  1. I saw that too, which is why I'm pretty sure they'll drop one somewhere. I just don't think it will be more than 1 game.
  2. I don't understand the comparison at all. Estes had a 74 ERA+ with the Cubs (lower before his final game) and hadn't had a quality start since August 8th before his great start to end his year. Meanwhile Marquis has a 105 ERA+ and has had 3 quality starts out of 5 in September. There is simply no basis for comparison between the two. You're reading too much into it. All he's saying is that he hopes Marquis can pitch a gem like Estes did in 2003. Both of them weren't highly thought of all year long, only to pitch a gem when we really needed it toward the end of the season. Estes wasn't highly thought of for a reason. Marquis hasn't been highly thought of because everyone for the most part ripped his signing and are unwilling to admit he hasn't been that bad. I think that is the point he's trying to make. So we'll just hopefully call it the "Marquis Game" and be done with it. Any way we can get your avatar to troll around in front of the Brewer's dugout for.....oh, the next 5 games? 8-)
  3. I find it likely the Crew goes 4-1 the rest of the way. If they go 3-2 it will be a miracle. They've an outside shot at sweeping out. We need to win games, people. I highly suggest that it start tonight. Going 3-2 would be a miracle? While I would certainly not count on anything less than 5-0 from them...the sky is falling mentality is hilarious. Sky is falling mentality? I seriously find it highly likely the Crew will only lose 1 more game. They're one of the best teams in the league at home, they've got one more against a tomato can and 4 more against a team that just lost one of their biggest power hitters and hasn't been playing all that great lately. Why is that a 'sky is falling' mentality? That's an honest evaluation based on what I believe to be real factors.
  4. Soul Soul Soul. You always freak out. If the Cubs don't win today, others who are less apt to freak out will start. :) I know :) I also find it mildly interesting how much easier life would be right now if the Cubs were either up by 8, or ironically, down by 8 games. The Cubs are like a marriage that's on the ropes. You want so much pleasure, but you get so much pain 8-)
  5. I suggest you start winning tonight, Cubs. Or else I shall freak out.

  7. Absolutely. It's been quite a refreshing year on the whole. Every manager makes some stupid decisions, it just happens over the course of 162 games. But more often than not Lou has been damn good. We blow this lead? He'll be crucified. Think Rex-type crucifixion.
  8. Oh, it's that guy. Crew will score 10 tonight for sure.
  9. Hahahah. Please don't make me freak out man!
  10. Oh man...I agree. I have such a bad feeling. I pray the Cubs come out with guns blazing tomorrow. It's hard not to have bad feelings with this club. I'm just approaching it from the perspective that we're a marginal playoff club anyway -- it's not like in '04. I will go to my grave believing that was a playoff team, possibly a World Series team, that choked hard. This year I had us at 81-81, we're already beyond what I expected. If they can't take care of business here at the end? We simply didn't deserve it, didn't quite have enough bullets in the gun. Especially considering who we are facing. On the other hand, the NL competition is looking as weak as ever this year, and the Cubs, when healthy (so outside of the 3 weeks sans-Sori) have played like a 100 win team since June. EDIT - and that's a pretty solid sample of like 80+ games. Yeah that's true. Here's another 2 weak teams lined up for us, playing like an 81 win team should be enough.

  12. Everybody needs to stop freaking out. If I gave you the choice four days ago that the Cubs would take 3 out of 4 from the upcoming four lefties, I guarantee you everybody here would take that. Not freaking out, but things do change rather drastically if the Crew gets to only 1 game back. That's when I start to freak out! Hehe. We need to put in a phone call to the Cubs: "umm, now would be a good time to start winning."
  13. because they've won 3 in a row? they lost 4 in a row right before that At least they haven't given up, like the Cards. It's interesting to see a team that won the World Series last year play with such a lack of pride. more like lack of talent Did Wainwright, Eckstein, Edmonds, Spiezo, Ankiel, Miles and that Pujols guy all of a sudden all become talentless bums? The moment Pujols got hurt, yes. Edmonds has sucked all season now that he's old, Ankiel since everyone got the memo on the hole in his swing. Eckstein is ok, Spiezo and Miles suck. You got me on Wainwright having a horrid game against the Brewers. He tanked it. Come on. Search your heart. You know it to be true.

  15. Breaking news: the Crew will win again tonight. I highly suggest we start winning our baseball games.

As for the bolded no not all of a sudden, its been like that for awhile. As for Edmonds, it hasnt been all of a sudden, its been this year, hes old and his body is beat up. Hes not the early 2000's Edmonds. As for Pujols, the guy is hurt. He could barely make it around the bases last night. [/b] They've still got enough talent on that roster to not get blown out by 7 runs every game. Time to face it: the Cards are tanking it. Thanks Tony.

Considering the Marlins only had 3 Marlin fans in the stands last night, you would think they would do anything possibly to please the visiting team fans. Seriously. I think at this point that whole org probably just wants to leave Florida. They've been told "no" at every turn to try to get a new stadium, the fans never show up. It's a joke down there. Seriously, it's like Montreal all over again. LOL, Marlins games in Puerto Rico in '08?
  18. Truthfully, Peavy on 3 days rest (he gave up 8ER in 4IP when he did it earlier this month), Young (0-3 7.00 ERA in September, 0-2 5.68 ERA in August), and Maddux (fly ball pitcher) don't really excite me in this series. Don't pin your hopes on those guys. If he pitches Wednesday and then doesn't return until Sunday it's 4 days. Wed - Thurs 1 day Thurs - Fri 2 days Fri - Sat 3 days Sat - Sun 4 days I think he could be just fine doing that. I think Mad dog will pitch well with the playoffs on the line. Not sure about Young.
  19. We've got to think in terms of winning 2/3 from the Reds at least.

He threw his bat halfway to 1st base. Honestly, I was hoping ARam wasn't going to be playing with a suspension. That ump was total crap with the 1-foot off the plate calls, but ARam's got to think about the big picture. He was playing with fire there. Edit: another thing I didn't like is, it looked to me with DeRo and Aram flipping out, that it was obvious the Cubs were pressing. That's not good, not good at all if it's true. You can't be pressing with a 3 game lead -- just go out and play your game. If they start pushing, looking over their shoulder, freaking out -- the Crew really will catch us.

  22. Give me a few more of these teams to line up against the Brewers instead of the Cards, who tank in about the 6th inning of every game and then walk off the field like they're late for their vacation flights.
  23. I didn't even know that! They were down when I went to bed. So Peavy pitches tonight, so he could pitch on Sat. or Sun. Hopefully Peavy pitching tonight will propel them to a win -- that would help, because I doubt seriously both the Phils & Rockies will lose, so someone will be within 1 game of the Padres heading into the final 4 games. At least we'll get one team who will come to play against the Brewers. If they can beat up on the Padres playing for their lives? So be it.
  24. Ready for the Cards to tank another one? Good times.
  25. A team responding positively or negatively to pressure, on the other hand, does.
