  1. Insane. This is the dumbest freaking baserunning I've ever seen. Seriously, it's like....WAY WORSE than Alou.
  2. Just once it would be nice to have the OTHER team strand runners @ 2nd and 3rd with no outs. Just once.
  3. In true Cub fashion, we're about to give it right back.
  4. Lee really needs to work on his power stroke.
  5. Yeah, glad we had Izzy to get on base ahead of him, too!
  6. http://snltranscripts.jt.org/89/89gpitman.phtml Hilarious deadpan delivery ... just reading the transcript something will be lost if you haven't seen the skit. That was Goodman, IIRC, playing the ref. Good stuff thx :)
  7. What were all those questions from the Saturday Night Live skit, again? 8-)
  8. Good Lord, this is a no-brainer. SELL any of these bloated, ridiculous contracts for prospects. This is about digging ourselves out from under a mile of junk, ladies and gents. SELL SELL SELL.
  9. 1) This 'we the people' thing. It's outdated. Dump it. 2) Stop wasting time browbeating each other in stupid 'deliberation' sessions that accomplish nothing. 3) Lawyers are an inefficient, unnecessary layer of bureaucracy. Let each defendant defend him or her self. Trust me, they'll figure it out if they know what's good for them. 4) The public is too fickle and stupid for court trials. Make them all secret to avoid idiots who don't know what they're talking about stirring up hysteria over things they do not understand. 5) One man, one vote. Hey, it works for elections don't it?? 6) The French are obviously smarter than we are. Let them decide who is guilty and/or innocent. Oh yes, that's right --- people can be both at the same time in France! 7) If all else fails, give my secretary your number. I'll guarantee a one week turnaround -- no questions asked.....or expected.
  10. Zambrano acknowledged the drop in velocity, but never attributed it to anything, other than being 'not injured'. He might not necessarily know he's injured. He acknowledges the drop in velocity, yet cannot explain it. That means an injury is still very much in play as far as I'm concerned.
  11. Just me feeling on this: I think the Giants will start holding Bonds out of the lineup on road games when he gets within one of the record.
  12. Just to throw more fuel on the fire, on WGN radio tonight one of the hosts was at the game today, and asked a scout about Zambrano. He replied that Zambrano's fastball is consistently down 5 MPH this year, using more than one radar gun for info. He also said that, in his opinion, Carlos is injured. Just reporting what I heard. That is all.
  13. I'm not wasting any more of my holiday on this crap. See you later everyone, have a good day.
  14. Think I've seen this script before. Are you sure we've played more than, say, 5 games this year? Seems like we're repeating the same 5 scripts over & over & over.
  15. Hooray for making another bozo look like Cy Young.
  16. Judging by his ERA, I'm guessing he never has good stuff. ...which of course means he'll shut us out.
  17. No, but gameday just died for me. haven't had an update in 5 minutes.
  18. Yeah sure. You'll care about it when it comes. That's when you would be calling Lou a moron for burning out the BP arms. Sorry, seen this act too many times before. It's really easy to make an argument when you are making up what the opinion is of the people you're arguing against. Yeah, well I've seen these scenarios play out on this and other message boards for too many years. It's pretty much always the same story. Always ends up with the board members geniuses and the managers idiots. How convenient. Nah Lou is doing plenty of things to justify him being an idiot. But you try winning games right now and come July or Aug then you see how your bp is, if their arms are tired then you see what you have in the minors or what teams are trading parts of their bullpen. If we dont start winning these games the tiredness of our bp isnt going to matter in August. Hell in any other year besides this year, August wouldnt matter right now cause of Lous terrible bullpen use, and decision making. Lou and the Cubs are just extremely lucky this division blows. I'm not sure I would characterize it as luck, when anyone can look at the standings and see the division blows. You manage the season as it is, with the conditions that are in place for that season. What you are describing is terribly short-term management, and if I may say so, myopic. I'm glad Lou isn't doing that. Revamping an entire bullpen, or even a significant part of it, is hard enough when you have an entire offseason, to say nothing of trying to do it out of desperation mid-stream because you blew out your best arms.
  19. Agreed, it wasn't a bad gamble for the price at the time. Taking a flyer on these castoff-type surgery cases has yielded us Dempster, and Miller. One worked out, one didn't. Not too bad. Time to release Wade.
