign him, it would have been done. Sapp was on 670 this morning saying anyone who thinks Brooks can't play is insane. FWIW.

I don't blame Mannelly for what he did. I blame the coaching for giving him the authority to make that call. I wasn't nearly as alarmed with the offense as I was pissed at the coaching staff. The game plan on offense was pathetic. So was the blocking. But why are you pissed at the coaching staff for allowing the captain to make such a play? That's not a play that should be happening at your own 26 yard line. The defense deserves much better than to turn the ball over there. I'm not opposed to a gamble play on occasion, but not so deep in your own territory. Not only did the play not work, it allowed the other team to score easily. Then, it cost the team a time out later in the game, which put even more burden on Cutler to make something happen. The offensive line sucked. But, from a coaching standpoint for offense and special teams, it was an embarrassment. Do you think the Bears are the only team in the league that allows a team captain to do a situational audible? What about when a QB audibles into a stupid play that results in a pick 6? Maybe the OC shouldn't allow QB audibles, either. If it had worked, you'd be calling it brilliant, and Mannelly is the perfect guy to give the responsibility because of his veteran knowledge. He screwed up, after years & years of flawless play. I nearly threw my couch across the room too, but it's over now and we still had plenty of chances to win after that play.

On that new NFL network show I saw Mora, Mariucci and Martz talking about how unprofessional he looked and how he doesn't "get it." He comes across as a douche quite a bit compared to other NFL quarterbacks. Both him and Rivers. Delhomme is a douche on the field but fairly professional in front of the media. If he were on my team and playing well I wouldn't care very much. Just like Bears fans will downplay it and say it doesn't matter but if he were doing some of the same things on the Vikings or Packers he would be called a grade-A douche on here. I just don't get it. I watched that entire post game press conference with him, and I didn't see anything at all to make me think he's some petulant child or anything like that. I just completely and totally disagree. People are seeing what they want to see. They're creating drama where none exists, IMO.

I'm pretty sure the Eagles' D is a tad more lively than that bunch from Detroit you saw last week.

NFL Fan rule #1: Never, ever, under any circumstances (but especially in dire circumstances) believe what an NFL head coach says. He's married to that D though.

I get these visions of Hunter getting beat all over the place and Bear fans sitting in silence, and Lovie on the sidelines showing no emotion......announcers declaring we're in deep trouble. I'm pretty concerned about this whole "Hunter is good and will pick up for Urlacher" bit. I'll believe it when I see it. Sure, Brian wasn't even as good as Briggs, but that doesn't mean much. One of the strengths of the D was the linebacker play, and most especially Urlacher's albeit fading ability to get back in the zone to cover up the gaping cover-2 holes that are characteristic of that defense. And Lovie said they won't change a thing, too? Oh yea, I'm *VERY* concerned about this. I think you should be, too.
