  1. Warren's got to keep his feet there.
  2. I don't know, some of those triple option and wing-T quarterbacks were pretty awesome. That's what I mean. John Parker Wilson isn't a good quarterback because he all of a sudden holds the career passing marks at Alabama. The game is just so much different with regards to the passing game. For example, Brady Quinn was the first QB to throw for 3,000 yards at ND and they've had a ton of great signal callers. I understand your point and agree. I've argued for a couple years now that John Parker Wilson is a very mediocre QB who is currently playing well because he has a great running game and good receivers. He's holding records largely because he's played (I believe) four years now.
  3. Decent start for Tennessee on the first drive. Bama drove it with pretty fair ease, but the Vol d-line was getting some pressure and the drive ultimately ended with a field goal. 3-0 Bama

  5. As much as it pains me to say it, but yeah, LSU prolly is barely a Top 25 team much less a Top 15 team. Bo Pelini is a great coach.
  6. I'd be ecstatic with just a Pie/Ceda for Hermida deal, but IF we could get them to throw in Gregg for Castillo and Cedeno, I might be interested. That said, you're probably right about the history closing overvaluing him and at that point, I'd lose interest. That's a lot to give up. I think that might be pushing it on Hermida, but I'd do the deal because Hermida would conceivably fit a need and be a Cub for 3-4 years. I don't know that Cedeno has much value anymore - and I'm not real optimistic about his ability to be any more than a decent bat off the bench. I'm a bit lower on him than others, and I guess that explains my willingness to trade him. I'm with you, dew. You can't beat out Ryan Theriot, then you don't have much value as anything more then a utility player. I know the predictive models are not on my side, but I just haven't seen him make the adjustments necessary to have success at the major league level. He's not patient enough. I could well be wrong and I grant that he might if he had more playing time, but I'm not confident that he would.
  7. You'll look extremely nerdy. And I mean that in a good way. I'll try to post a picture when I take one. I'm holding you to it.

  9. Thanks Jim. Not glad he's hurt, but I like the sound of him missing this game. No offense, but it's likely the Colts will have all kinds of trouble stopping the Titan run game without him.
  10. Wood is the one player I have real difficulty separating emotional attachment from a cold business-like approach. I would be extremely sad to see him go, and, to me, think it's worth overpaying to keep him (I know that's not sound baseball business sense, but it's Wood). That's why sports aren't 100% business. I guarantee you, Hendry and co. are having the same discussions right now about him. I'd really, really hate to see him go, but I'd be afraid if he became a massive liability due to injury and was getting nearly 10 mil a year, he would start to be seen in a more negative light. And I wouldn't want that either.

That said, you're probably right about the history closing overvaluing him and at that point, I'd lose interest. I wouldn't trade Castillo straight up for Gregg. Even tho I think Gregg has a decent enough arm for middle relief (he seemed to pitch better at home .v. on the road in his career..... 3.78 at home/4.22 on the road) I agree that Castillo is too much to give up for a middle reliever. Atkins plus C+ prospect would be about right for Gregg. Even then you might be overpayng slightly. The idea is that Gregg would take the place of Wood if we don't resign him (and that's the way it's looking right now). He'd be a late inning, high leverage guy - not a middle relief guy. I'd be much more open to simply signing Juan Cruz or Brian Fuentes, but he might be an option.

That said, you're probably right about the history closing overvaluing him and at that point, I'd lose interest. I wouldn't trade Castillo straight up for Gregg. You think Castillo has that much value? I could be wrong and will check on it, but I thought he pretty much had his best season ever this year. I'm not sure if he can keep it up, but if there's reason to believe he can't, it'd be selling high (somewhat). I could be way, way off on his value, though.
  14. Ridiculous. Dempster will almost certainly regress from his 2008 numbers, but to declare he'll be another Marquis is a pretty bold and, frankly, absurd statement. It's not like his 2008 was stretched out due to fluke or luck wih him being saved by the defense and such...he kept his walks and home runs way down. His overall numbers over the season are, by and large, excellent. Marquis never had a season like this. The gulf between what you can expect from Marquis and what Dempster did in 2008 is huge. i will gladly eat crow or what have you, but i don't think that will be happening Not sure I can find a link to the quotes, but I recall Dempster talking before the year about how much he learned about approach and locating pitches from Greg Maddux. It's interesting that he talked about that and then had his best year ever - without a ton of luck helping him through it.

  16. This week will show a little bit more about how good the Titans are. The schedule has been fairly weak so far this year, leaving many people (myself included to a degree) to doubt the validity of the Titans. Well, the Colts may be down some this year, but they still have Peyton, Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne - and they may get Bob Sanders back this week (a Colt fan want to confirm/deny this, perhaps?). It'll be a tough game, but as long as the Titans can keep the big plays to a minimum, we should be able to win. And the Titans just can't pass Philly and the Giants in DVOA. Tennessee's still the best team in the AFC according to it, but the margin has lessened as the Steelers draw nearer. And Monday Night Football for the Titans!! Should be a good week!
  17. I didn't need Jim Hendry to tell me that Can't hurt, though.
  18. If we could pull off a Ceda/arm for Hermida deal, I would consider the offseason a complete success if we only brought back Wood and Dempster otherwise. There's a good chance, though, that Hermida's cheap production would keep us in the running (if we ever were) for a fairly high profile pitching/shortstop addition. What about a Ceda, Wellington Castillo, Fontenot/Cedeno and a prospect for Hermida and Kevin Gregg. I wouldn't include Fontenot. If they wanted that deal with Cedeno, fine, but Gregg's not valuable enough to give Fontenot up. Otherwise, that's a good deal, I think. It gives us a great bat in right field, moves Fukudome to center and gives us a consistently good (110, 122, 122 ERA+ the past three years) seventh inning guy.
  19. Is it an understatement to call the Bronco defense suspect?
  20. Mike Singletary is now an NFL head coach. =D> It's about dadgum time. I've thought he should be hired for the past two seasons. Very, very deserving - hope he impresses and gets a job with somebody decent next year.
  21. About time. Who's next? Or rather, who's left? Maybe we should start a NFL coaches pool. I'd say maybe Herm Edwards? Although I have to think Rod Marinelli will be first. Marinelli will definitely go before Edwards, I have to think. The Chiefs are in full-on rebuilding mode and understood before the year they'd be terrible. I think Herm has through next year to show some significant progress or he's gone. I'm actually a little surprised Nolan got the boot now. I figured he'd go, but thought it'd be after the season. Don't sleep on Tom Cable in the firing pool. He's still fairly new, but Al Davis doesn't have much patience.
  22. Bravo, my friend, bravo. =D> For those unsure of the reference, Ron Cherry is possibly my favorite referee. Ahem? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eslz06J9hFw&feature=related Good sir, I can safely say I've never seen that, but it may be one of the funniest things I've seen. My link was funny, but yours is quite a bit better.

  24. They might be interested in Pie but they do have Maybin. if they think that pie will turn into a legit CF, i think they would like to have him. maybin's bat should play at a corner, eventually, right? Ceda/Pie/Marshall for Hermida/Maybin? =P~ Ok, I'm done.
