  1. Sheffield needs some brain steroids.
  2. I think something like that would piss Z off. I know it shouldn't, especially if he had a chance at making a World Series run and then resigning with us, but I could see that bruising his ego. Everything pisses Z off. I don't think worrying about Z's ego being bruised is a good policy for this franchise.
  3. Nice to see the COBS padding the stats today, which will make run differential, NL ERA, NL Avg., pythag, and just about everything else look better despite the fact that they still suck bones.
  4. Indeed it is..... don't get too used to it Did you hear the interview with Hendry? He said Pie was here to stay. He's also said we have one of the best bullpens in the NL. Hendry can hardly be trusted. Well, hopefully he's here for a bit longer at least.
  5. Sometimes losing just isn't enough. At times like this, just start beating on each other. When you need that little extra kick of loserdom, reach out and beat the hell out of your teammate.
  6. I guess this year's going to be all about how low they can really sink. How low.... ....can u go? Great team you've put together here, Jim.
  7. Classy. LOL, yeah. Wonderful isn't it? Who knows if it's true, but just looking at Z and the way the whole day went, it wouldn't be suprising.
  8. Yeah, there appears to be no way to excuse Z's behavior today. We've always known he's not in control of his emotions. We've always hoped he would mature and get better. Now it's pretty clear he's not doing it. Now that he can't dominate hitters, he's descending into the blame game and acting very poorly. God, what a team.
  9. I don't get it though. Yeah, Barrett's never been an above average defensive catcher, but now he's just gone through the bottom of the tank. He's worse than a freaking pee wee catcher now. I don't remember him being an idiot on the basepads like this either? Maybe a few times, but not every damn game? What the hell, I really want to know why Barrett has tanked so sharply in such a short period of time. Z I can understand a little. He's an abused pitcher and I'm convinced there is an unreported injury waiting to be revealed. I don't get Barrett.
  10. What I'd like to be next? Start building a team that knows how to actually play, regardless of what that means for the current players. This team is a $115 million turd. Any notion of untouchable players is ridiculous.
  11. Yeah I guess that would be the one thing. I'd rather let Lou & Hendry pigeonhole Murton this season. Hopefully with the new owner they'll both be gone and then we can find out about Murton next year.
  12. IBL or IBM, whichever. Sammy Sosa: still the best Cub outfielder playing the major leagues.
  13. Oh, I'm sure they're having another high-level meeting to see about implementing those changes and maybe hiring me and giving me a hefty bonus and... Well, you get it. It might well be obvious, but not to those in charge, apparently. Thanks for the dicussion. If you were overweight and pitched left handed they'd hire you. It's not too late. Pack on the pounds and get that arm in shape. Since when did the Cubs care about whether a pitcher's arm is actually in shape before signing him? :D Oh they care, more than any other team. If a pitcher's arm is in shape, then that's the guy they don't sign, under any circumstances.
  14. Certainly Blanco's offense is terrible, but he's still a well-respected defensive catcher and really puts Barrett to shame in that department. The real problem isn't that we might have to play a defense-only catcher. Many teams do, and they win with it. It's just that the rest of our offense down in the order is so terrible it creates a black hole 7,8,9. I'm getting sick of watching Barrett throw games down the toilet so either he needs to get his head out of his ass or we need another catcher. If you think you're sick of Barrett making a boneheaded mistake every few games, wait until you get that sinking feeling in your chest when Blanco is coming up to bat in crucial situations... which is likely to happen much more often than Barrett getting picked off. Every few games? It's been more than once per game lately. And his bat hasn't been all that great anyway. I already cringe when Barrett comes to bat, not going to be much difference with Blanco sucking too. At least Blanco won't throw the ball behind a damn runner, which any little league catcher knows not to do.
  15. Knowing our luck, probably Rupert Murdoch ok, i have a myspace account, but i would NEVER support the cubs in ANY WAY if murdoch was the owner. NEVER. Yeah right, keep telling yourself that. Some of these Tribune executive types easily share Rupert's political philosophy, hasn't stopped you from supporting the Cubs yet.
  16. It's just that Hendry rarely does what obviously needs to be done.

  18. I don't think it's just you. I'm seeing slowness more often than usual, even just trying to get to the site. I know there's not as much traffic now since the Cubs are tanking, so I don't know what's happening.
  19. No we haven't. Why does everybody always talk about RISP? The Cubs have had only the 7th most AB with RISP this season, but they rank 3rd in OPS and 1st in AVG for the season. That means fewer chances than some, but much greater rate of cashing in. Over the last 7 days, when the offense has sucked, their OBP ranks 13th in the league, which means much fewer chances than normal. The Cubs aren't failing with RISP at an alarming rate. The problem is they aren't getting into scoring position. The few hits they've had are measly singles. And they aren't drawing walks. To add insult to injury, they are making outs on the basepaths with their stupid over aggressive mindset of trying to make things happen. It is rather difficult to drive in runs when your baserunners keep getting picked off, yes.
  20. I think I'm going to learn how to play this Summer. You know, Cub fan, used to sucking. Why not.
  21. The bullpen really eats at me. Eyre and Howry are done. They are old and they were signed to silly contracts. The offense and this bullpen share the burden of a 2-12 record in 1-run games. The bullpen won't get better overnight. It has to be crafted with a mix of young pitchers, a good closer, and an experienced pitcher or two who isn't over the hill. Arizona doesn't have a pitcher in the bullpen over 28-yrs old. Those pitchers have developed or are almost there. Arizona is 15-5 in 1-run games - the best in baseball. The top 5 guys in their bullpen either developed through the system or have spent at least 3 years in the system. As for the Cubs, the only pitcher in the pen even worth bragging about is Michael Wuertz. ..and he's starting to take on water too.
  22. This word, 'value.' What does it mean, again? I think I heard it once, long long ago.
  23. Real changes? Like firing the manager and most of the coaching staff, then spending $300 million on FAs? Or are you referring to firing the GM and hiring a new GM that actually has a 3 year plan to get and stay competitieve? Hendry had a plan as well until that plan started to fail and his job was on the line. Hendry has a plan, but usually a bad one that changes every year so nothing ever gets accomplished. Hendry & Snyder(Redskins) should get together. Hendry's Snyder's kind of guy. To hell with player development, just take all the cash and blow it on the latest FA's, put together your ballclub like a jigsaw puzzle and then act shocked when it doesn't work.
  24. Yeah, pretty crazy stuff. It's amazing how this team just tosses itself into the abyss each year. I don't see how they come back now. Someone clue me in because I'm not seeing it. I'm hoping for it. Wishing for it. Just not seeing it.
