  1. Yep. They had a team meeting to discuss the overall suckyness, then went out and became even sucky-er, now they're in a world of suckitude. I guess that means they just suck.
  2. I'm all for a fire sale, but if you trade all of those guys (the only one I can understand is Zambrano), then you're guaranteed of not winning anything for at least the next 10 years. We're guaranteed to never win anything forever with our current method of doing business. I'll wait til this club is sold. Screw this noise for now, I've got plenty of things to keep me occupied this Summer. Everyone better get out to their local church and pray for a decent owner this time. I don't care if you're atheist, get your butt to that damn church and pray! 8-)
  3. As the old lady once said: Where's the beef?
  4. The hot dog vendor on Cubs.com just verified this information. Big news out of Wrigley tonight: we suck even more than yesterday.
  5. We're rapidly approaching the point where rooting for losses is more beneficial than rooting for wins.
  6. Ya know up until the rules change in like 1904, you could still bean the baserunner and have it counted as an out. That's what ruined us.
  7. They don't quite understand yet. This is the Cubs.
  8. I don't really like it either. Especially if Marmol is the last option in the pen.
  9. Suckitude. That's what it is, gentlemen. General, nebulous, overall......suckitude.
  10. Firing Hendry now would send a mesage to the entire organization that incompetence will not be tolerated at any level. It would also give a new GM a head start on evaluating the current talent and situation. Finally, a new GM could make decisions based on what is best for the long-term and not be forced to stick with Hendry's guys. Who would be sending the message though? These guys are all going to be fired anyway unless this team performs this year. I don't think hiring a new GM during the season will accomplish much towards that goal. God, this is a fine mess we're in now, eh? Wow.
  11. The only thing I can see is this: we don't know where this team would be with a good bullpen. A good BP might not be that hard to acquire. We've lost probably 10 games due to bullpen collapses this year. If 7 of those are wins, then we're 2 over and probably not in such an ugly mood. Remember that you have to subtract the losses away from the total as well in that scenario. If we had won 7 of the 10 games that the bullpen was terrible in (your scenario), the team would be 8 over right now and leading the division by 1 game. You're right, sorry I flaked on that one 8-)
  12. The fans would probably freak out if we sold ARam & Lee. But what other choice do we have? They're probably going to rot here on bad teams anyway unless we can get a good infusion of young talent. I don't know how else we would acquire it. The only thing I can see is this: we don't know where this team would be with a good bullpen. A good BP might not be that hard to acquire. 13. As per usual. I have a good brick wall. I find it helpful at times like this. You are welcome to use it, just be careful of the blood stains. ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)
  14. No matter how young you are, you still may never witness a Cub World Series appearance, much less a victory. I wouldn't feel comfortable guaranteeing that there is a single person on the planet right now that will witness a Cubs WS. It is very sad to know how close we came in 2003. Heck, I just want to see them in the World Series to kill that damn goat curse. After we went up 3-1 in the NLCS, I had my whole week planned to watch the World Series. I had someone ready to cover my paper route so I wouldn't have to worry about staying up late at night. But, it never came to be. I just want to see the Cubs at the big dance, and I'm not sure our current Veteran mentality is going to get us there. That's all I wanted too. Excuse me, I need to go cry now 8-)
  15. True. There's probably little value firing Jim now since the new owners will probably want to bring in their own people from the start anyway. This massive payroll, given the poor results, could actually hurt the market value of the Cubs. If we turn in a well-below .500 season with these bozos and this bloated salary structure, any prospective buyer is going to want to figure the cost of cleaning up the mess into the calculations. The good thing is, we could be a much better ballclub by simply having a successful bullpen, and the salaries there, while probably well above average, aren't the big ones on the team.
  16. I disagree. Good hitters should be able to launch first pitch fastballs right down the pipe over the bleachers. Ted Williams doesn't. Well, if you launch enough first pitch fastballs into the bleachers, then you won't see first pitch fastballs anymore. And then? You guessed it. You'll have to be more selective/patient.
  17. It's both, either/or depending on the night. Rarely do we play both sides of the ball well in the same game. I suppose we should have all expected this. Adding a buttload of new players who haven't played together, or in some cases haven't even played NL baseball should have been a flag that we would have trouble being a cohesive unit.
  18. At this point I'd wait before shelling out any cash for Cub games. This team is tanking right now and what's the point of spending hard earned cash to watch crap night after night? There's absolutely no guarantee the Cubs will pull out of it. I don't care what pythag or anyone else says. They very well might just continue to blow games all year long.
  19. Absolutely not. Selective means choosing the right pitch to hit regardless of the count, whereas patience means working the count - which in turn translates to two quick strikes and a third one in the dirt swung at. I wouldn't say absolutely not. They are very similar. You have to be patient in order to be selective. It's one thing if you just refuse to ever swing until you have 2 strikes, but I don't think that's what anybody really means when they talk about patience. It's the same thing. Semantics at most.
  20. No matter how young you are, you still may never witness a Cub World Series appearance, much less a victory. I wouldn't feel comfortable guaranteeing that there is a single person on the planet right now that will witness a Cubs WS.
  21. Sell for prospects. Everyone except Lee & ARam. Just blow it to hell. This is torture, watching such a heartless club.
  22. Well, time to bail on this bozo act and play some Oblivion. No sense ruining my entire night on this stupidity. Night.
