  1. So, Dontrelle Willis 2007: ERA: 5.32 WHIP: 1.618 (!) ERA+: 80 His last 5 games,ER: 6 2 7 5 3 This is not the same pitcher who used to dominate.
  2. LOL, nice. 29 of those in '74, BTW. He was the ultimate pinch runner that year. I wonder how many squeeze plays they had him run?
  3. I don't get this. after screwing up the double switch and getting ejected in April 2004, Dusty never again was ejected for his own actions (I believer there were a couple that happened automatically due to beanball wars). he decided that sticking up for his players was not important because he looked foolish in his sons eyes. Is that really what it was? I could never understand that. I remember in '03 he got into this shouting match with LaRussa and it was awesome. I never really saw him do crap afterwards and it still confuses me.
  4. What ledge? How many games do you think we will lose to the likes of the Marlins and the Reds? Soul? Is that you? Talking sense into the overly pessimistic? Weren't you one of them just a while back? ;) Anyway, the magic number is 4. In the (after tonight) 12 games left, when the number of Cubs wins and Brewers losses = 4, it'll be over. Could be as soon as Wed night, could take slightly longer. But it will happen. If it doesn't, the Cubs will have had a disastrous (think far worse than 2004) finish and wouldn't deserve to get in, anyway. Yeah, it's me. Not going to cower in a corner over this thing anymore. This race is in our hands. We either win a few games against what should be marginal opposition or else we don't deserve it. It's really that simple. It's the Crew that have dropped 11 games in the standings since the All-Star break. Not us. We need to start acting like it. They're the ones who have collapsed.
  5. They're 4-6 in their last 10, and have lost their last 2. Hardly the juggernaut they were (for a little while -- it was a brief blip). As for Harrang, the Giants just hung 5 runs on him and he blew a big lead. Yes, those Giants, without Barry.
  6. Haha, that's rich. So selective memory apparently can block out a complete collapse by your baseball team from 8 1/2 up to 3 1/2 down.
  7. What ledge? How many games do you think we will lose to the likes of the Marlins and the Reds? I hoping we clinch in Miami, but we're too close and I'm feeling nervous Win a few games against the worst in the NL. That's all. Otherwise it's done. I don't think that's too much to ask of a "playoff team." BTW, I don't think many would consider a 3 game lead with 6 left to be "too close." We've been dueling the Brewers within a game or two for a month now. Do you realize that 3 1/2 games back is the furthest out of first place that they've been ALL YEAR?
  8. Yeah, I'm getting perturbed at this B.S. now. If we can't win at least 3 games this week against these teams then we don't deserve the playoffs anyway. I mean this is cotton candy, look at this crap. Had enough of this hiding and cowering. It's a 3 game lead with 6 left and we've got tomato cans lined up in front of us. Seriously, just win some damn games and forget everything else. Otherwise go home.
  9. What ledge? How many games do you think we will lose to the likes of the Marlins and the Reds?
  10. This is ridiculous. The Marlins are likely going to finish with under 70 wins. They've lost 3 in a row. They have a *HORRIBLE* home record. 33-45. Only Baltimore is as bad. They are pitching 3 meatballs with 5+ ERAs in the series. Their top pitcher this year is Dontrelle Willis, who has 9 wins. 9!! They rank 16th in the NL with a team 4.98 ERA. That's last. They rank 15th in the NL with a .286 BAA. 2nd to last. Enough of this crap. It is IN OUR HANDS, forget the Brewers and win these games.
  11. Cub just concentrate on your own damn games and ignore the Brewers, plz. Thanks.
  12. Game over. Don't you start losing, Cubs.
  13. Game over in 3...2...1 Note to Cubs: it ain't over yet. Don't let up.
  14. Hardy doubles. Wainright has no interest in pitching like he's capable tonight.
  15. LOL, this one's going to be over early.
  16. Wainright promptly begins tanking it.
  17. Yes, it means people sitting in downtown Chicago won't get to see the Cubs if they don't have cable. Or satellite. Of course you can just go to your local bar, but seems stupid to have to when your own team is playing a playoff game.
  18. Time for another shipment of HGH Ankiel.
  19. Don't know what will happen in that SD series, but don't be suprised if the Crew sweeps the Cards. With ease. Tonight is probably the best chance the Cards have. We need to just win our games. I doubt the Crew is going to oblige by tanking games against this crap team.
  20. It would not surprise me if the Brewers go 7-0 the rest of the way. Cameron and Bradley are both out so the Padres have next to no offense left. Young has been bad since his injury and I still don't think Peavy will pitch in the series. Now I'm not saying to expect 7-0 but it will not be a surprise if it happens either. The problem is I think even if the Brewers go 7-0 the Cubs still take the division. I'm going to nitpick the wording here, because I think winning 7 in a row would be a surprise for pretty much any team, especially when that stretch is set to begin immediately following three consecutive losses. It's my no means out of the realm of possibility, but it would most certainly be a surprise were it to actually happen. That would be an amazing feat by the Brewers. I never say never. They're at home, playing for their lives. Nobody knows what that can do to a team. Might help 'em, might hurt 'em. I wouldn't be suprised to see 'em rape the Cards 3 in a row. That would continue to put some pressure on us, especially if we drop the first game in Florida. 3 games up can evaporate to 1 game up pretty quickly, and then all the numbers we're looking at right now change dramatically. So it's not over, the Cubs still need to win their games. Cannot let up at all. Not one bit.
  21. I'll just agree that both guys share some blame and leave it at that. That's gotta completely suck to blow out your knee getting restrained by your own coach though. I didn't see the replay but wow he must have been freaking out to the nth degree to tear a ligament like that. I hope the ump receives appropriate punishment, there's got to be some accountability for these guys beyond being left off the playoff crews (i.e. essentially a longer vacation).
  22. Zambrano dropping off a lot of people's lists. Oh ye of little faith... I'll still put him there: 1) Ramirez 2) Zambrano 3) Lee 4) DeRosa 5) Woody (for old times' sake) Honorable mention: Marmol, Ward, Murton
  23. Alright. O.K. hahah, very funny. It's generally standard practice that players are under one-year contracts during their early years until they are close to eligible for free agency. The extension Z recently signed is his first multi-year contract. Soul's player contract lesson #1 for Monday September 24th. I told you I don't follow the ins & outs of how MLB contracts are done. I know much more about football. I'm the guy who didn't know you can shuttle a player up & down from the minors and it uses up one slot. I'll freely admit to being a lightweight when it comes to these things.
  24. I wouldn't call it hurting the Cubs. I would call the help to the Brewers in the season and the hurting of the Padres in the playoffs about equal as far as the Cubs are concerned. Gotta get there first, man-dinga  But I do see your point. True. But I'd say the odds of Bradley hurting the Cubs if the Pads and Cubs met up in the playoffs were better than any chance the Brewers have to knock the Cubs off. It's over. If we blow it in some absurdly epic fashion, you can all blame me. Hell, I almost feel inclined to really laugh in fate's face and post the pictures of the Cubs division champ gear in that other thread. ;) LOL, cool. You've got enough guts for both of us then 8-)
  25. Alright. O.K. hahah, very funny.
