  1. Well I'm pretty sure he didn't have any writers prepare his speech for him. he may as well have, it might have been more convincing if he had practiced it. I think T.O. might be slightly manic/depressive -- he seems to mood swing at the weirdest times. It didn't seem like something to cry about. I see it potentially as a means of getting the attention focused back on him. The reporters were focused on Romo and his escapades in Mexico with Jessica Simpson and TO wanted the focus back on him - so he teared up in the press conference. I could very well be wrong, but I wouldn't put it past TO for a second. For what it's worth for TO fans, I doubt it was pre-meditated either way.
  2. yes, there's also the regular season, which concludes with teams like indy, gb and dallas sitting a lot of their regulars for the last week or two because they're already locked into their playoff spot. 95% of people who don't want a college football playoff (16 teams, say) feel that way not because they think a playoff would be boring, but because it would cheapen what is the most important "regular season" in major sports. and I contend that it the regular season being so "important" is ruining what could be a good thing And I can't figure out why it's more important to have an important regular season than an important postseason. Seems to me like sports are played to win in the postseason primarily, so why cheapen that to make the regular season more important?
  3. Dang, I was hoping Maualuga would leave since he's been linked to the Titans to fill the MLB role. Fowler and Tulloch did a solid job this year, but putting Rey in with Bulluck and Thornton would have been ridiculous.
  4. Not sure what Mallett had against Clawson's spread offense. Everybody familiar with him says he prefers the traditional drop-back passer. Seems like Mallett would have liked the four and five wide spreads Clawson seems to like to employ. I think he'll be happy in Arkansas, though. Playing under Bobby Petrino for a year or two until Petrino slips out in the dead of night for the next gig.
  5. Sarcasm or have you heard something I haven't? Every source I've seen says he's going pro. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=jm-ingramdraft010308&prov=yhoo&type=lgns I've seen it on ESPN too.
  6. I think he will close. I don't expect as good, but I think he has all the potential in the world. If you were the Falcons and the Pats offered you Maroney and the #7 pick for the #3 pick and say a 2nd or 3rd round pick would they do it. The Falcons should accept that. Get a RB, can still draft a QB (Ryan/Brohm) at 7 and get an extra pick. I think the Falcons would like to get a QB, but I don't think they will get one with McFadden on the board. I definitely would not if I were the Falcons. They've already got a strong running game with Warrick Dunn and Jerrious Norwood - the only reason to take McFadden is if they believe he's a special player (which I do). Maroney would be an improvement over the current duo, but not enough to warrant moving down four spots and giving up either a second or third rounder. Now if the Pats were to offer up a very good young o-lineman (Wesley Britt?) along with the 7 and maybe a later (4th or later probably) rounder, that's a much more fair deal for Atlanta. Because of Dunn/Norwood and the other pressing needs, I could easily see the Falcons trading down to the late top 10/early teens and grabbing a QB there as well as stockpiling picks.
  7. Nah, he's a little too old..instead, they just got the younger version instead. First Tiller: http://graphics.jsonline.com/graphics/badger/mugs/2006/joetiller.jpg Now Brimley: http://www.nndb.com/people/593/000022527/wilford-brimley-crop.jpg Now Hope: http://www.ekusports.com/stats/Rosters_Images/Hope_Danny.jpg How does Purdue find all these guys? That is awesome. Unlike Purdue, at least Hendry doesn't acquire players based on their facial hair.
  8. Not sure how crazy I am about Tennessee potentially hiring Debord after hearing the complaining on here, but if he brings Loeffler and Mallett with him, I think I can stand him. For the Michigan fans out there, how much input did Lloyd Carr have on the Michigan offense? Did Carr demand the much-maligned "run-left" offense or was it the brainchild of DeBord? And do ya'll think DeBord would open things up if allowed to? Also, for Raisin and others interested: Plus in the same article, Adrian Arrington and Mario Manningham will both declare for the NFL. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/football/ncaa/01/11/bc.fbc.clawson.tennessee.ap/ Richmond HC Dave Clawson to be Tennessee's new OC. Looks like Loeffler is still out there (and Mallett too?). Heard last night it was pretty much a done deal. I really like the move - I think Clawson is a better pure option for the coordinator position than DeBord. Would have been nice to get Loeffler and Mallett though. Clawson worked with QBs at Richmond, but maybe Fulmer won't want to heap that kind of responsibility on him so early and will still bring in Loeffler and Mallett. Clawson is going to be the QB coach too, so it looks like UT is out of the running for Loeffler - and likely Mallett too. :( Oh well, Clawson is a better option than DeBord was and that's more important anyway.

  10. They do like Jon Lieber. They feel he can pitch well in Wrigley Field. Such a move, of course, would no doubt lead to further moves with a crowded rotation. Or Dempster I'd say.
  11. There's a very good chance Tennessee hires Mike DeBord and Steve Loeffler, meaning Mallett would be headed to the Vols - according to reports. I'd say the two most likely destinations right now are UT and UCLA - the two teams most interested in Loeffler. Personally, I'd love Mallett at Tennessee because he'd have a couple years to work on his accuracy issues while Jonathon Crompton starts. Or, if he looks great after his transfer year, he could beat out Crompton in 09.
  12. Man, he's really making the rounds. Fulmer met with Loeffler and DeBord today also. I've heard Phil could make a decision as early as tomorrow. They're probably all in Anaheim for the coaching convention. Ahh, good point. Forgot about that.

  15. Watching them over the past couple of years, I've started to really like the way they play. Don't know if it was more June Jones or the team, but I began pulling for them a little this year. Wonder who they're looking at for a new head coach? I'm not afraid to admit it. I jumped on Hawaii's bandwagon. I love the way they play and I hope that doesn't really change even with Jones' departure. He's got a huge task in front of him at SMU. If he can turn that program around to where it once was, he's going to have a pretty good lasting legacy. That's kind of what I feel bad about - being accused of being a bandwagoner. Thing is, I'm not becoming a fan because of their success but because of the way they play and the game atmosphere. I watched every Hawaii game I could this year and their atmosphere during games is solid. The fanbase seems excited and really gets into the games (it seems). I'll still live and die with Tennessee, but I'm rooting for Hawaii from now on too. And like you Flames, I hope they keep the run and shoot in place.

Wonder who they're looking at for a new head coach? Well, they won't have an AD to conduct the search. Herman Frazier is stepping down tomorrow. Dang. Turnover like crazy. I'm going to have to watch another coaching (and AD now) search.
  17. I cant think of any. Eddie George? Or did he leave early? It's bad that I can't remember since he was a Titan for years.

  19. how can someone write that article and never once type out "Southern Methodist University'"? What if a casual fan thinks this is Southern Miss? Dumb Isn't Southern Miss USM? It is indeed, and USM's coach didn't leave. He actually did. USM's coach was forced to resign and they hired Oklahoma State's offensive coordinator to replace him. And then OSU hired Trooper Taylor away from Tennessee.
  20. The 1st Quarter red zone turnover really hurt. Yeah, Chris Brown's fumble was pretty bad. He just wasn't protecting the ball. You don't leap through the middle of the field cradling the ball with just one hand - it's not smart. We couldn't stop the deep pass late either. They dominated at the line of scrimmage and gave Rivers time to find people depp late in the game.
  21. I didn't expect us to win this game, but it still really, really sucks to lose it. Twice we've folded late in a game we dominated early on. I hate the Chargers.
  22. yeah coaching is the biggest mismatch in this game, and fortunately for the titans, a very good coach can make a decent team better than a very good team coached by the village idiot. Exactly. Fisher gets the best out of his team, Norv gets the worst. One is the sign of a great coach, the other is not.
  23. Yeah, they're doing much better in the playoffs this year than they did last year. Much better. 8-) Titan defense is absolutely amazing so far, though. It's not all Norv's fault - right now at least.
  24. I didn't see/hear that. That's completely absurd and ridiculous. It actually makes me a little angry; they get paid for their opinion. Turner may be a good OC, but he's been terrible as a head coach. Fischer, on the other hand, is a top-5, at least, head coach. Coaching is a HUGE mismatch in that game. Unbelievable. Yeah, I laughed quite a bit when they said that. It was bad enough when Emmitt said that he would surprise some people with his pick, but then Jackson said Turner was an advantage as if it's common knowledge. How can 1-1 career in the playoffs and under .500 career regular season (Turner) be better than 5-4 career playoff record - with a Super Bowl appearance - and over .500 career regular season?
  25. Both Emmitt Smith and Tom Jackson gave the COACHING edge in the SD/Ten game to Norv Turner. I'm honestly speechless that probably the worst coach currently active could get the coaching edge over anybody, much less one of the better coaches in the league. They cited Norv's postseason experience as why he was better than Fisher. Really? Norv has never been to the Super Bowl (Fisher has) and Fisher has plenty of playoff experience. How in the world do you give Norv Turner the edge in coaching over anybody, much less a coach like Jeff Fisher? :-k Jackson also gave the defensive edge to the Chargers, which I completely disagree with but understand, but coaching? How?
